Isso, no e11tanto, no quer dizer que a posio feminina no se
circunscreva, ao menos em parte, no campo delimitado pelo Um.
Existem igualmente razes para se atribuir mulher um certo
apego ao lin1ite
que se reconhece nas virtudes da ten1perana e da
,
sensatez. E instrutivo ler, caso tenham paci11cia, o
melodramtico romance O feijo e o sonho, de Origines Lessa.
Ali se encontra a descrio exen1plar de urna tendncia
nitidamente feminina para a conteno do Mesmo, numa direo,
portanto, absolutamente contrria a essa dimenso do desvario de
que falvamos at aqui. O termo "la bourgeoise", que designa, na
lngua francesa, a mulher do trabalhador, diz respeito justamente
a essa funo, tradicionalmente atribuda esposa, de ser
provedora dos limites e do comedin1ento que regulam a
estabilidade do lar (MILLER, 2002: 14)4. "La bourgeoise" tem,
alis, seu equivalente chauvinista em nossa lngua ptria, como
se nota na expresso do marido contrariado com a obrigao de
chegar mais cedo en1 casa para prestar contas "patroa". Tanto
aqui con10 do outro lado do Atlntico, a "bourgeoise" ou a
"patroa" se configuram como guardis prudentes do Mesmo,
sempre prontas a reteren1 o idealismo incauto do hon1em para
traz-lo de volta dura realidade.
Tem seu interesse, todavia, notar que tais expresses s
referen1, invariavelmente, mulher na condio de casada. E
porque, se para aquele que se posiciona como home1n, o limite
que faz a margem do Um encontra-se desde sempre estruturado
pelo ndice flico; para a mulher, comenta Jacques-Alain Miller a
partir de um artigo de Hans Sachs, esse ndice no dado pela
estrutura. Ela deve zelar por esse lin1ite justan1ente porque ele
no lhe estruturalmente dado. Trata-se de um limite que a
mulher adota de maneira contingente no encontro com o homem
que a ama, desde que ela acorde importncia a esse amor. Tal lhe
parece ser o caso de Brigitte Bardot, que de destacada mulher de
esquerda, no momento em que vivia com um eminente advogado
do partido socialista francs, passou a emitir teses ignbeis de
ultradireita sobre a desigualdade das raas desde que esposou un1
lder da Frente Nacio11al (MILLER, 2002: 19).
No existe, nesse sentido, um Unjversal feminino a ser
articulado ao Universal n1asculino. Trata-se antes de un1a
oposi.o entre o Universal e algo que no se universaliza,s cujo
limite s pode ser to1nado de emprstimo. Talvez no seja casual
que a lngua alem aplique ao substantivo "mulher" o artigo
nominativo neutro (das Weib), normalmente empregado para
designar a criana (das Kind) ou o animal (das Tier), como se o

, die Frau) s vicissitudes da n1ulher (no sentido de das
Weib). E o que n1ostra o in1passe representado pelo sofrin1ento
das senhoras histricas, na poca de Freud, diante das tentativas
de uniformizao do comportamento geradas pelas cincias
disciplinares. Ali onde o saber do n1estre encontrava, no esque1na
classificatrio, a norma de regulao do Mesmo, a h.ister.ia traria
tona o desejo que se manifesta na forma de um padecimento
inclassificvel, no agrupvel por nenhun1 tipo de saber. De sua
associao quase constante com a condio feminina, a histeria
ser, ento, percebila ora como mistrio que fascina, ora como
alvo de difa1nao. E o que j se l desde o Timeu de Plato, para
quem os sintomas histricos derivaria1n do comporta1nento
indcil do tero que, nas mulheres, age como un1 animal errante
(Ti,neu, 91c), associando assim a histeria animalidade feminina
no domesticada pela cultura.
Mas o n1esmo padecimento histrico desqualificado por um
Meynert, que nele v uma in1postura dirigida a ganhos
secundrios, ser celebrado com o tema da "beleza convulsiva"
por um Andr Breton. Existe pois un1 in1passe do pensan1ento
face a esse cintilante enign1a do Outro sexo, que se traduz num
movimento pendular constante entre fascn.io e difamao. E, ao
que parece, no h meios para sairmos dessa oscilao
indefinida, se no abandonarn1os a convico relativa potncia
reguladora do Mesmo na figura do Um.
preciso enfim, como sugere Lacan em "... ou pior", parar de
suspirar pelo Um. preciso parar de acreditar no poder
segregador do Um que son1ente prescreve, em seu Universo,
quem dele faz parte como unidade do Mesmo, na medida en1 que
proscreve quem dele se exclui como alteridade que no cabe em
sua coleo. No lugar de afirmar que "o Um ", como ocorre na
prescrio 011tolgica do Mesn10 pela metafsica, cabe apenas
dizer que "h do Um" (Y a d'l'Un). Ou seja: que o Um, longe de
ser naturalmente dado, ocasionalmente se produz enquanto efeito
contingente do agenciamento do ser por un1 discurso que poderia
n1uito be1n jamais ter existido, con10 o caso do discurso
n1etafsico. 11 Fazer crer que "o Un1 desde sempre ", como
potncia normativa do ser, corresponde to somente impostura
ideolgica que tenta nos conduz.ir a aceitar a ordem imposta
como un1a organizao natural das coisas no inundo.
Ali onde a histeria interrogava o mestre terapeuta com sua
doena inclassificvel, como Lacan exibe na parte superior do

Certan1ente no se trata aqui de dizer a uns e outros se devem
achar bom ou no resistir s normas sociais que realmente os
estigmatizam, mas sem dvida alguma no somos assim to
livres para "politizar nossa sexualidade", e nen1 para con1prar
aquele famoso par de sapatos extravagantes!

Sustentarei 1neus comentrios a partir da aula de 11/06/1974 do
sen1inrio "Le non-dupes errent" de Jacques Lacan. Nessa aula,
Lacan retoma as frmulas da sexuao, as quatro frn1ulas, para
aplic-la dessa vez apenas s mulheres. No se trata somente do
lado direito, mas de como elas se acomodam incomodamente ao
lado esquerdo, vindo do direito e pelas n1elhores razes.
A primeira coisa que Lacan nos diz que s h identificao
sexuada de um lado, e que, se falamos disso, a referncia
sen1pre uma mulher, j que s ela capaz de faz-la.
Ele tambm se pergunta por que .isso no possvel no
homem, respondendo: "porque o homem est entortado pelo seu
sexo". 137 Alis, ele vai um pouco mais longe, ao assegurar que
ela s pode fazer isso j que necessrio que passe pelo gozo
flico, justamente o que lhe falta. A partir da, vai situando, em
cada uma das frmulas, a identificao sexuada que definiu
previamente.
Comea com vx<t>x, perguntando-se para perguntar o que
implica essa frn1ula na mulher. A resposta simples: que um
homen1 seja todo para ela. Lacan no d sossego, pois logo en1
seguida afirma que seria por essa razo que " prprio da
natureza da mulher, a natureza do seu amor, ser ciume11ta". 138
Observemos a cascata de argumentos, de fundamentao - e
acrescento, lgica - presentes nessa aula e as consequncias
estruturais que dela derivan1.
Deixo um pouco de lado essa primeira frmula - eu a
retomarei - para passar segunda frmula abordada por Lacan:
