ABOUT URBANO
Urbano software is advanced software for pipe network design (sewage, water supply, gas and
other pipe infrastructure), with additional functions for hydraulic calculations, surveying information,
digital terrain model, GIS (various import and export data functions) and underlays (raster and
vector underlays).
All program commands and functions were placed in Urbano Workspace Panel, which makes the
program transparent and easy to learn and work with. The commands were sorted according to
groups and subgroups.
The program was divided into several modules. All modules with valid license will be available on
the Workspace. In order for the program to work properly, the license code should cover mandatory
modules. Other modules are arbitrary, and can be customized according to user's needs.

URBANO WORKSPACE
Urbano Workspace Panel - WS contains all Urbano commands, organized into groups and
subgroups. You can start the commnad either using mouse double click (DC), either mouse rightclick (RC). Except commands, Urbano can contain configurations as well. You can create arbitrary
number of configurations with various properties, change it whenever you like, save it and use it in
another drawings.
When you start AutoCAD profile with Urbano, Workspace will appear automatically. It is modeless,
which means that it will be active all the time. You can turn it off the same way as all windows by
X button. When you want to start WS again, just type WS in the ACAD command line.

Active urbano modules

When you select certain module, the list of functions inside of the workspace will be changed. If
you want to use the function from the certain module, the functions that belong to the other
modules will be temporary unavailable, until you select the module that contains them.

All available Urbano modules:

System manager basic module that conatins all the funcions for graphic part of the pipe
design layout design, labels, previews, styles, longitudinal sections, cross sections,
manholes schemes, excavations. This module is the most important one in this module
you have to create complete system geometry, and you can do in many ways. In order to
use this module, you have to create system of any type.

Terraform module for handling digital terrain model DTM. You can create up to 10
DTM surfaces.

Canalis this module contains functions for definition of catchment areas, various
coefficients, calculation of flow values inside of the sewage system, hydraulic calculation of
the system, export and import functions that allow comunication with SWMM software, and
calculation of pipe statics. In order to use this module, first you have to create system of the
Sewage type.
Hydra - this module contains functions for definition of water distribution network node
types (tank, reservoir, emitter, pump, valve....), water demands, definition of cuves and
patterns that are neccessary in water network design, hydraulic calculation and
import/export function for the communication with EPANET design software. In order to use
this module, first you have to create system of the Water type previously.

Drawing/Raster manager this module enables work with various types of underlays
raster images (JPEG, TIFF) and vector underlays (DWG, PDF, DGN). It is possible to
handle huge amount of those files at once, turn it on and off whenever you want, and the
most important thing is with handling vecotr underlays it is possible to exclude/include
various elements according to certain rules, that can be customized (exclude or include
some layers, colors, element types..). You can manage the files by simply select them and
drag&drop them to the Workspace (when module Drawing manager is active), you can
create folder structure, or create import the files using database structure.

Geodesy this module contains functions for creating surveying underlays. It contains
geodetic symbols, lines, objects and other useful tools. It also contains functions for
creating cross sections of an alignment. The program will recognize pipe network topology
as well, so it is possible to create infrastructure cross sections. In order to use this module,
you have to create system of the Geodesy type previously.

If you don't see all those modules, it is possible that the license is not valid, or is missing. If
there is no modules at all, than the problem has occured something is wrong with the
license. Maybe the license has expired, or is not valid. It can happen that some other
program (i.e. antivirus program) interfers with the license. Please contact tehnical support.

This command opens the where you can change the blocks of the nodes, regarding node system
and type:

You can create your own blocks as well, and choose it here. If you want to be able to choose your
own blocks, you have to save it as block in the Urbano installation folder, in the folder nodes.
Usually the location refers to this path:
C:\Program Files\Studio ARS\Urbano 8\ENG\2013\nodes
or
C:\Program Files\Studio ARS\Urbano 8\ENG\2010\nodes

The name of the installation folder always refers to the installation type (2010 for ACAD 20102012, and 2013 for ACAD 2013).

URBANO TOPOLOGY

PIPE NETWORK TOPOLOGY

At the beginning, we should explain certain terms that are used in this program. Pipe nework
topology will be created automatically in the process while drawing the elements. Topology
consists of one or more systems, each system contains certain number of arrays, and each array
contains one or more branches. Each branch contains certain number of sections and nodes.
Nodes and sections are basic topology elements.
Nodes represent places where sections (pipes) change direction (horizontally or vertically), and
places where two or more pipes connect. There are two types of nodes: main and plain.
Main nodes are all nodes where more than two pipes connect, and nodes at the beginning and
end of the array (only one pipe is connected to that node).
Plain nodes are nodes where two pipes in the same branch connect. One section represents
pipes between two neighboring nodes.
Branch represents the part of the system between two neighboring main nodes.
Array represents group of one or more branches that continue one after another.
System is a group of sections (i.e. branches or arrays), which fulfill certain criteria. One drawing
can contain only one system, or several systems. One drawing can contain different systems. For
example, one system can represent sewage system, while another is water system, systems can
represent different phases in building process, or they can be divided according to some pipe
characteristic. In order to start drawing the system elements, you have to create the system first.
Subsystem refer to the elements that can be connected to the main system, such as house
connections or sink holes on the road.
System contains nodes, sections, branches and arrays. Since one branch refers to the part of the
system between two main nodes, it will be changed if you add new main node between those two
main nodes (for example, if you connect new section to one plain node in the branch, that node will
become main because it will connect more than two sections). Existing branch will be merged into
two.
You can change definition of arrays and branches manually as well. You can merge two array into
one, or split one into two. Same with branches. You can change noes definition as well main into
plain and vice versa.
There are certain circumstances when changes are not allowed as well, for example, it is not
possible to change last node's type into plain, because it has to be main according to topology
definition.

POLYGON TOPOLOGY
Polygon topology represents the system of polygonal shapes - areas. This kind of system can be
used to represent cadastral parcels or some other type of areas. Polygons consist of points and
lines, but they are always closed geometry shapes.
In order to work with polygons, you have to create new system of polygon topology type. You can
work with polygons the same way you work with network toplology elements (nodes and section) you can draw polygons using various functions, convert polygons from ACAD elements, edit, erase
and label polygons, create table views

This option allows you to select topological elements from

one node to another in the table of longitudinal section.
The same as before, all elements between these two
nodes have to be connected. This option will be available
only if longitudinal sections were drawn in the drawing.

Node (longitudinal section)

This method allows you to sellect node from the table of

longitudinal section. This option will be available only if
longitudinal sections were drawn in the drawing.

Subsystem node

Select node of the subsystem in layout.

Subsystem elements connected

to node

This method uses the selection of elements connected to

node of the subsystem, for example sink hole.

Subsystem elements connected

to section

This method uses the selection of elements connected to

section of the subsystem, for example sink hole.

