OPERATION
The main electric pump automatically starts when its associated starter panel receives a signal from
the system pressure switch, or other initiator, due to a system pressure reduction greater than that
which the jockey pump can cope with and continues to operate until manually stopped
PUMP Design
The pump units are taken from the SPP end suction back-pull-out range of centrifugal units being
manufactured in accordance with DIN 24255 and FM approved and / or UL listed where necessary
or required.
The suction and discharge branches being cast integral with the volute casing gives a back-pull-out
facility permitting the removal of back cover, stuffing box and impeller without disturbance of casing or
pipework.
The impeller, shrouded with balancing vanes, is machined and hand finished smooth and keyed to the
shaft. The wear ring gives fine clearances for high efficiency to be maintained. The shaft is machined
to close tolerances and of amply proportions to transmit the maximum load. The sleeve extends from
the impeller through the stuffing box to protect the shaft against wear, erosion and corrosion and is
renewable.
The stuffing box is of deep design and soft packed for proper sealing
The grease lubricated bearings are mounted in a housing spigoted to provide perfect alignment
Connections
The end suction and top discharge branches are flanged and drilled to BS4504 PN16
Construction
The casing is cast iron and case wear ring and impeller are bronze. The carbon steel shaft is fitted
with a bronze sleeve.
MOTOR
Motors up to and including 22kW are totally enclosed fan cooled IP55 aluminium frame machines.
Motors 30kW up to 250kW are open drip proof IP23 cast iron frame machines.
The IEC design factory choice motors are Eurovoltage machines (400v 3ph 50Hz) and suitable for use
on 380v to 415v supplies. They can be used in ambient temperatures up to 40 Deg C and altitudes not
exceeding 1000m above sea level. The motor has Class F insulation, EFF 2 efficiency values and
performance figures in accordance with EN 60034
Six terminals are provided to allow either direct on line or star delta starting

The pump is long coupled to the motor using a spacer coupling to allow full advantage of the back
pullout facility without disturbing the motor. All rotating parts are guarded.
Both pump and motor are mounted on a substantial steel baseplate suitably designed for gouting in.
ACCESSORIES
- Circulation pressure relief valve to provide a continuous flow of water preventing overheating when
operating against a closed valve (requires connecting to waste)
- Compound pressure / vacuum gauge on suction branch and pressure gauge on discharge branch
