Significance of Community Service and

Volunteering
Volunteering for community services has its own rewards. It instils a
sense of joy and satisfaction amongst us. In gives us a break from our
everyday lives, reduces our stress levels and makes us happy which in a
way makes us healthy. It helps us contribute something towards our
community, our society for free which in a way save resources of a better
future of the masses. It also helps us gain a lot of professional experience
which helps us in career building. This experience is extremely valuable
for job application.
The motive behind community service is the reunion of the masses.
It helps us in uniting the people form diverse background to work towards
a better future of the nation. Community service gives us time to see the
world around us, talking with people of different communities also helps
us becoming more understanding and promotes secularism (in case of
people from different religious backgrounds.)Understanding community
needs helps foster empathy and self-efficacy.
Volunteering in general (not only community service) also helps in
strengthening the community where we understand other peoples pains
and trouble and works towards the improvement of the present scenario
or work out a better solution for everyone.
Volunteering also helps us learn a lot. We get to know our hidden
talents. The government gets to know about the present situation and we
also get to learn about the working of the government. We also get to
know about the resources available to our community (especially the
ones in which we live in or know about).
Volunteering for a community service also gives us a chance to give
to the society what we have got from it such as our own education. It also
encourages civic responsibilities e.g. by volunteering for the Swatch
Bharat Abhiyan we were giving our contribution by clearing our bit of
mess at first and later on for others as well. And obviously its our tiny
help that makes the greatest difference.

Uday Foundation
Founded by Mr. Rahul Verma, Uday Foundation is a non-profit
organisation based in New Delhi. It was established in 2007 by the
parents of Arjunuday who was born with congenital disorder and improper
bowel movements. The Uday Foundation works for the welfare of children
with medical needs and support and for the homeless and disaster struck
people. They constantly strive towards their motive, Health with dignity.

Some of their notable distinctions are

1. Working towards the welfare of children with medical
needs
Uday foundation runs a medical clinic where underprivileged
patients are treated free of cost. It also provides help to children with
chronic illness. They run story telling programs for children in hospitals
where the volunteers can visit and narrate a story to the sick children.

2. Filing a PIL against the distribution of Junk food in

school campuses
In 2010, Uday foundation filed a Public Interest Litigation in Delhi
High Court with the demand of a ban on sale of junk food and carbonated
drinks in or around 500 yards of school campuses.

3. Delhis first Internet De-addiction Centre

In 2014, Uday Foundation started Delhis first internet de-addiction
centre. It provides free counselling to children with Internet addiction
disorder and indulges them into real life activities.

4. Disaster relief
Uday foundation also works for disaster relief and humanitarian aid.
It provided emergency relief in the 2013 Uttarakhand floods and 2014 J&K
floods.

Uday foundation also has won a few awards and

Suggestions and Remarks

Uday Foundation has done a great job in empowering the poor,
taking care of their health and educational needs. Their private health
clinic has provided free treatment to the underprivileged. I especially liked
their effort in filing a PIL against the ban of sale of Junk Food in or around
the school campuses. This also discouraged schools which provided cold
drinks and junk food in their school campuses which affected the health
of the students adversely. They can also be appreciated for their effort in
internet de-addiction camps where children are made to interact with
others and are kept in an internet free environment. I hope that they
continue their efforts in helping the poor and constantly strive towards
their motive, Health with dignity. Wishing them all the best for the
future.