Subsystem elements connected

to branch

This method uses the selection of elements connected to

branch of the subsystem, for example sink hole.

When you choose one of those selection modes, current dialog will currenty became unavailable or
will be closed. When you move cursor close to the topology elements, the elements will be
highlighted. If you click on those highlighted elements, they will be selected. You can close the
command with enter, or mouse right-click. The dialog will became available again, and you can
continue to work.

DATA PICKER SELECT DATA

In Urbano, it is possible to create arbitrary number of various configurations for labels, previews,
longitudinal sections, styles, etc. You can create your configuration and it can contain various data
available in Urbano.
When you create new configuration, you can choose various data related to certain topology
element. If you create table view (preview) of nodes, node data will be available (coordinates,
terrain elevation...). If you create table view (preview) of sections, section's data will be available
(length, pipe diameter, slope....)
To select the data you would like to input in the configuration, click on the button Data picker.
Since there is a lot of data available in Urbano, there are data goups and subgroups created
according logical order:

Selected
data
Available
data

Data groups and

subgroups

In the upper part of the dialog, there is search box. Is possible to search for certain data you need.
Type first few letters, and the program will filter the data. This way you will easily find the data.
Available data will appear on the left side of the dialog. Select the data you need and transfer it to
the right part of the dialog using arrow button (>) or using mouse double-click.
If you selected wrong data, just send the data back to the left side, using arrow (<).
If you like, you add whole data group or sub-group. Select it and tranfer it to the right side.
When you finish with data selection, click ok and the data will be available in the configuration. You
will return to the previous dialog, where you can adjust some other things about this data (order,
text height, color,... ), which depend on the configuration type. When you are done, you will be able
to use it. You can store t it in Disk repository as well, and use in other drawings.

URBANO TOPOLOGY SYSTEM

System represents a logical group of network or polygon elements. Network system consists of
arrays, branches, sections and nodes, while polygon system consists of polygons, sections and
nodes.
You can divide one system into to smaller systems, or join two systems into bigger one. It is
possible to transfer all elements or only few elements from one system to another, even to the
another type of the system (i.e. from the system type sewage to system type water).
Each system will get his own definition inside of the Workspace, but the structure will always be the
same.
The same way you can store configurations to your disk repository, it is possible to create system
template according to the system you made. This template will be saved in your disk repository,
and you will be able to use it in anoter drawings too.

You can find this button on the top of the Workspace. When you click on it, falling list with
following commands will appear:
It is possible to create new system, new
system of specific type, or new system based
on predefined sytem template.
Check chapter System for detailed description.
Other available commands were described in
chapter New other commands.

New system
System represent the most important entity inside of one drawing.
All other entities (array, branch, node, section, polygon) belong to a system.
First you have to create the system, than you can draw elements and use all other commands for
system management.
It is possible to create arbitrary number of systems, but only one system can be set as current. You
can work only with the elements of the current system. The program will recognize only those
elements that belong to the current system.

It is possible to manage interaction between

two systems inside of the drawing, using
specific functions.
You can find more about those functions in the

Series6 topology conversion

It is possible to create Series6 topology to Urbano 8. Click on the button New

option Series6 topology conversion from the drop-down list.

and select

You can either open existing Series6 drawing in Urbano 8 and work in it, or open a new drawing by
select option "External drawing" and external drawing file. All topology elements with its data and
catchment area definition will be converted. Existing longitudinal sections won't be converted,
because there were significant changes made regarding this function. Longitudinal sections should
be recreated inside Urbano 8.

Conversion options:

Conversion of AutoCAD elements

Basic topology elements are nodes and sections, and in the drawing are represented with
AutoCAD blocks (nodes) and lines (sections). The difference between common AutoCAD block
and node, same as between AutoCAD line and section, is in the fact that Urbano nodes and
sections contain additional data (names of neighboring nodes or sections, terrain elevations, slope,
and many other data). That is why the topology elements must be drawn using Urbano commands,
and not using plain AutoCAD commands. In cases topology elements already exist as AutoCAD
entities (lines, polylines), those elements should be converted in Urbano topology elements Node
and Section, in order to work with them in Urbano.

Draw from UZD file

UZD file contains the data that is neccessary so the program could draw longitudinal sections. This
command is not used very frequently becaulse the designers usually draw longitudinal sections
after they draw the network in the layout. However, this function can be vers useful if some specific
situations, i.e., the data has been collected in site.
Example for UZD file structure:
# ARRAY_1
0 000.00 337.43 1
0 050.00 337.18 2
0 100.00 336.91 3
0 150.00 336.60 0
0 200.00 336.39 0
0 250.00 336.13 4
#ARRAY_2
0 000.00 338.68 R1
0 050.00 337.73 R2
0 100.00 337.42 R3
0 150.00 337.50 R4
0 174.40 336.91 3

Every terrain line (array) must have unique name. Sign #

marks array name (terrain line), and sign * marks the
comment that should be set above array name. One file
can contain multiple arrays.
First column of the table represents station in kilometers,
second column represent station in meters, the third
column shows the terrain elevation and the fourth column
shows the name of the node. If the name of the node is
"0" the program reads that point as additional point, and
reads only terrain height at that station.

COMMANDS OF THE ACTIVE SYSTEM

DRAW
This command group contains commands for drawing topology entities in the current
system of the drawing.
Note!
All Urbano topology elements drawn inside of the drawing can be modified or erased only with
appropriate Urbano commands. It is not possible to edit or erase them using pure AutoCAD
commands, because topology elements contain additional information stored in internal Urbano
database. In case you delete or change Urbano elements by AutoCAD command, use Reindex
button

.The elements will be redrawn.

Draw network system

Draw Draw network system. Modeless Draw dialog will
open, which means that it can remain open while you use
other commands.
This dialog offers a lot of options. Use scroll-bar to check all
the options. The dialog is divided into several parts.
Since this dialog is very important part of Urbano and it can
make your work easier in many ways, all dialog options will
be explained below:

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

Dialog Parameters:
You can select equipment type (node, overflow,
pump...) from the drop-down list.
Equipment type depends of the system type, so
available types are not the same for sewage and
water systems.
Sewage - node, overflow, pump, connection point,
sink-hole and syphon
Water supply - node, reservoir, tank, emitter, pump,
connection point and different types of valves.
To change the block for particular node type, use command Topology configuration editor
Note!
There are two types of nodes in topology main nodes and plain nodes. The program will
automatically set main and plain nodes. Nodes where only one section comes in, and nodes where
more than two sections come in will be set as main node, while node that connects only two
sections of the same branch will be set as plain node.

