The Lostwithiel Hotel, Golf and Country Club offers you an exciting package of on-site facilities

SWIMMING POOL
We have an attractive indoor heated swimming pool suitable for all ages. Patio doors join the pool to a small sunbathing
veranda. The pool is 25 foot in length with a maximum depth of 1.8 metres and has Roman steps at the shallow end. The pool
is monitored by closed circuit television for your personal safety and security.
THE GYM
Located within the main building, our well equipped gym offers guests all they need for their normal fitness requirements.
Visitors must sign a declaration and be familiar with the machines before using. We also have a personal trainer to put you
through your paces who is available by prior appointment.
TENNIS COURTS
We have two outdoor hard courts set within the natural beauty of the hotel’s grounds.
HORSE RIDING
There are two riding schools nearby offering everything from beginner tuition to riding on the moors around Bodmin.

Golf At The Lostwithiel Hotel
We have built a fine reputation for our golfing facilities. The fantastic on-site 18 hole course and close
proximity to other major courses makes our hotel the ideal venue for a golfing break or holiday.
The nearly 6,000 yard par 72 course was established in 1991 and offers both a challenge to the accomplished player and
the beginner.
The challenging front nine rewards you with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside, while the picturesque back nine runs

At Lostwithiel we welcome societies on weekdays and weekends. The minimum number for a
golf society is 8 and for confirmed bookings of 18 people or more, the organiser goes for free.
We have a number of packages that suit most groups or are happy to tailor a day to your exact
requirements if you would prefer.
Start the day with a hearty breakfast, followed by a challenging round on our 18 hole golf course. All visitors and guests are

Civil Wedding Ceremonies
Our licensed rooms are the Black Prince Suite that holds 120-140 or for the more intimate
affair, the Garden Room which holds 80 comfortably.
We provide displays of fresh flowers and you may like to choose your favourite music to create the setting you seek.
Between April and October, there will be a surcharge for Saturday Weddings & Civil Partnerships where the Reception meal is
for less than 80 people.
CIVIL PARTNERSHIPS
Marriages can be carried out through our civil wedding licence, or you could just enjoy our hospitality with a splendid
reception, with or without an evening party.
The hotel can offer you and your guests a choice of 27 en-suite, individually designed rooms to ensure that guests wishing to
drink during your reception do not have to drive afterwards.

Swimming Tuition Breaks
Learn to swim with Helen Massy, our fully qualified A.S.A swimming instructor.
The main aim of your tuition is to enable you to swim 10m on either your front or back and to be able to regain a standing
position after your swim. We are confident that you will receive an A.S.A 10m adult certificate at the end of your stay.
This enables you to combine a relaxing holiday in the heart of Cornwall with intensive swimming lessons during the duration
of your stay.
You may take full advantage of our on-site leisure facilities or dine in our restaurant for a delicious 3 course evening meal.
The package includes a four-night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. The rate is inclusive of 1 x 40 minute swim tuition per
day and any extra tuition on top of this will be charged as extra.

The Local Area
Lostwithiel Town was the capital of Cornwall and is the second oldest Borough Town in the
country.
Lostwithiel lies in the Fowey Valley. The ancient town boasts a 13th Century Castle built for the Duke of Cornwall. The Castle
is a favourite with visitors to the town which is steeped in history.
Lostwithiel has a number of Tea Rooms and Antique shops and a main line railway station which came through in 1859
designed by I. K. Brunel.
Other things to see and do include to view the Medieval buildings and bridge together with the ancient church and excellent
museum. Lostwithiel is surrounded by beautiful country side ideal for walking, biking and fishing. All parking is free in the
town.
The Lostwithiel Hotel, Golf and Country Club is located close to the Cornish towns of Bodmin, St. Austell and Liskeard, as well
as the havens of Fowey, Looe and Polperro.
The Eden Project is close by within 15 minutes by car.

