Epson U220 Ethernet Printer Configuration

Configure the Printers IP Address


NOTE: This step is required for both replacement printers and new printer installations.
Out of the box, an Epson U220 Ethernet Printer comes preset with an IP Address which
will need to be changed to match your sites IP scheme. Follow the steps below to
change the new printers IP address.
1. Connect the new or replacement IP printer to the network Ethernet cable.
2. With the printer in the off position, depress the reset button on the printer Ethernet
card and turn the printer on. Remember to keep holding the reset button until the
printer begins to print a chit.
3. The printer will print a chit with its current IP Address and MAC Address. (Note: do
not turn the printer off).
4. Log into the Aloha file server as an administrator. (NOTE: you must login with an
admin account or the following commands will return errors and not complete
successfully).
5. Open a command prompt and type the following command at the DOS prompt:
arp -s 192.168.0.x nn-nn-nn-nn-nn-nn
(192.168.0.x represents the IP Address you want to assign to this printer.
nn-nn-nn-nn-nn-nn represents the printers MAC Address as printed on the chit
from step 3.
6. Next type following command at the DOS prompt: ping 192.168.0.x
(192.168.0.x represents the IP Address you assigned to the printer above)
7. Turn the printer off and then back on.
If this is a replacement for an existing IP printer that is already configured in
Aloha, stop here. The printer is ready to use.
If this is a new IP printer being added to your network proceed with the steps below to
install the drivers and configure the printer in Aloha.

Install the Epson Windows Driver


1 The Epson Windows driver must be downloaded from the Epson POS website and
installed on the terminal that will be driving the IP printer.
Go to www.pos.epson.com
2 Select the Technical Resources option from the screen.

3 Select the Printers drop-down and select the TM-U220Series from the list.

4 Under the Windows Drivers section select the Advanced Printer Driver download
from the list and Run or Save to the hard drive of the terminal that will be driving
the printer.

5. Double click on the downloaded file.


6. Extract the files to a folder of your choice.
7. Run the APD executable file from the folder where you extracted the files.
8. Accept the license agreement.
9. Click Next.

11. Select the EPSON TM-U220 Receipt Printer Type.


12. Click on Printer Port Setting e.t.c. botton.

13. Select TCP/IP and enter the printers IP address.

14. NOTE: The printers Network Name must be the same in Aloha and Windows printer
settings. Click OK.
15. Reboot the terminal when prompted

Configure Aloha
Once the Epson Windows Driver has been installed on the terminal you will need to
configure the printer in Aloha Manager or Configuration Center (CFC).
1 Open Aloha Manager | Select Maintenance | Select Hardware | Select Printers.
2 Select or create a new printer to be the Ethernet printer.
3 Select the terminal to drive the printer. (This will be the printer you installed the
Epson drivers on earlier)
4 Set the Type to Windows Printer.
5 Define the Windows Printer Name Note: This should be the same as the name
defined in the Printer and Faxes utility in Windows Control Panel.
6 Set the Windows Printer Type to Epson U200.

Perform a POS refresh to update the settings. The printer is now ready to use.

Additional Information and Resources

The terminals Windows configuration will look similar to the example below after
installing the Epson drivers. The IP printer should be selected as the default Windows
printer on the terminal.

the process above is the easiest way to configure Epson Ethernet printers for use with
Aloha.