Draw direction specifies the basic orientation of

the sections. In case of free flow systems the real
flow direction will be set according to level line
elevations.
Elements to be drawn select the method to create
nodes and section, just nodes or just sections,
depending on option selected can be drawn.
You can determine position of nodes and sections
using all AutoCAD options for drawing lines and
points enter absolute or relative coordinates,
specify the direction, enter length
The easiest way is to set the cursor in the right place in the drawing, and set the posituon with
mouse left click. To build up system geometry, Urbano offers intelligent auto connection method
that makes it simple and reduces errors.
Auto connect option has to be set according to the desired input of geometry element. Usually
during a basic system creation that option is set to node.
Buffer distance is the value which used for automatically detection of possible connection element
inside of the topology and works basically similar to known AutoCAD object snaps but just for
nodes and sections.
Section geometry can be set to line or arc. In case of arc segment the arc midpoint has to be set
in addition to start and endpoint of the section.
Rotate node if this option was turned on, the symbol blocks of the nodes will be adjusted
automatically to the section alignments.
Minimum section length specifies the lowest value for a section.
Using option "main only" under
node type it is possible to insert main node in any position in the system.
If the option
Constant section length is specified by a value, the program will only draw sections of certain
length (length is entered in the field on the right). When this option is turned on, the positions of the

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

nodes can be entered only by clicking with the left mouse button inside of the drawing. After
activating button Auto zoom-pan and selecting the zoom factor (in the field next to it), the program
automatically zooms on the last drawn node and the area around it. When you draw a new node,
the program will automatically zoom on it. The size of the area around the node that is shown
depends on the zoom factor larger zoom factor larger area (and smaller drawing elements).
Draw subsystem must be activated if a subnetwork, connected to the main network should be
drawn. Such networks usually represent inlets or home connections. Subsystems are possible to
connect to sections without having a node defined. It depends on the option, set for auto
connection on which topology element a subsystem will be connected.

Each topology element gets his unique name

in the defined network. The names are set
automatically by the program but can be
manually changed for individual settings.
Usually a system will be created with
automatically and preset names and modified
later on with commands of menu group edit
to adapt the system according to required
specifications. Each name of an element is unique in the system and cannot multiple exist.
Labels represent individual system values
and can be placed for sections and nodes
immediately during network creation. The
available label styles have to be created
previously in command group labels.
Pipes are the basic element inside of pipe
network. If a pipe group will be selected and
the appropriate pipe shape with diameter is
selected here, the following section will immediately gets this element defined during creation of
the system geometry.
A style can be defined to manage the system
geometry in a desired layout. Therefore styles
have to be defined previously inside of
command group styles. Styles for section can
be set to output a section scaled by its diameter for example. In that case, if a pipe diameter is set
to the section, the section will be shown as a full wide line or just by its contours depending of the
diameter. Like this example, various other configurations can be done, also for nodes.
When drawing of network system it is
possible to define manholes which will be
assigned to nodes of the system. Parameters
which define the installation and positioning of
manholes can be defined too.

The most important system data, i.e. to

generate longitudinal sections, is the node
elevation by terrain. There are two ways, to
immediately define that value. If a DTM is
defined inside of the drawing or additional
points are already created, they can be used
to define it during network design.

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

Note:
There are different DTM types supported, such as ordinary 3D faces, Urbano 8 Terraform DTM
and Civil 3D DTM. To define a 3D faces, Terraform DTM or additional points please refer to the
related chapters in the documentation.

Another new option in the Drawing toolbar is

drawing level line simultaneously with system
elements. Level line can be set on constant
depth below terrain, position of level line on
the pipe cross section can be also defined.
The system elements can be drawn using the button Draw from the lower left part of the dialogue.
To finish the network design, the Enter command has to be executed (or mouse right-click).
After finishing the work with this command, the dialogue stays open. The Draw button is always
active in the dialogue. That button starts the "Draw system" command again.

Draw elevation points

Elevation points are useful if just partial survey information are
available. Such points can be taken from existing drawing
information i.e. raster. Elevation points represent the terrain
elevation on each defined position.
There are several ways to define them in the drawing. The
command Draw elevation points offer them inside of the
selection list in the upper part of dialogue. Each point can
belong to a different terrain line for Urbano 8. The terrain
number, on which the points should be connected, has to be select additionally. Usually the terrain
number 1 represents the existing ground information. The height value on selected drawing
position for each elevation point can be calculated also directly from a DTM if it exists in the
drawing. Therefore the DTM information from 3Dfaces, Urbano 8 Terraform and Civil 3D DTM are
supported.

Interactive

points will be placed on the selected drawing position, if no DTM is

available, a dialogue to input the single point elevation will be
shown. In case of any defined surface, which is selected for use,
the elevation for the point will be calculated automatically.

From 3D Point Elements

Another way for selecting measured points is using 3D elements.

That is the case, when, for example, you have AutoCAD element
POINT on some X, Y, Z coordinates. When you select "From 3D
point elements" option, and select some 3D point, the program
reads the Z coordinate and takes it as the elevation of that
measured point. To simplify the selection it is possible to select the
layer on which the certain 3D elements are placed on.

From block attributes

Measured points can be shown as block with attributes. In that

case, the graphic of the block represent the type of the measured
point, and one of the attributes contains the terrain elevation data.
After activating option "From block attributes" the block and
attribute that represent the terrain elevation have to be selected
from drop down lists. Block can be also selected from the drawing
using button "Block ".

From text

Measured points can be represented only with text, and in that

case, the start point of text (the point where the text was inputted)
represents the position of the point. If the distance between text
and point is constant, it is possible to use the last option, "From
text".

If there are elements in the drawing that contains terrain elevations (3D points, blocks with
attributes, text), and that elements are used for creating elevation points, it is not necessary to
select points one by one, but it is possible to use AutoCAD option Crossing window (selecting
window from right to left) to select all elements at once.

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

Draw additional points

Additional points are points positioned on sections of the system, and their terrain elevations are
known. Additional points are used for calculating terrain elevations in nodes and for creating more
realistic terrain line in longitudinal sections.

Interpolation/Extrapolation

Additional points will be calculated on the intersection point on the

section with previously selected start- and endpoint for the linear
interpolation. If no DTM is defined the elevations for start- and

dialogue. In case a DTM or 3Dface is defined, the elevations for
start and endpoint are calculated automatically on its positions.

Projection

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

The additional point along the section will be projected individually

or by a buffer zone. To use this option elevation points have to be
defined previously. If a DTM or 3Dface are specified it is only
possible to project the selected point onto the section itself.

Additional points are used in longitudinal section to create a more detailed terrain line, not only by
elevation information inside of network nodes.
AddPoint1

AddPoint2

Draw intersection points

In the infrastructure network design process, it is very important to consider existing
infrastructure. It is obvious that elements of two different systems cannot be on the same depth in
the intersection point, but one element has to be placed on the higher depth. This is very important
in case of intersections of sewage and water supply systems. Pipes of sewer system should
always be on highder depth regarding water system pipes.
This command makes it possible to obtain the position of existing elements on the trace of
the new system, and use that data to correct the level line elevations.
The program will look for the intersections between two different system or between pipes
of the same system (if those pipes don't have common node schaft).

