Introduce students to the fundamental concepts of flight dynamics
Enable students to analytically estimate static and dynamic stability derivatives
Enable students to study the stability of longitudinal and lateral aircraft motions
Enable students to obtain responses to actuation of open-loop and closed-loop controls
Stability and Control during steady and perturbed flight
This class includes a brief review of applied aerodynamics and modern approaches in aircraft
stability and control. Topics covered include static stability and trim; stability derivatives and
characteristics, longitudinal and lateral-directional motions; and physical effects of the wing,
fuselage, and tail on aircraft motion. Control methods and systems are discussed, with
emphasis on flight vehicle stabilization by classical and modern state-space control techniques
