Question 2
Read the following text. Then, answer questions (a) (j).

Teasing is often part of growing up almost every child experiences it. But it isn't
always as harmless as it seems. Words can cause pain. Teasing becomes bullying when it is
repetitive or when there is a conscious intent to hurt another child. It can be verbal
bullying, psychological bullying , or physical bullying .
Victims of bullying are often shy and tend to be physically weaker than their peers.
They may also have low self-esteem and poor social skills, which makes it hard for them to
stand up for themselves. Bullies consider these children safe targets because they usually
don't retaliate.
If the child is the victim of bullying, he may suffer physically and emotionally such
as problems with low self-esteem and depression. These problems can last into adulthood
and interfere with personal and professional lives. Bullies are affected too, even into
adulthood; they may have difficulty forming positive relationships. They are more apt to
use tobacco and alcohol.

Question 3
Questions (a)-(j) are based on the article about Healthy Hydration Guide.
HEALTHY HYDRATION GUIDE
Water is essential for life and it is very important to get the right amount of fluid to be healthy.

Why do you need water?

Your body is nearly two-thirds water and so it is really important that you consume enough fluid to
stay hydrated and healthy. Fluid includes not only water from drinks but from the food you eat. On
average, food provides about 20% of your total fluid intake.

How much do you need?

The amount of fluid you need depends on many things including the weather, how much physical
activity you do and your age.

Can you drink too much?

Yes drinking excessive amounts of fluid is not helpful and, in rare cases can be dangerous. If you
are passing urine frequently and your urine is very pale, you may be drinking more than you need.
When you choose your drinks it is important to be aware that although they all provide water and
some also contain essential vitamins and minerals, they may also provide energy (calories). It is also
important to look after your teeth, and consuming sugar-containing drinks too often can potentially
harm your teeth. It is also important to be aware that some drinks are acidic and this may cause
damage to tooth enamel. Drinking water is a great choice because it delivers fluid without adding
calories or potentially damaging teeth. Apart from that, milk contains lots of essential nutrients such
as protein, B vitamins and calcium, as well as being a source of water. Fruit juices give you water
plus some vitamins, minerals and natural plant substances from the fruits.
Drinking enough should be an easily achievable health goal. Most people can drink enough fluids to
meet their water needs. Although it is a relatively simple step to take, it can easily get overlooked as
part of increasingly hectic lifestyles.

Question 4
Read the following passage.

GIVING LIFE
It was a hot summer day. My dad and I were getting ready to go out for a ride on the boat with my
friend, Katie. Thats when the phone call came - the call that made that bright, beautiful day a cold,
dark, gloomy one.
I had just put on my suit, shorts, and tank top, and packed my bag with sunscreen and everything
else I would need for the day. I ran into my parents room to find Dad. When I saw him on the
phone, he was crying. Id never seen my dad cry before. My heart sank. What possibly could have
happened?
Max, Im so sorry, I heard him say. Thats when it hit me. I knew that Suzie had died.
Max has been my dads best friend for years. Suzie, his daughter had a rare disease that mainly
affected her body. She knew what was going on. She knew that she had problems and was different
from other kids. Although she couldnt live a normal life, she was still happy.
When Suzie and I were little, we spent quite a bit of time together. As we grew up, we grew apart.
She lived in New York and I lived in a nearby town. When Suzie was ten, she had to live in a
hospital. About eight months before she died, Max had given us her number at the hospital and we
talked at least twice a week until the end. Suzie was always so excited to talk to us and wanted to
know every detail about my life. She wanted to know everything I did and everything I ate. In a
way, she lived through me.
After we found out about her death, we made our plan to go to New York for the funeral. When she
was alive, I sent her a Beanie Baby and she sent one back to me. I had bought her another one but
never had the chance to send it to her, so I took it to put in her casket.
I learned so much from her. She gave me more than what I could ever give her. I will never forget
her or the talks we had. I now know that I must never take anything for granted especially my health
and the gifts of life.

THE RIVER
The Rivers a wanderer,
A nomad, a tramp,
He doesnt choose one place
To set up his camp.
The Rivers a winder,
Through valley and hill
He twists and he turns,
He just cannot be still.
The Rivers a hoarder,
And he buries down deep
Those little treasures
That he wants to keep.
The Rivers a baby,
He gurgles and hums,
And sounds like hes happily
Sucking his thumbs.
The Rivers a singer
As he dances along,
The countryside echoes
The notes of his song.
The Rivers a monster
Hungry and vexed,
Hes gobbled up trees
And hell swallow you next.