Program can search for intersections with other systems and for intersection of between
two arrays of the same system if they pass thru the same point and that point is not their common
node.
The result will be an intersection point on each system intersection which will be automatically
recognized inside of the longitudinal section by elevation and pipe shape.

choose that label inside of this dialog.

No matter which system was set as current, when you tend to draw intersections you have to set
the following:
Which system you would like to intersect
Which system, topological group (array, branch, section) or ACAD element intersects
chosen system.
Except that you can draw intersection points, it is possible to check the analysis of intersections as
well. Iti s available on the command Intersection Analysis.

Draw sink holes

Sink holes are pipes that collect rainwater from the road in the main collector. In Urbano, sink holes
are part of the subsystem. Iti s possible to draw it automatically or interactively. According to the
drawing method, various parameters should be set.
Pipe options

Terrain elevation

Sink hole name

Automatic drawing

Interactive drawing

When you choose drawing option, related commands will be available in the dialog:

Pipe group and pipe diameter

Position of the level line on the pipe
Terrain heights - DTM, from nodes or interactivelly
Slope of the level line in the connection node
Depth of the sink hole
Labels for the nodes and sections of the sink holes

When you set all parameters, click Draw. If you chose automatic drawing, the program will draw it
automatically, all at once.
If you chose interactive drawing, place the cursor close to the node or section (depending on where
you want to connect the sink hole).
If you place the cursor close to the node, the program will show you yellow circle around the node.
Click inside of the yellow circle (you don't have to pick right in the center) and the sink hole will be
connected to the node.
If you place the cursor close to rhe section, the program will show you yellow buffer zone around
the section. Click isnide of the yellow zone to choose wanted section. Afther that,
you will be able to slide along that section. Select the point of the section by click. In that place
there will be new subsystem node place where sink hole was connected with the section.

longitudinal section if you start function System Anlysis. This
function allows you to check your system according certain functional
parameters. If some of the parameters don't satisfy the conditions that you
set, the program will set warnings in longitudinal sections.

For each value inside of the dialogue it is possible to make a direct input or to select it from the
drawing with appropriate button.
Note:
These elements are related to longitudinal sections, and for some of them it is possible to see the
data in the longitudinal section table. For example: it is possible to draw vertical lines, show their
terrain heights, invert elevations, stations and many other data. More about those elements in the
chapter Longitudinal sections.

EDITING
In the process of drawing the system, the program saves all data that is necessary for its work in
the definition of system elements.
Group of commands Editing contains various
commands for editing topology elements and other
Urbano entities in layout and in longitudinal section,
commands for drawing and editing level line in
longitudinal section and commands for label editing
in the layout.
You can use those commands for editing elements
of the current system.
Iti s not reccomended to use AutoCAD commands
for editing elements, because it can cause erorrs.

Edit nodes
Nodes are basic and the most important topology element. Node's definition, same as the section's
definition, has certain data written in it. That data is important for the program to work properly.
That data cannot be changed with AutoCAD commands and that is why it is not allowed to use
AutoCAD commands like "Erase", "Move", "Copy" for editing nodes. You can edit nodes only using
the command "Edit nodes".
Available node editing modes

Edit modes:
Rename

Using option "rename" it is possible to change name to one node

or more nodes at the same time. The selection set can be applied
with a filter in addition regarding node type and equipment type.

Rename interactive

Renaming single nodes or node to node by general options like

prefix, suffix counter and step.

Rename automatic

like prefix, suffix counter and step and by adding counter from the
first node of the array.

Node type

Changes the type of node, equipment and block definition for

nodes inside of the previously made selection set.

Erase

Remove selected nodes inside of the selection set from the current
system in the drawing. To delete nodes some basic topology
issues are relevant and it is not possible to erase nodes if they are
connected to a section.

Move

This option is used to change the position of any node. If a node is

connected to a section(s) also the position of those section will be
changed in addition. With additional options it is possible to
reposition the node among section in case the section length
should be adapted to desired values.

Insert node

A new node can be placed onto an existing section with this option.
New node is inserted on the existing section and divide that section
into two sections. The new node, and the node in which the section
ended before, is connected with a new section. Based on the
existing data, the program calculates terrain line and level line
elevations in the new node.

Rotate node

Nodes are possible to align according to the sections. It is possible

to rotate the node according to the incoming and outgoing section.

Changing node type is an important part of the node editing command. Depending on the system
type of the drawn element, main node can have different meanings. When the system type of the
selected element is 0-Sewage main node can be "Node", "Overflow" or "Divide", and if the system
type is 1-Water the main node can be "Node", "Reservoir", "Pump", etc.

Edit sections
Beside nodes, sections are the most important element of the system topology. The data that is
used as a base for creating topology is written in the definition of a section. The data written in a
section definition are names of the neighboring sections, starting and ending node, belonging to the
branch, array and system, and so on. All this data are written automatically in the process of
drawing the sections. Editing sections with AutoCAD commands "Erase", "Move" and "Copy" is not
recommended, because this command does not affect the data written in sections, and their usage
can cause topology errors.

Edit invert position

Using this function it is possible to change invert position on
the pipe.
The program will show current value of invert for selected
elements. To change it, select new invert position from the
drop-down list.

Move node in longitudinal section

This function enables you to move node directly in the
longitudinal section. It is possible to move node only
between two nodes next to it. This function is very useful
when you have to move the node in order to edit invert
position, because it is not neccesary for you to check
nodes in layout.
The node that you moved in longitudinal section will be
moved in layout as well because of the Urbano dynamic
model.
Quick move you can select longitudinal section and
move node in it.
Move you can select longitudinal section interactively or
from the drop-down list. You can select the node the same way.
It is possible to determine invert elevation as well.
Terrain height of the node in the new possition:
-

if there is DTM, program will automatically determine terrain height from the DTM
if there is no DTM, program will determine terrain height using terrain elevations of the
neighbour nodes

Invert elevation will be determined according to previously defined invert elevation at that point.

Insert node in longitudinal section

Using this function, you can insert node between two
existing nodes directly in longitudinal section. This function
is very useful while determining pipeline invert if there is a
need to insert the node, you don't have to do it in layout.
The node that you inserted in longitudinal section will
appear in layout as well because of the Urbano dynamic
model.
Terrain height and pipe invert of the new node will be
determined using terrain height and pipe invert on that very
spot.

INPUT DATA
This group of commands allows you to assign basic data of
the system elements, like terrain elevations, level line
elevations, slopes and pipe diameters. You can assign
some of the data while drawing elements as well (dialog
Draw) terrain elevations from the DTM, level line
elevation on constant depth under the terrain, pipes and
manholes.

