COmmanders Report
Compatriots,
Id like to wish you all a Happy beginning to the fall season as September
comes to an end. We had another successful fund raising season as the
Chesterfield county fair and Field day of the past have come and gone. Id like to
give a big thank you to Tommy Clinger for setting up and being at the fair and
field days of the past every day as well as taking down our display and filling in
our depleted stores as the need was seen. Id also like to thank all the members
and ladies that helped man the both every day, you were all great inspiration to
the cause.
Id like to say thank you to Bill Brown and Blair for presenting the camp
wreath at the Campbell county Confederate soldier memorial on September 17th.
Thank you to the camp for the small part we had in making this come to fruition.
I look forward to seeing as many of our compatriots at the Shockoe Hill
cemetery headstone dedication on Saturday. Come out and support John Henry
Taylor as he memorializes one of his relatives and a good cause. The ceremony
will begin at 0:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9th. Enter the cemetery from 300
East Bates Street, and park inside.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday October 4th at 6:00 for dinner
and meeting to follow at 7:00.
Commander
Ken

Date: 28 September 2016

Compatriots,
Please keep our Adjutant, Barry Isenhour in your thoughts and prayers. Barry's nephew,
John Isenhour, passed away this date in a North Carolina Hospital. John was a former
Marine and at the time of his fatal injury, he was an on duty Deputy Sheriff.
Compatriot Fred Behrens is slowly recovering from his fall. To date, he has not regained
the full use of his right arm. Please keep Fred in your prayers for a complete healing.
Compatriot G. B. Spencer has still not gotten over the loss of his dear wife of many years.
Please pray for G.B. to be lifted from this sadness as much as possible.
Lisa Marie Clinger continues to improve through physical therapy and is looking forward
to college. Lisa Marie is the daughter of Past Commander Tommy Clinger and Lisa Ann
Clinger.
Compatriot Robert M. Morris is recovering from back surgery.
If you know of any of our compatriots who are sick or injured, please call me at 804-7940704.
May God bless you all,
John Henry Taylor
Chaplain

In all my perplexities and distresses, the

Bible has never failed to give me light and
strength.

The month of September has been very busy with our Camp's two fundraisers,
The Chesterfield Fair & The Field Days of the Past. Under the leadership of our
Quatermaster Clinger, who worked endlessly to set up & run these successful events, we
have filled our coffers for our Fall Project at Hollywood Cemetery to mark more graves.
In addition, our Project with The Stonewall Chapter UDC to place a flagpole at The
Confederate Women Pyramid has been approved, and nowwaiting for clear weather the
erect the flagpole.
Also, our Camp Patriots Clinger & Isenhour have replaced two of the damaged 3rd
National Flags at Fritz Lee & Jeff Davis poles in Hollywood cemetery, and have been asked
by our Va Division Commander Griffin to take over and maintain all 4 Flagpoles at
Hollywood Cemetery.
Finally, our Adjutant Isenhour attended the Powhatan Labor Day Parade with The
Powhatan Troop SCV Camp #1382. 2nd Lt Brown & Compatriot Perrow attended &
laid our Camp Wreath at the Campbell Guard's new Confederate Monument for the
Campbell County Confederate Soldiers. A Historic event in the Commonwealth.
Adjutant Isenhour

News
Multiple Camp members were instrumental in the cleanup and
preparation for the Fall Marker dedication at Shockoe Cemetery.
Field Day of the Past was a Great Success, Thanks to all that
participated. The camp raised enough money to mark 15 Graves at
Hollywood Cemetery.
Raffle Ticket sales have slowing been trickling in, Please remember to
have your tickets in by The November meeting Drawing.
The Camp was represented at the Campbell County Monument
dedication and the Camp wreath was lain to honor the honorable
Soldiers of Campbell County.
Camp Members Continue to participate in Monument Guard on
Monument Ave, Contact any Camp Officer if you wish to participate in
Monument Guard.
We have received approval to install a flagpole at Riverview Cemetery
to honor the Confederate women that were laid to rest there.

Camp Officers have addressed 2nd Brigade Commander Morehead as to

why the Camp report was not included in the Virginia Divisions Old
Dominion Voice, Commander Morehead had promised to write
Commander Norman with an explanation, but has not done so yet.

Camp Members participated in the ceremony at Blandford Cemetery to

honor Pvt Richard "Dick" Poplar A Black Virginian who cast his
fortunes with the Confederacy, and endured many months of weary
imprisonment rather than desert his friends and comrades in their
misfortune. He was an honest, industrious man, highly esteemed by his
fellow Confederates. He was a member of the famous Sussex Light
Dragoons. From April 1861, until the retreat from Gettysburg, Richard
remained faithfully attached to the regiment. On the retreat, together
with many members of the command, he was captured and carried to
Fort Delaware, at which place he was confined as a prisoner for five
months. He was taken to Point Lookout and kept there fourteen months,
making his prison life nineteen months in all. Richard was exchanged
March 1, 1865, and returned to Petersburg, where he spent the
remainder of his life. Upon his death he was buried with full
Confederate honors as befitting a loyal Son of the South.

Due to the corruption of Petersburg Virginia Government, The Medal of

Honor for PVT Berry was placed in storage, Camp Officers acted
immediately upon realizing the tragedy, and Commander Brown now
has possession of the Medal of Honor. We are in the process of drawing
up an agreement to now LOAN the MOH to the Dinwiddie Historical
Society, Where the Medal will be on display year round at the
Dinwiddie Historic Courthouse.

The Oakwood Restoration Committee still operates without a written

agreement at Oakwood Cemetery, We have been told by the Virginia
Division Executive Council that the new agreement has been on the
Richmond City Attorney's desk for months awaiting to be signed.

Commander Ward has provided the Camp with a roster of Brave

Confederate Soldiers buried in Hollywood Cemetery, and we are in the
process of filling out the paperwork to mark as many graves as we can
as soon as possible.
On 9/26 members of the camp participated in the OCR Operation
Smiles program, Assisting residents of Lucy Corr Village in a Bingo
night and providing prizes, which was a very awarding experience.
Richmond Mayoral Candidate and Former Del. Joe Morrissey waded
into the simmering debate over public memorials to the Confederacy on
Monday, announcing that one of his first actions as Richmond mayor
would be to pursue removing the Jefferson Davis statue from
Monument Avenue. Please use all you resources to stop him from this
treacherous act. Contact him at 804-554-5885 or
