Kenya Uganda Interconnection
AECOMs scope is to assist with the tender process, undertake
quality control, approval of contractor's designs, project
management assistance and to provide training to the Clients
personnel. The project consists of:
132 km, 220 kV double circuit transmission line from the Lessos
substation the Kenya/Uganda substation near Tororo
The works at Lessos substation includes 3x220kV line bays
complete with protection, communication and control facilities,
2x 75 MVA transformers, 2 x 15 MVA reactors.
Other interconnection projects undertaken by AECOM:

Grid Compliance Capabilities

AECOM has performed full grid code compliance studies for Chaba and Waainek Wind Farms. The studies included the
following:

AECOM successfully presented exemption requests to the Grid Code Advisory Committee (GCAC).

AECOM is currently busy with the studies for De Aar 1 and De Aar 2 Wind Farms.
AECOM is a member of the Eskom Harmonics Working Group working of the power quality guideline which will form part of

Environmental impact studies for thermal plant Senegal

situated in Bel-Air, Dakar , with one 37 MW
ISO turbine. Two projects were done to
increase the production of electricity of the
plant. The first project was a turnkey project to
install heat exchangers to cool down the
turbine using sea water in addition to air
coolers. The second project was a feasibility
study to increase the capacity of the plant by
adding one heat recovery steam generator
with additional firing and one steam turbine of
20 MW. Also, the turbine has to be converted
from fuel oil to natural gas.

Ventures for the preliminary design of the
112MW Wolseley Wind Farm. AECOM
Scope:

AECOM provided commissioning support in

the form of inspections and witnessing of
tests during the commissioning of this 7MW
PV Farm, a REIPPPP Round 1 project that
has achieved commercial operation.

AECOM was appointed by Eskom to carry

out the geotechnical investigation for this
project. The investigation covered the 46
turbine locations. The wind farm consists of
46 x 2.3MW Siemens turbines. The wind
farm does not form part of the REIPPPP
process.