Terrain height
This command is used to input terrain elevation of the system elements. You can enter terrain
elevations using several options: single, using method of linear interpolation, using additional
points, using DTM, using slopes or elevation points.
In Urbano it is possible to assign terrain heights up to 10 terrains existing terrain elevations,
designed terrain elevations for solution 1, 2, 3... Because of that it is very important to select
terrain number that the heights will belong to.
Terrain number refers to the Longitudinal section as well it is very important which terrain is
referent.

You can use DTM or 3DFace created by TerraForm, or DTM

created by Civil3D. If Urbano was installed on the plain AutoCAD,
you can use only DTM or 3DFace created by TerraForm.

Additional Points

You can use this option if there are additional points in the drawing.
You can create additional points using command Draw Draw
Additional points.
Terrain elevations in nodes will be calculated by the the linear
interpolation method from the elevation of additional points.
If "Use existing node elevation" option is active, the nodes that
already have terrain elevations will keep their values, and new
values will be calculated only for the nodes that previously didnt
have terrain elevations.
If that option isn't active, all nodes will get new values.

By Slope

It is possible to set terrain elevation only for the first node of the
selection, and set the slope toward the ending node to calculate all
terrain elevations for the nodes between.

Elevation points

It is possible to set terrain elevation according previously drawn

elevation points (command Draw Draw elevation points), and you
can do it interactively or using buffer zone.

From slopes

This option of inputting the level line elevations defines

level line elevation in starting node of the selected work
area, and set the slope toward the ending node to
calculate all elevations for the nodes between.

Constant depth below terrain

With this method a common level line elevation (depth) will

be set for all nodes inside of the selection set according
the selected terrain number. Usually this option is mostly
used for water distribution systems.

Position on level line

The reference point for the level line will be only set by this
option. The reference point is used also to align the pipes.

Pipes
Pipe diameters are very important for hydraulics calculations. Pipe diameters can be entered for all
sections of the selected area at once or single for every section. Pipes are different in type of
shape and geometry parameters. Therefore the pipe catalogue is used in Urbano 8 to predefine
them. Pipe data are used in network layout and longitudinal section to create additional graphic
information and in hydraulic parts of Urbano 8.
There are 6 typical pipe shapes available. More detailed explanation can be found under the

Trench data
For the excavation calculations, it is necessary to define the shape and the dimensions of the ditch.
Generally, the program recognizes two shapes of the ditch, single ditch and double ditch, which
mean ditch without or with the widening. In addition it is possible to define both types with a
framework. According to the bed type, ditches can be divided on ditches with sand bed, ditches
with concrete bed and ditches that have natural structure as bed. The definition of trenches is
made in trench catalogue.

If the profile has magenta frame, it means that is inactive and invalid some data is missing, for
example some node or section from this LS doesn't exist in the drawing anymore:

This happens because the relationship between nodes and sections in that sequence has been
changed.

Note:
LS will not become invalid if you move the node, but the relationship of nodes and sections
is not changed (same sections have the same starting and ending nodes).
However, this change will be visible in the longitudinal section and this is very important
characteristic of Urbano softvare dynamic between changes in Layout and Longitudinal
section tables.
If you draw a lot longitudinal sections at once, expand the LS manager dialog using this button
and adjust the order of LS tables:

Cross sections manager

Cross section manager is very similar as Longitudinal section manager.
It is possible to draw many cross section in the drawing and therefore the cross section manager is
useful to handle them in various ways. The dialogue consists of two parts left part for editing
cross sections and right part for adjust order and spacing of cross sections and it is hidden by
default. You can expand it using button

All existing cross sections inside of the drawing are shown in the left part of the dialog. It is possible
to select, move an delete all available cross sections. It is not reccomended to use CAD commands
for editing.

NOTE:
To define cross sections, use command Cross sections in the Workspace and see the chapter
Cross sections.
Also, you have to set terrain height, pipe invert, pipe diameter and trench data of the
topology elements so the program would have enough information to create cross section.

Manhole schemes manager

Mahole schemes manager is very similar as Longitudinal section manager and Cross section
manager.
It is possible to draw many schemes from manholes in the drawing and therefore the schemes
manager is useful to handle them in various ways.
The dialogue consists of two parts left part for editing manhole schemes and right part for adjust
order and spacing of manhole schemes and it is hidden by default. You can expand it using button
.

All existing manhole schemes inside of the drawing are shown in the left window with their current
status. It is possible to rename, delete and move the selected views. It is not reccomended to use
CAD commands for editing.

NOTE:
To define manhole schemes, use command Manhole schemes in the Workspace and see the
chapter Manholes schemes.

Cache manager
In all commands where data from database is accessed in some way, the data is not read directly
from the database, but the data is previously copied to cache and read from there. That speeds up
the process because the data is not every time read from the database, but from the cache.
After making certain changes in the database, it is necessary to refresh the data in the cache. That
is done in the dialogue of the "Cache manager" command. In that dialogue, it is also possible to
define the size of the cache.
The size of the cache can be changed by entering new value in the "Cache size (DB rows)" field.
This change applies only to current drawing.

TOOLS
This group of commands contains various additional functions for handling system elements.

Fast Import of SHP / Mapinfo files

Usually GIS and CAD-based programs can provide geometric information inside of standard
exchange file formats like ESRI-SHP or MAPINFO-TAB. Both formats are supported for fast import
inside of Urbano 8 drawing. With the fast import only the geometry information will be taken, all
other attribute values will be skipped. To make a complete import of all information from such data
sources it is recommended to use the IMPORT CONFIGURATION functionality from Urbano
workspace, with the import type SHP.
The complete content of SHP or TAB file will be drawn as ordinary AutoCAD elements on specified
layers with defined properties. The output is always done into 2D.

Sink hole export (text file)

Reset data
This command enables reset of all kinds of data:
To reset the data, choose data type
(Geomety, Manholes, Sewage data.. ) and
expand it. Mark the data you want to reset,
and choose the topology elements for which
you want to reset the data.
Click on Reset data.
If you want to reset some specific data more
often, you can create reset data configuration.
Click on the button Save configuration
.
The configuration that you have created will
be saved and you will be able to use it again
later.
You can find some specific data by typing its
name in the Find data box, on the top of the
dialog.

Export data to TXT file

This command enables fast export of the selected topology elements to TXT file. The values to be
exported are following:
Select topology elements (arrays, branches,
whole system , set file name and click
Export.

