THE JOMSBORGELAG CONSTITUTION

1.

Members of the Jomsborgelag hold the rank of Drengr and must be combatant (noncombatants are called Gestir and collectively known as Household)

2.

The Jomsborgelag is organised into a number of Storms, each one presided over by a
Storm Commander

3.

Leaders within the Storms hold the position of Styrsman and must have 10 active Drengr
(including themselves). This constitutes a Lag and must be authorised and approved by
their Storm. Gestir are non-combatant members of a Lag that focus on crafts / living
history.

4.

Until such a time as they all swear the Oath, they are not recognised within Jomsborg.

5.

A Storm Commander swears loyalty to the Jarl and to Jomsborg (the Council) and to
uphold the constitution of Jomsborg and foster the spirit of Jomsborg. The Banner
represents Jomsborg in the ceremony.

6.

Styrsmen swear loyalty to the Jarl and to Jomsborg (the Council). They also swear
obedience to their Storm Commander and to uphold the constitution of Jomsborg and
foster the spirit of Jomsborg. The Banner represents Jomsborg in the ceremony.

7.

Drengr swear loyalty to the Jarl and to Jomsborg (the Council). They also swear
obedience to their Styrsman and to uphold the constitution of Jomsborg and foster the
spirit of Jomsborg. The Banner represents Jomsborg in the ceremony.

8.

Gestir swear loyalty to the Jarl and to Jomsborg (the Council). They also swear obedience
to their Styrsman and to uphold the constitution of Jomsborg and foster the spirit of
Jomsborg. The Banner represents Jomsborg in the ceremony.

9.

Free Drengr / Gestir swear loyalty to the Jarl and to Jomsborg (the Council). They also
swear obedience to their Storm Commander and to uphold the constitution of Jomsborg
and foster the spirit of Jomsborg. The Banner represents Jomsborg in the ceremony.

10.

Drengr not part of a Lag, known as Free Drengr are under the direct control of the
relevant Storm Commander.

11.

Storms, Styrsmen and Drengr should all aspire to become a Jomsviking.

12.

Styrsmen are responsible only for those Drengr which are part of their Lag. They do not
have command over other Drengr, unless ordered to have such command by the Jarl or
his representative.

13.

A Styrsman retains control over his Drengr on the battlefield unless otherwise ordered
by the Jarl, his own Storm or their designated representative.

14.

If the Jarl is not present the Storm Commanders will elect a battle captain, unless one
has already been appointed by the Jarl. No other Jomsviking or Drengr may command
the Styrsman or his Drengr, except if they are carrying out the duties of an officer ship
which they hold.

15.

Should a dispute arise between any elements of Jomsborg then they must try to sort it
out between themselves and reach closure. If this is not possible then they must ask
whomever they report to, to intercede and mediate a settlement.

16.

In the case of a dreng or gestir they should first go to their Styrsman (or Storm if they do
not belong to a Lag) to try and resolve the conflict. If the Styrsman cannot resolve it,
then they must go to their Storm. If the Storm cannot resolve it, the Jarl must mediate.
Should the Jarl not be able to mediate a successful solution, the Council will make the
final decision.

17.

Should drengr or gestir from different Lags and/or Storms be involved in the dispute
then both Styrsmen / Storms must be involved.

18.

If any non-Jomsviking have a dispute with a Jomsviking and they are unable to resolve it
themselves, it shall be resolved by the relevant parties with the Jarl acting as
representative for the Jomsviking.

19.

Styrsmen and drengr of the Jomsborgelag will be trained in the Jomsviking Fighting
System, with emphasis on skill and safety

20.

No political lobbying of any kind will be tolerated within the Jomsborgelag. Such
lobbying may result in expulsion

21.

Any member bringing disrepute on the Jomsborgelag may be expelled
