Necessary Background Information


The students will know what a map is and how to construct a map. They have done
this in the previous lessons. Review what a compass rose is, where the title on a
map is, and other details on a map.

Introduction

This gauges how much the students actually know and what
they dont.
Focus on
Today we will learn about what is all shown on a map. What

The Lesson

3. Do this same procedure with the four oceans.
4. Next bring up a blank map of the United States.
Then add the borders of the states. Have them located
South Dakota.
5. Now show different landforms, mountain ranges,
and other well-known features on the map to the
students. Rocky and Appalachian Mountains, Gulf of
Mexico, Black Hills, Mississippi River, Great Salt Lake,
Missouri River, Colorado River, and Sonora Desert.
6. Break into 2 groups and play a jeopardy game
with the blank maps and what the different areas.
Assign the worksheet about labeling the maps and the
students will turn them in the next day.