Draw trench border

This command enables drawing of the trench border of the channel. Of course, this can be done
only if there was DTM surface related to the topology elements. It can be drawn as 2D or 3D
polyline.
It is possible to draw as many trench borders as you
need, so you can see changes of the trench width in the
layout regarding changes of depth of the pipes:

If you draw trench border as 3D polyline, it is possible to see it in isometric view as well, along with
the DTM triangles:

Linear data preview

Linear data refers to the data that is not related specifically to nodes or sections, but to the stations
you can set linear data from one station of the topology selection to the other. For example,
protector pipes are linear data, because you can set protector pipes from one station to another.
Intersection of pipe network system with polygon system is considered as linear data as well,
because one pipe can intersect two or more polygons along its length.
More about it in the chapter Protector and Polygon intersection.
Choose which linear data you would like to check, and then choose topology. Starting and ending
station of the protector pipe will be available, as well as length and value of the data.
It is possible to export the data in Excel table or paste it in the drawing.

System analysis
This function analizes the system according some other parameters than topology issues it
checks functionality of the systems according to available parameters.
The user can check the system according to certain value or condition. The system topology can
be correct, but still there can be certain problems. For example, there can be places in the system
where pipe depth was lower than minimum, or where downstream pipe diameter was smaller than
the upstream.

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

This dialog contains several checking options. Select the option on the left side of the dialog. In the
middle of the dialog you can set the values boundary conditions. The picture that shows the point
of this option will appear on the right side of the dialog.

- Toplogy picker
- erase the warnings in longitudinal sections
- zoom to the section in layout, zoom to the longitudinal section
- custom check (the user can define his own check according to some chosen values)
- erase existing custom check

- mark this option to see the warnings in longitudinal sections

- run system analysis

Depth below terrain

The user can change minimum and maximum depth of the pipe under the referent terrain. When
this analysis starts, it will show all pipes that don't satisfy these conditions.
Minimum calculated slope (from invert)
If the pipe invert was determined in the system, this function will check whether this invert satisfys
minimum and maximum slope conditions set in this function.
Minimum slope (user input)

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

In Urbano it is possible to input slopes for the sections even if there is no terrain and invert
information. This possibility is very useful for preliminary sewage system design. This function will
check whether this slope satisfies minimum and maximum slope conditions set in this function.
Multiple outlet sections
In sewage system there should not be multiple outlet sections because all waste flow from the
sewage network should be canalised either in the purifier or directly to the receptor.
Positive cascades
In gravitational sewage system there should not be positive cascades. The program will find the
error and report it.
Smaller diameters downstream
In sewage system the diameters donwstream should be bigger or the same as upstream. It
shouldnt be smaller.
Custom check
The user can create custom check according any available Urbano data.

Pipe length calculation

This function enables calculation of the length of the pipes, regarding the available pipes to be built
in the network. You can set variuos parameters and the program will calculate the actual number of
pipes, needed to built the designed network.
It is possible to select
topology same as in the
other
functions,
copy
calculated data and save it
to TXT file.
This calculation can help
you to calculate and control
the costs of material in the
project pipes.

Manhole data export

This command enables export of the manhole data to an external TXT file.

Longitudinal/corss section measuring

Since it is possible to create longitudinal and cross section table configuration in arbitrary
distorsional scale, it can be complicated to measure certain values in the grafical part of the table.
To simplify that procedure, you can use this command.
Pick LS table using this button
, and click first and second
point of the value you want to measure.
All the data will be available in the dialog and you can check it.
When you start the command again, the dialog will be reset and
the data of new measure will appear.

Channel projection
If there are two parallel channels of two different systems, it is possible to show both of them in the
same longitudinal section table.
For example, sometimes sewer and storm channels can be set very close to each other, on the
different slopes and depths. This function is very useful to check the differences.

Longitudinal section configuration for projection

In order to be able to create this kind of projection, the configutation of longitudinal section table
should contain the component Projection, marked with red. You can add this component the
same way as all other components click on longitudinal secion configuration (i.e. Sewage

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

Component Projected longitudinal section contains graphical part of the projected channel, and
you can set the colors of graphical representation of projected channel to be different than the
original channel:

You can add the components of the table, to show the data of the projected channel. You can
simply copy existing component, i.e. Layout data nodes (Name) using Copy button

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

Since this Layout data-node (Name) was set commponent after the component Projected
longitudinal section, you can set it as projectioncomponent choose 1.
When you do it, this component will become red as well, and it will show data of the projected
channel:

You can add arbitrary number of components and set Projection to 1 to any of them.
0 component of original channel
1 component of projected channel

Note 1:
The channel of the curently active system will be set as original - 0, and the other one (which you
project) will be set as projected 1.

Note 2:
You can save the configuration in your Disk repository the same way as other configurations. You
can take it to any active system as well. When you draw LS of a channel of the currently active
system, that channel will be original; and the other one will be projected.

Note 3:
When you project one channel to another one channel's longitudinal section, those two channels
should be about the same length.

Note 4:
If you have more than two parallel channels, you can add another component Projection, and this
one will have number 2. You can add other components after that as well, and identify it as 2.

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

Creating projection of the elements

In order to create projection of the elements, it is neccessary to draw longitudinal section of the
original channel, using longitudinal section configuration that contains Projection component.
Choose Tools Channel projection, following dialog will open:
Choose longitudinal section for projection,
projection identifier (1, 2), topology
elements for projection (array, branch, more
sections, from node to node)
You can review the projection, and when you
click Project, projected elements will be
drawn.

Layout plot setup

If the terrain of the pipe network system is very steep (big slope), it can happen that some
longitudinal section have large difference between the terrain elevations of the starting and the
ending node of the section. That kind of longitudinal section sometimes cannot be plotted on
certain paper formats. That problem can be solved by
changing the scale of the drawing, but than some
details may be visible. The other solution is to draw
several smaller longitudinal sections. That option is
not so good because in that case the excavation
calculation should be done for every longitudinal
section.
In Urbano, this problem is solved by using AutoCAD
layouts.
First you should start this command, select
longitudinal section and paper format.
You can create chosen paper frames along the whole
longitudinal section interactively or automatically.
Set the parameters and click Draw frames.

To check paper frames dimensions, check

Longitudinal section printing frames catalogue
and the predefined frames.

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

Next picture shows the example of the longitudinal section with paper frames:

When you set the frames and you are satisfied, start the next command, Draw frames to layout.

You can create frames for arbitrary numbers of longitudinal sections, with various dimensions of
frames. You can edit longitudinal sections as well all changes will be updated.

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

Draw frames to layout

When the frames were drawn (see previous chapter), this command will draw viewports of all
defined frames to AutoCAD layout.

Choose longitudinal section (interactively or from

the list, one, few, or all of them), set available
options and click Draw layout.
AutoCAD layout will open, pic anywhere and the
parts of the longitudinal section will be drawn, along
with the tabe, related data in the table, reference
height mark and vertical ruler.

When you once define viewports in layout, you can continue to work in model space - any change
you makes will be automatically updated in layouts.
After the rectangles are set, they can be edited using AutoCAD commands "Move" and "Stretch"
because they are drawn as AutoCAD's entity Rectangle.
How to plot?
Once you have created frames and layout, print those frames on the papers of the corresponding
size. Plot from Layout.