The Local Area
ST. AUSTELL
St. Austell is a busy market town, built on the financial rewards from one of Cornwall’s traditional industries - china-clay. The
15th century Holy Trinity Church at the centre of the town is unusual for Cornwall with its finely decorated tower with sculptured
figures. The interior is also unusual, with a distinct bend in the axis of the church - definitely worth a visit.
The nearby Wheal Martyn China Clay and Country Park is a beautiful site with woodland walks and spectacular views. There is
a Historic Trail, Nature Trail, New Exhibitions and Cornwall’s largest Water Wheel - Ideal for family trips and day excursions.
St. Austell Brewery, Cornwall’s oldest independent family brewery, established over 140 years ago offers a range of guided
tours. Many original traditions and skills remain at the heart of the beers today. Follow the brewing process from raw ingredients
through to sampling the traditional ales.
BODMIN
This busy market town, situated on the western edge of Bodmin Moor, is the original county town of Cornwall.
The town’s history goes back to the sixth century, when St. Petroc came from nearby Padstow to establish a priory. Although the
priory no longer exists, the church of St. Petroc built in the fifteenth century is one of Cornwall’s largest parish churches. The
church contains an elaborately carved Norman font and 12th century ivory casket said to have held the bones of Petroc.
The old Bodmin Gaol still looms over the town and was once the scene of many public executions. The jail is now open to
members of the public and provides a fascinating insight into the world of historic crime and punishment - worth a visit if you’re
brave enough!

The Local Area
For railway enthusiasts, the Bodmin & Wenford Railway is a branch line steam railway connecting Bodmin Parkway to Bodmin
Town along the River Fowey Valley and Boscarne on the Camel Trail. The line operates a number of steam and diesel trains
along this route throughout the year.
Nearby Bodmin Moor is a granite moorland of outstanding beauty, overlooked by summits of Brown Willy, Cornwall’s highest
point, and Roughtor. There are a range of archeologically interesting sights to visit across the moor, as well as, the famous
Jamaica Inn featured in the works of Daphne du Maurier.
FOWEY
Fowey is an historic seafaring town close to St. Austell. Boasting a network of narrow streets climbing up and down the many
hills, the town was once home to the ‘Fowey Gallants’ a fierce band of Fowey seamen who raided the coast of France during
the Hundred-Year War.
Daphne du Maurier is closely associated with the town where you can visit the Du Maurier Literary Centre, hosting an exhibition
of the writer’s life and work.
St. Catherine’s Castle at nearby Ready-Money hosts a small gun fort built by Henry VIII as part of the chain of south-west
defences.

The Local Area
LOOE
Looe is split into two halves; East and West Looe, joined by a Victorian seven-arched bridge. The area is a holiday resort of
character, with several beaches, a bustling quayside and unique Banjo Pier. The town offers fantastic opportunities for bathing,
yachting, river and sea trips and shark fishing.
The Old Guildhall Museum inhabits a fifteenth century, building and displays relics of Looe’s history through the ages, as well
as the old magistrates bench and original cells.
Nearby attraction - Carnglaze Caverns
Set in six and a half acres of wooded hillside. Carnglaze Caverns consist of 3 slate, underground caverns that were hewn by
local miners. During the Second World War, the Royal Navy used the upper cavern to store rum, however today it is used as
an auditorium and concert venue.
You can also visit the Enchanted Dell, which is a limited edition of bronze faeries, mushrooms and a dragon.
There are many waterfalls and a spectacular 3 acre carpet of bluebells and other seasonal flowers to see. Dogs are welcome
on leads and there are also guided tours.

Fishing At Lostwithiel
The Lostwithiel Hotel, Golf and Country Club is lucky to have some of the finest fishing facilities
close to hand open to the public and available to guests staying at the hotel. We have two well
stocked lakes set in attractive surroundings at the centre of our golf course.
FAIRWAY LAKE - A large 2 acre lake set in attractive surroundings at the centre of our golf course. The lake is well stocked
with Common, Mirror, and Crucian Carp; Roach small to large, and good sized eels to 5lbs. Most fish will be 3 to 12lbs, but
there are some unidentified large fish, estimated over 18lbs, that have been there for years, but never caught - yet! There are
around 12 fishing points, safely away from golfers.
SWAN LAKE - This smaller lake makes a good change for regular fishermen. This lake is stocked with Crucian Carp, Roach
and Rudd. Occasional intruders arrive into the lake from the Fowey River via a connecting leat and become marooned there.
Both trout and salmon have been caught within the lake, however, the Environment Agency request that such catches are
returned to the river coarse where practical.
FISHING TIP - For carp try legering hair- rigged meat or corn. Surface fished crust, dog biscuits or pellets can be rewarding
when it’s warm. The Crucians, while very sizable, are finicky. Try for them with float fished bread, corn or at any time maggot,
fish close- in and use a delicate float. Roach and Rudd sport can be had on float fished maggot or caster, over loose feed. Try
for big eels on legered lobworms, use the biggest ones you can get hold of.
