CASE STUDY 1
1. Identify the key players in the case and describe their respective roles. Are these
the right roles? What roles in particular should be modified? How might such role
modifications be accomplished?
There are two main types of players in this case study.
Internal players who are working in at the MSCC included Wallingford; the president,
Ed Wilson; the vice president of Public Affairs and Operations, Leon Lassiter; the
vice president of Marketing and Membership, and Simon Kovecki; the systems
analyst officer.
The president Wallingford was in charge of managing the whole corporation and
have responsibility to find approach in order to improve declining revenue.
Ed Wilson, the vice president of Public Affairs and Operations, are responsible
for managing the operations division and operative expenditure.
Leon Lassiter, was hired as vice president of Marketing and Membership, worked
hardly on improving sales and marketing process.
Simon Kovecki, a young computer science graduate with no experience in
membership organization, joined the company, had struggled to understand the
software.
In my opinion, there are some inappropriate roles in structuring positions in
company. And there are also some conflicts among members in board that lead to
the failure of applying new information technology system.
Leon Lassiter, who had experience in sales and marketing management, should
not appropriate to be in charge of designing operative system.
External players are Unitrak experts who have responsibilities to support training all
members of MSCC in getting acquainted with applying the new information
technology system in company.
2. Focus on the role of the software vendor-Unitrak Software Corporation. Was it an
appropriated role? Did Unitrak act responsibly?
Unitrak Software Corporation did support their customer well in installing and training
new system. They acted responsibly because they provided all possible supports to
help the company when they settled their new system in.