PREVIEWS

Drawings contain large amounts of different data (terrain elevations and coordinates for all nodes,
length, pipe type and diameters for all sections, and so on). Preview group of commands are used
for quick and effective reviewing of the data in the drawing.
Configuration of the preview can be created very easily. There are two subgroups available - lines
and nodes. Depending of the current topology system, lines refer either to sections (pipe network)
or polygon sides (polygon topology). Nodes refer to manholes/direction changes for network
systems and to polygon edges for polygon systems.
Each Preview configuration represents a table view thath contains various created, imported or
calculated data. This dialog consists of several parts topology selection, command buttons, list of
defined views, list of defined styles and the table that shows the data data. Size of the dialog on the
screen can be changed. You can do it by selecting the edges of the dialogue, and after the cursor
change its shape, stretch the dialogue.

LABELS
All defined and calculated data can be shown inside of the drawing. Using commands from group
Labels, it is possible to automatically label all or few selected elements with the labels that include
different data (terrain elevations, node names, level line elevations, stations, flow direction...).
To get better overview of the system and to better see text, you can move labels interactively, or
reposition it using various commands.
The dialog for labeling elements is modeless, which means that it can stay open while you work
with other dialogs.
It is possible to create various types of labels, for nodes and for sections:

Definition of labels
To be able to label elements, it is necessary to create label definitions. One label can contain one
or more element data to be shown in the label. The data available for the label types depends of
the system and topology element. There are differences in data definitions for polygons, pipe
networks and related sub-elements like nodes or sections.
In the dialog for label

Extended geometry options

Available definitions from manhole

and manhole label catalogue.
Manhole labels are used for long
section tables only.

Center of the rotation is selected from the drop down list with the same name. There are two
options "Center of node/section" and "End of leader line". Next to the name of every option is a
sketch that shows the center of rotation in specific case.

When the option "Center of node/section" is selected, two other options can be activated: "Leader
label rotation only" (only labels with leader line will be rotated) and "Leader line rotation" (only
labels with leader line will be rotated, but in the way that only leader line will be rotated, and the text
keeps its direction.
Option "End of leader line" also applies only on labels with leader. With this option, only the label
text is rotated, whole the leader keeps its position.
There are several ways to enter the angle of rotation. First, user must decide if the angles will be
entered as
button

or relative

. Default way of entering angles is relative. To change that, click on

and the button will change its appearance to

. The value of the angle can be

entered in the field or selected in the drawing after activating button

Angle can also be entered using buttons that schematically display the angle:

-45,

-135,

-225, and
-315. After activating one of these buttons, the field for entering angle value,
shows the selected value of the angle.
Which labels will be rotated depending on which option is active: "Sections", "Nodes" or
Channels.

After selecting angle and the option for rotating, button

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

must be activated to run the rotation .

The option label reposition is used for moving certain labels that overlap with other elements of
the drawing, so they must be repositioned. To move certain label, button
must be activated
first. The label that will be repositioned must be selected in the drawing. This command is analog to
the AutoCAD command Move first user must select base point, and than select the new position
of that point.

Automatic label reposition

If there are a lot of intersected labels in the drawing and it is not possible to repiosition them
properly with the standart methods, it is possible to do it automatically, with this function.
Rightclick on Labels Automatic label reposition:

There are four label types to reposition:

Stations
Sections
Nodes
Channels
All of them have their own reposition parameters maximum number of iterations,
Leader increment and rotation angle. The program rotates the labels automatically (by the set
angle) and searches the best position regarding other labels, increasing leader label for the
increment value.

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

- Polygon selection
- Entire drawing
- Show selection
- Recreate labels
- Preview label collision
- Run reposition
If you don't select otherwise, the program will perform reposition on the entire drawing, no matter

You can set the buffer zone around the label as well, to avoid the labels to stay very close to each
other.

Before reposition:

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

Calculation parameters

All parameters can be excluded from the calculation, except Offset from lateral inlet elevation
[m] and Invert offset from the previous sequence invert [m], because the programm has to
consider the invert of previous array or branch (branch starts in the node where there is lateral
inlet) to calculate invert correcttly.

You can set any value for offset.

You can set any value for minimum slope.

You can set any value for maximum slope.

You can set any value for minumum

If you select cascades, you have to set the
parameterr for minumum and maximum
cascade value.

You can set any value for offset.

If you mark this option, the program will firs try

to set invert to follow terrain slope.
If you mark this option, you have to set
minimum distance between new nodes, and
slope priority minimum or maximum slope.

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

Additional parameters

It is very important to set referent terrain, the same as in other functions for invert determination.
If you mark the option Favor cascades, the program will try to set the invert by placing cascades
wherever they can fit.
If there are existing invert data in certain pipe of the network (for example, existing old network that
has to be upgraded with new branches) you can choose to not change existing data, or to do it.
If there is no solution (it was not possible to determine invert according to parameter values), you
can choose to leave existing data, or to delete all data.

Selection
It is possible to select whole system at once, or just some topology elements. If there are more
separated channels in the same system, it is necessary to choose exit node.

Calculation
When you set all parameters, click Calculation. The program will calculate invert values, but it will
not write it yet. Click Preview to check the results. If you are not satisfyed, chance some
parameters and click Calculation again.

When Preview results seem ok, click Apply changes and pipe invert will be determined for the
selected elements.

Note:
If you created pipe invert using this function, you can edit it with all available functions for
for drawing or editing invert (level line).

Thematic mapping of sections changes the color of line that represents section.
Thematic mapping of nodes draws circle around node in appropriate color.
Thematic mapping of polygons shows a colored hatch over each polygon.
Thematic mapping can created in two ways if selected condition (data) is number (e.g. terrain
height).
Selecting option "Specific", each specific value will be colored with one color (e.g. one pipe
diameter one color).
With option "Continuous", it is necessary to define number of limits by which mapping will be done
or size of limits.
They have to be typed in appropriate fields. Beside field "Size" there is data about minimum and
maximum value of selected key.
Colors that represent each value of the key can be set in two ways.
By selecting option "Automatic" program will automatically define certain color for each value of the
data. User can define number of colors that will be used for thematic mapping. When this option is
turned off user can define specific color for each value of the key. Colors can be changed in drop
down list by selecting appropriate color. Drop down list is opened when user selects color for
certain condition in the table.
To map the elements, double-click on the configuration, following dialog will appear:

STYLES
Styles are used for nodes and sections to handle a specific layout, i.e. country specific standards or
special layout required for different system types. It is possible especially for sections to define and
apply styles in relation to various system data. With this method it is possible for example to scale
sections according to the defined diameter.
Once styles are defined, they can be used separately by its own function or in combination with
other Urbano commands, i.e. Queries.

