CASE STUDY ON SOCIAL MOBILITY
Conduct a research on the family background and life histories of any two families (from
different class). Consider the following to complete this activity:
(1) The factors (e.g. education, income etc) which influence an individuals access to
material resources
(2) The relationship between the two families and their household structure in class
analysis.
(3) Provide evidence of intra- or intergenerational mobility in your case studies, and
identify common factors that facilitate such change.

Marking scheme: Question number 1 and 2 carry 5 marks each and part three carries 10
marks.
OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The main objective of this assignment is to enhance your better understanding of the
social stratification and social mobility in the family and class and to teach you the
practical implication of the theory on society.
