Algebra 2 Honors PBA

This year, we have focused heavily on different types of functions and their
graphs. In this project, you will synthesize your knowledge of these types of
graphs to create a picture using the DESMOS graphing calculator.
You are handing in 3 things by the end:
1. Picture (Desmos.com link and a hard copy)
2. Reflection (emailed and a hard copy)
3. PDF copy of the presentation
Here are the guidelines:

Your picture
o

Your picture will be created in DESMOS.

See the section Requirements below for a list of functions and

other elements that must be included in your picture.

Be sure to organize your function list in DESMOS so that it is

easy to find each function type. You can do this by creating a
note in the list above each required function, indicating which
type of function it is.

Feel free to make use of the folder tool to further organize

your equations.

You must submit a reflection after you are finished

o

Typed, 12 times new roman, double spaced, 500 word min.

Things to touch upon

What changes would you make and how would

improving your draft (the next time) could make it
easier?

What challenges did you face when performing the

project?

What did you learn about functions?

How will you use this tool in the future?

Presentation
o

You will use either Prezi or PowerPoint to present your project.

SUBMISSION: by emailing me the desmos link to your project, drafts will be

submitted by hand on due date of final project, reflections will be submitted
on the google conversation link that I will email you
See the attached rubric for more details

Requirements

You will need at least 15 functions (though you will probably end up
with a good deal more than this).
Note: In order for your functions to fit the picture you are creating, you
will need to limit the domain. DESMOS takes a modified set builder
notation. See the tutorial on how to restrict a domain in DESMOS.
The following functions are required:
- Quadratics - at least 3, one of each in the following forms:
o vertex form
o standard form
o factored form
- Polynomial functions of degree n>2 (at least 3)
- Rational function with a discontinuity
- Inverse function
- Radical function
- Absolute value function
Remember, you will have to transform your functions to fit your
picture!
All projects must include at least 3 of the following challenge
elements:
-

Piecewise function
Circle
Ellipse
Hyperbola
Animation (see tutorial)

Note that creativity and level of difficulty are categories on the rubric.
Only very impressive projects can earn an A. Aim to wow everyone
with your project when you present.

Presentation

You will present your project to the class. During your presentation,
you will:
- Explain the significance of your picture.
- Explain how you have incorporated each of the required
elements in your project.
- Discuss the reflection questions.
o What changes would you make and how would improving
your draft (the next time) could make it easier?
o What challenges did you face when performing the project?
o What did you learn about functions?
o How will you use this tool in the future?
With these reflection questions in mind, it would be a good idea
to take screenshots as you progress so that you can incorporate
pictures in a presentation that highlight challenges you had and
how you overcame them.
Choose a method to present all parts of the project. Powerpoint or prezi
are recommended formats let me know if you would like to use a
different one. You must include the AHC Honor Code in your
presentation file.
