Introduction
Sparks 6 Teachers Resource Book offers
information and tips to help you get the most from
all the teachers materials. It also contains additional
photocopiable resources to help widen and support
the childrens learning.
Flashcards
E-solutions
All the Sparks digital components run on Windows,
Linux or MAC operating systems and are compatible
with all interactive whiteboard (IWB) software.
Insert the Multi-ROM or the CD-ROM into the
computer connected to the IWB. If it fails to run
automatically, click on exeWin.exe to run.
The Sparks E-solutions pack includes three
CD-ROMs:
1) Students Multi-ROM
Sparks 6 Multi-ROM is a fantastic interactive
resource for both children and teachers which
provides thorough practice of the Students Book
contents. It contains eight units with interactive
activities covering all the main language taught in
the Students Book.
Sparks 6 Multi-ROM can be used in class with
an IWB to exploit the course contents while also
helping children understand the concept of working
together as a team to achieve a common objective.
Alternatively, it can be used on an individual level
by children working alone either in the Multimedia

Vocabulary and grammar games
Each unit contains two vocabulary activities and
two grammar activities which provide further
practice of the Students Book contents.
The bottom menu contains a running score which
shows the total number of questions the children
have to complete as well as the ones they get
correct. The bottom menu also offers the possibility
of restarting any activity immediately.
Most of the activities include a timer to make them
more challenging for the children.
Activities with a long listening include a control to
pause the audio or move backwards and forwards.
This enables the children to listen to any part they
need again.
Some activities contain more than one screen. Click
on the icon on the bottom menu to access the next
screen.
The Multi-ROM activities include a final screen
showing the correct answers to revise the key
concepts presented in each activity. In some
activities the revision starts automatically right after
the cheering animation. In others, click on the icon
on the results screen to access.
Each unit contains a digital version of the Students
Book story and a reading comprehension activity.
The story runs automatically to facilitate its
projection. The digital story is an excellent tool to
attract the childrens attention.
The Phonics section offers an additional activity to
consolidate the listening and writing skills of the
children.

All the images and pictures in Sparks 6 Digital
can be enlarged. This is a fantastic visual feature
which can be used for developing childrens
speaking skills.
3) The Interactive Young Learner Practice CD-ROM
(Flyers level)
This CD-ROM includes three complete interactive
exams for YLE practice on an IWB. The interactive
tools for the children are placed at a lower level on
the screen to facilitate their participation with the
IWB. The interactive tools for the teacher are located
at the top of the screen to help teachers guide and
control the childrens work.
Apart from IWB exploitation, the Interactive
YLE Practice CD-ROM also contains a network
installation facility which enables the children to
work at their own rythym in the Multimedia Lab.
This helps teachers cater for mixed ability settings.
Tips
Teachers can focus on practising one activity type or
have the children complete one exam at a time. The
CD-ROM contains a printable version of each exam
which includes tips for conducting the Speaking
Exams, as well as all the answers.

Introduction
Apart from being a recognised meter of a students
skills in English, the examination also works as a
motivational tool encouraging students to practise
and try to communicate in English.

Whats his name?
Put the red pen on the green book.
Wheres the rubber?
Where do you come from?
Tell me about your house.
Do you have any pets?
What day is it today?
Is it March or April?
How many children are there in your class?
Look at this picture, what is this woman wearing?
Grade 3

Tell me about your mother.
Whats the date today?
What time is it?

Elementary Stage (Grades 4, 5 and 6)
This is a 10 minute exam which has 2 phases;
a discussion on the candidates pre-prepared
topic and the conversation. Children should try
Tips
In each English lesson, ask general questions
such as What day is it today? Whats the weather
like today? Is it spring or summer? How old are you?
Encourage full answers whenever asking
questions. T: What day is it today? SS:Tuesday.
T: Its Tuesday.
When asking questions, if a child does not know
the answer, encourage them to say I dont
know or I cant remember or Im sorry, I dont
know the word in English, rather than remaining
silent or saying errr.
Make question practice fun. Do it in the form of a
team quiz and award points. Or ask questions at
the end of a lesson, whoever answers correctly
can line up first.
Practise for the exam in regular, short sessions
so candidates become more confident with the
style of question and can answer more rapidly
and naturally.
When choosing a grade for candidates, consider
the childs personality as well as their level of
English. A shy child with a good level of English,
may not do as well as a more outgoing child
who speaks more spontaneously.
Encourage the children to ask questions too.
From Level 2 onwards they are expected to ask
the examiner questions.
Whats this?
What are they?
How many cats are there in this picture?
Look, I have a (blue shirt, brown trousers and black
shoes). And you?

to maintain a fluid conversation rather than just
answering the examiners questions.
Tips for preparing the topic
Children should choose something that they
are genuinely interested in and can talk easily
about, (a hobby, pet, recent holiday...).
They should collect all necessary photos or
pictures well before the exam to give them time
to plan the points and practice what to say.
Children should not learn their topic by heart as
they must speak naturally and spontaneously in
the exam.
Allow children the possibility of presenting their
topic to the class and answering their questions
to give them more confidence.
The child should prepare several questions to
ask the examiner related to their topic.
Make a photocopy of the Topic Form for each
student. Check that their information and
spelling is correct before giving them the real
Topic Form to complete.
Example questions
Grade 4
What are you going to do this weekend?
Where did you go on holiday last year?
When did you start in this school?
How often do you go to the cinema?

Did you watch any TV last night?
Grade 5

Victoria: Hi. This is Spitalfields Market in London.
Its a Sunday market. Its open every Sunday. But what
exactly can you buy here?
This used to be a fruit and vegetable market in the
old days. Clothes here are a bit more expensive than
other markets.
How do you get the money? I save up my pocket
money and do odd jobs for my parents. Some kids
have part-time jobs, like delivering newspapers.
What do you think? No, I dont like it either.
So, what is street fashion?
Woman: I think street fashion is colourful, cheap,
its individual.

There are different sources of energy. Some are
renewable and others are non-renewable. Nonrenewable sources do not last forever. We should use
more renewable sources because they do not run out.
Coal, gas, oil and uranium are all non renewable
sources. Solar, geothermal, wind, hydroelectric, wave
and tiadal and biomass are all renewable sources.
Wave and tidal energy is from the sea and geothermal
energy is from the heat in the earth. Some people
make their own electricity. They use windmills and
solar panels.

My heart pumps blood around my body. The blood
flows along my arteries and veins. It flows away from
my heart along my arteries. It flows back to my heart
along my veins. My arteries carry oxygen. My veins
carry carbon dioxide. My brain controls my heart beat
automatically. The part of the brain that controls my
heart beat is called the brain stem.

The water in the sea evaporates. Then it condenses in
the clouds. It rains. The rain falls into the river. The
river flows down into the sea. When its very cold it
snows. When the snow melts it flows into the river.
Sometimes the snow freezes into icebergs.

In London there are a lot of cars in the north and
south of the city, but in the centre people pay a
special charge to drive their cars. You can travel on
the underground or the bus. Two of the underground
lines in the city centre are the Circle Line and the
Central line. You can visit the Science Museum and
the London City museum to see the scenes of the
Great Fire of London.
