1. The Great India Run Indias first multi-city marathon has started from which
city of India?
New Delhi - Indias first multi-city marathon The Great India Run has started from
New Delhi on July 17, 2016. The run will pass through Uttar Pradesh, Delhi,
Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and will end at Mumbai in
Maharashtra on August 6, 2016.

2. What is the Indias rank on business optimism index for June quarter 2016, as
per the latest Grant Thornton International Business Report (IBR)?

India has been ranked 3rd on the business optimism index for April-June quarter of
2016, as per the latest Grant Thorntons latest International Business Report (IBR).
After remaining on top globally for the two preceding quarters, Indias rank has
dropped due to delays in key reforms such as Goods and Services Tax ( GST), nonresolution of tax disputes, banking issues due to NPAs and the banking sectors
performance .

3. 18th July : Nelson Mandela International Day observed

a) Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson


Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela's birthday. The day is aimed at
inspiring individuals to take action to help change the world for the better.
b) The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the
first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010. However, other groups began
celebrating Mandela Day on 18 July 2009.

c) The Day recognized Nelson Mandelas values and his dedication to the service of
humanity, in the fields of conflict resolution, race relations, the promotion and
protection of human rights. The Nobel Peace Prize 1993 was awarded jointly to
Nelson Mandela and Frederik Willem de Klerk "for their work for the peaceful
termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new
democratic South Africa".
4. India's first e-court opened in Hyderabad
a) India's first e-court has opened at High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad. It is the
common high court for the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
b) Inaugurating the e-court, Supreme Court judge Justice Madan B Lokur stated that
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were first two states in the country to be chosen for
Integrated Criminal Justice System project.
c) Justice Lokur, who heads the e-Committee of the Supreme Court, said modalities of
the system will be worked out at a meeting scheduled on July 28.
5. HCL Tech appoints Vijay Kumar as COO

6. Developing Asian Economies to Grow 5.6 %


a) The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has cut its 2016 growth projection for
developing economies in Asia & the Pacific.

b) It has cut the forecast to 5.6 percent, down from its earlier forecast of 5.7 percent.
c) The ADB in his report released kept the growth forecast for 2017 of 5.7
% unchanged.

d) The ADB is a regional development bank established on 19 Dec 1966 which

a) The Commerce Ministry has launched an e-marketplace for online purchase of goods
& services by various central govt ministries & departments.
b) The move is aimed at bringing in more transparency& streamlining the govt
procurement of goods & services.
c) The Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D) has developed the
portal.
d) E-commerce is a fast growing industry in the country.

16. 21 July, India will host the BRICS Policy Planning Dialogue on 26th of this month at
Patna in Bihar. The discussion will take forward the Policy Planning talks initiated
under Russias Shairmanship last year in line with this years theme of Building
Responsive, Inclusive and Collective Solutions.
17. 22 July, cabinet approved the establishment of an All India Institute of Medical
Sciences (AIIMS) at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya
Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). The cost of the project for the establishment of the new
AIIMS in Gorakhpur shall be Rs. 1011 crore.

18. University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked applicants to provide Aadhaar
number while applying for any UGC fellowship or scholarship. Aadhaar will be used
as an identifier for availing benefits of the UGC scholarship/fellowship schemes.
