The Honorable Andrew M.

Cuomo
Governor of New York State
NYS Capitol Building
Albany, NY 12224
September 27, 2016
Dear Governor Cuomo,
The undersigned coalition of affordable housing stakeholders representing affordable, supportive, and
senior housing organizations throughout New York State thanks you for taking a step forward by
instructing your budget director to sign the memorandum of understanding (MOU) to release $2 billion
in funding to support a desperately needed statewide affordable housing plan.
We now urge you to bring all parties together to come to an agreement on how the funds should be
strategically allocated to best address the State's housing needs before October 1st, as that date marks
six months since the state budget was passed with these housing funds allocated. Your outline for
investment is one that we hope will garner support by the Legislature, but we know that negotiations
will be required to come to agreement on an MOU supported and signed by all parties.
As we continue to wait for the MOU to be finalized and signed by all three parties, the need for
affordable, senior, and supportive housing is only growing. We can no longer wait. We call on you to
take immediate action on behalf of more than one million households in New York who pay more for
rent than they can afford, the 80,000 people in our state who are homeless, the hundreds of thousands
of seniors who remain on long waiting lists for affordable housing, and homeowners struggling to hold
on to their homes.

Sincerely,
