The document is a speech given by PCSUPT FRANCISCO J VILLAROMAN, PESE at the Search for Mutya ng Tumauini beauty pageant on February 24, 2011. The speech discusses how beauty pageants originated from Greek mythology, where Prince Paris was asked to judge which goddess - Hera, Athena, or Aphrodite - was the most beautiful. GREETINGS
BEFORE TURNING THE SPOTLIGHTS ON, IT IS INTERESTING TO
KNOW HOW BEAUTY CONTESTS LIKE THIS ORIGINATED. LET US SEE WHAT LITERATURE SAYS. IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY, PARIS, A PRINCE OF TROY WAS ONCE ASKED TO JUDGE WHO AMONG THE THREE (3) OLYMPIAN GODDESSES HERA, ATHENA, AND APHRODITE POSSESSES THE ULTIMATE CHARM AND MOST ALLURING BEAUTY. EACH OF THE THREE GODDESSES WIELDED ALL HER MIGHT TO CONVINCE THE YOUNG PRINCE SHE MUST BE ADJUDGED THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ONE. AFTER THEIR VALUABLE EFFORTS, PRINCE PARIS FINALLY DECIDED THAT APHRODITE IS THE ONE WORTHY OF THE TITLE. THUS, IN LITERATURE, APHRODITE IS CLAIMED THE GODDESS OF WISDOM AND BEAUTY. TONIGHT WE STAND ON THE SAME GROUND WHERE PRINCE PARIS STOOD. WE ARE GATHERED HERE TO WITNESS THE BEAUTY AND PROWESS OF THE TWELVE (12) GORGEOUS CANDIDATES OF THIS YEARS SEARCH FOR THE MUTYA NG TUMAUINI. IN FEW MOMENTS, EACH OF THE CANDIDATES WILL EXHIBIT HER MERITS AS THE OLYMPIAN GODDESSES DID. WHO AMONG THESE CONTENDERS WILL WIN THE CROWN? WHO WILL BE ADJUDGED AS TONIGHTS APHRODITE?
TO THE CANDIDATES, BE REMINDED THAT THERE IS MORE
BEYOND THE CROWN THAT YOU ARE ASPIRING FOR. YOU MUST BEAR IN MIND THAT THIS IS NOT JUST A SHOW OF YOUR CHISELED BODIES. YOU ARE EXPECTED TO BE AN EPITOME OF A WOMAN WHO IS WORTHY OF EMULATION. TO WIN THE CROWN IS ANOTHER WAY OF SAYING THAT YOU ARENT JUST THE MOST ATTRACTIVE AND SKILLED ONE BUT ALSO A MODEL OF YOUR FELLOW. SUCH EXPECTATION IS TRUE TO EACH OF YOU. THIS OCCASION SOMEHOW MAKES ME FEEL HEARTRENDING FOR NOT ALL OF YOU WILL HAVE THE CROWN. NEVERTHELESS, BEING A CANDIDATE IS ALREADY A PROOF THAT YOU ARE FIT FOR IT. HOWEVER THOUGH, THERE IS ONLY ONE CROWN OUT THERE. IN ADVANCE, I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE EACH OF YOU. STANDING BEFORE THE CROWD IS NOT AS EASY AS ONE MAY THINK. TOUGH AS IT IS, YOU STILL POSSES THAT BRAVERY TO STAND TALL AND BEAUTIFUL. NOT TO SPEND TOO MUCH TIME FOR THE SUSPENSE, I NOW END UP THIS TALK WITH A REITERATION OF MY DEEPEST THANKS AND GRATITUDE TO THE PEOPLE OF TUMAUINI SPECIALLY THE HONORABLE MAYOR, WHO WAS NAMED AFTER THE
