Grading: Exams 4 at 10% each, Labs - 25%, Final 15% Assignments 20%. The grading scale utilized
is:
A = 3.5-4.0 90-100%
Excellent work,
B = 3.0-3.4 80-89%
Good work,
C = 2.0-2.9 70-79%
Average work, few errors
D = 1.0-1.9 60-69%
Poor work, several possible reasons
F = 0.0
0-59%
Failing work.
Description of Laboratory experiences:
Laboratory experiences are developed to allow students to be exposed to real world type problems and
industry standards through group design problems and field trip experiences.
You must attend and participate in each lab. If you miss any laboratory session except under extreme
cirumstances, you will fail the class. You will lose points on your laboratory report for showing up late,
leaving early.
Attendance Lecture
You are responsible for all material and information covered in class. If you miss class, please work with a
classmate for material missed. Please arrive on time for class. If a tardiness problem develops, I will
close and lock the door. Do not knock on the door to be admitted if you find the door closed. Please
contact me in advance or as soon after the fact as practical if you have a legitimate reason for missing class
to be excused and allowed to make up assignments. Three or more absences can result in you being
dropped from the class.
Assignments
Assignments shall be turned in at the beginning of class unless otherwise specified. I will accept late work
after the due date/time or until I post a solution with a 10% reduction in value per day or part of a day for
up to 5 days. Due dates can be extended for special circumstances with advance notice. I will also allow a
grace period after the fact for truly unexpected hardship situations.
Academic Integrity
I anticipate that students will discuss and work together on projects. However, the work that you turn in
must represent your efforts and not those of a classmate. If you collaborate enough with another student
that I would see the duplication then you should state that fact i.e. analysis of the laboratory data done
and graphs created with Joe Smith and Karen Allen.
Violations of academic integrity involve the use of any method or technique enabling a student to
misrepresent the quality and integrity of his or her own academic work or the work of a fellow student. I
will report students committing academic dishonesty to the appropriate university officials. This will result
in an appropriate penalty possibly including recording an XF grade (failure due to academic dishonesty) for

this course on the students transcript. In cases where a student has an existing record of academic
dishonesty, the University may apply a more severe penalty, such as suspension or dismissal from the
university. For further information, please refer to the Student Academic Integrity Policy.
Equal Opportunity Statement, Affirmative Action, and American Disability Act
No person shall, on the basis of age, race, religion, color, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity,
national origin, or disability, shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be
subjected to discrimination under any program or activity of Eastern Washington University.
Eastern Washington University adheres to affirmative action policies to promote diversity and equal
opportunity for all faculty and students.
Eastern Washington University is committed to providing support for students with disabilities. If you are a
student with physical, learning, emotional, or psychological disabilities needing an accommodation, you
are encouraged to stop by Disability Support Services (DSS), TAW 124 and speak with Kevin Hills, the
Manager DSS or call 509-359-6871. If you have a documented need for accommodations please see me
far enough in advance so I can make the necessary arrangements.
