Prep: Hide index cards with numbers appropriate for
grade level around the room (Fourth grade goes through the hundred thousands). These will be your Pokemon.
Engage: Play the beginning of the Pokemon theme song.
Address your Trainers (S) and let them know that rare Pokemon have been released inside your classroom it is their quest to CATCH THEM ALL.
Core: Students can only capture Pokemon with a skilled
throw of their Pokeball. Pokemon will only be captured if
they can successfully, write the number in all forms, word, standard, and expanded (tell students that the three forms are the three evolutions of the Pokemon). Students can gain experience points (XP) by rounding their Pokemon to the highest place value. Students can compare their Pokemon to other Pokemon in the room by using inequality signs. This will let students know how strong their Pokemon will be in battle. Students want to CATCH THEM ALL and the student with the most successfully
caught Pokemon will be THE VERY BEST. Facilitate and
assess students while they are working around the room. Bring students back to their Pokestops (Desks) and have them discuss their finds to determine the best Pokemon trainer.