COPY NEAREST DATA

Copy nearest data provides functionality to take over data which already existing inside of the
drawing. AutoCAD elements, which can be used to collect data, are text and block with attributes. It
is possible to select the object layers of the values you want to collect, element type, block name,
or set sufix or prefix of the text. If data mismatch by units or should be calculated according to
some factors this also can be done during definition progress.

The value for the max distance is helpful as a search criteria inside of the drawing, for example if
node elevations should be taken from various text elements.

Steps to create or modify a conversion rule:

1)
2)
3)
4)

From the context menu with right mouse button select New or Edit
Set the name, select desired data with the data picker

USER DATA
User data enables the user to define some specific data of the system elements. There are two
methods available to specify user data. Each one is available on separate tab in the dialog.

User data
User data is available inside of the data picker dialogue so you can use it in several functions. User
data can contain some predefined values as well.

Virtual data
Virtual data can be calculated using available system data. Choose system data using data picker.
Selected data will be available in the left side of the dialog. To calculate the values there is a huge
set of mathematic functions available.
You can type mathematical operation in the empty field, or you can choose function using button
Oper./function.

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

When you click OK, the data will be saved, and the configuration will be available in the
Workspace. You will be able to add those data inside of other configurations, such as Previews,
Labels, longitudinal sections or other. Those data will be stored in specifig groups:

Note:
Virtual data can be used inside other virtual data.

LONG SECTIONS
This group contains commands for drawing the tables of longitudinal sections - terrain lines, pipe
lines, invert lines, manholes, trench bottom, lateral inlets, tables with values etc. The program takes
all the necessary data from the system drawn in the layout.

Longitudinal section definition

The definition of long section tables is based on components. Components are basically predefined
table elements which have to be arranged together inside of one longitudinal section definition.
Each element can be defined by several properties to adapt the table layout to desired
requirements.

When you create new definition of the longitudinal section table, only basic component will be
created by default.
This component is also called longitudinal section basic, and contains only graphical part of
the longitudinal section.
In this component you can adjust colors of certain graphical entities (terrain lines, invert lines,
pipes, manholes...), include or exclude certain entities from the drawing (intersection pipes, lateral
inlets..),

You have to add the other components by yourself. Use following buttons:

- Data picker Add new component

This happens because the relationship between

nodes and sections in that sequence has been
changed.

EXTERNAL DATA LINKS

External data links are used to combine (link) system data from the drawing with data from external
sources. Using this method enables you to keep certain data, that you use only occasionaly, out of
the drawing..The simplest way is to define recognition data for drawing and external data source
value. The most data could be i.e. element name (node name or section name). Linked data from
external source cannot be changed by Urbano commands but it is possible to use the available
values for several commands inside of Urbano i.e. to define virtual data as a type of user data.

previews, label definitions, or set those data as a base for virtual data definition inside of user data
functions.

Refresh cache
All values from the external source will be taken not immediately if some functions are used.
Instead of this, they will be buffered inside of a cache to speed up the process of handling the data
from the external source. This cache needs to be updated sometimes, for example if some
changes are done inside of the external data source.

Fill in database cache

This command is necessary to execute after an external link definition is made to establish the
connection. The values from the external source are buffered inside of the cache. It is possible to
read all the data from the external source or just those values for elements which do exist inside of
the drawing.

URBANO 8 User Guide - Networks

Cache manager
In all commands where data from database is accessed in some way, the data is not read directly
from the database, but the data is previously copied to cache and read from there. That speeds up
the process because the data is not every time read from the database, but from the cache.
After making certain changes in the database, it is necessary to refresh the data in the cache. That
is done in the dialogue of the "Cache manager" command. In that dialogue, it is also possible to
define the size of the cache.
The size of the cache can be changed by entering new value in the "Cache size (DB rows)" field.
This change applies only to current drawing.

EXCAVATION REPORT
Excavation reports are used to output quantities for defined trenches.
The data is calculated for cross sections in all nodes, but also in additional profiles that are created
in stations where ditch depth is set to the defined excavation zones. That profiles are used for
calculating amounts for excavation more accurately depending on the depth of a ditch.
The following picture will be used to explain the values shown in the reviews.

The value of all volumes are the result of multiplication of the arithmetic mean of certain area
which is the result of the values on the starting and on the ending station, with the distance
between that stations.
For example

V=

P1 + P2
L
2

V= excavation volume
P1=cross section area in station 1
P1= cross section area in station 2
L= distance between stations 1 and 2

Cumulative area is a sum of all values from starting to the current station.

INTERSECTION ANALYSIS

Intersections (clashes) between infrastructure systems are very important part of pipe network
design. When you design pipe network system in urban areas, probably there already exist some
kind of infrastructure existing pipe network, electricity or telecommunication cables, gas pipeline
ect.
When position of the pipe is to be defined, very often designer should consider what is possible
impact on existing utilities. Beside classical clash of utilities, sometimes it is necessary to respect
rules of possible influence of utilities. In that situation it is for example necessary to place sewage
pipe beneath water pipe, gas pipe above sewage pipe and so on.
You can check those intersections in special table view. New table view is dynamic and enables
you to see all intersection of the pipes, to change clash tolerances and so on.

Configuration
To be able to see pipe intersections in the table, it is necessary to create configuration the same
way as all other configurations in Urbano.
Click on Intersection analysis New. Following dialog will appear:

In this dialog you can choose the data bot of the current and intersected system. Therefore, there
are two data pickers available. First data picker refers to Referent system data, which is always
currently active system. Second data picker refers to the Intersection system data.
Using first data picker you can select values of current system, and with the other one values of
intersection system. To be distinguished, data is emphasized by different color (green current
system, orange system which intersects current system).
When you click on data picker there is special item, Crossings between systems. In that group
there is some special data that you can select, i.e. distance between pipes, terrain elevations,

For the values of distance between pipes and terrain elevations, it is not important from which data
picker they are selected. Their values are always the same. After first data selection, order of the
data can be rearranged and renamed:

It is very important to set referent terrain and collision tolerance. If you want, you can set collision
alarm text the text that will appear in the table when pipe intersection occurs.

Table view
After you arranged the table the way you like, click OK and the configuration will be saved. To run
the configuration, double-click on it and following table will open:

All systems in the drawing will be shown in the left side of the dialog. You can select one of them,
and intersection data will be shown in the right side of the dialog.

Intersection data will always refer to current system and the one that you selected.
When you select some other system, the data in the right part of the dialog will be related to that
system.
Intersection points with collision smaller than admissible will be marked as red:

You can zoom and mark intersection points, write it as Excel file and label them with the
intersection label.

Note:
To be able to label intersection points, you have to draw them using function Draw Draw
intersection points.
However, you dont have to draw intersection points to be able to see them in this dialog.
