It seemsthat drummers, more than any other instrumentalist, do the poorest iob when it comes to reading music. This is especiallyfrue of the dance drummer.

There are severalreasonswhv he has had trouble reading his

part. Firstof all, there are not enough exerciseson syncopation availablefor him to study.Secondly, many drummers have not

been taken progressivelyup to and through syncopation.lt was with this in mind that this book was written.

Suggestionson

how

to

practicethe following rhythms and

exercises.

l.

Count aloud. This is a "must" in order to become a good reaoer.

2.

Startwith the riqht stick and alternate.

3.

Practiceat various tempos from slow to fast.

4.

Devote some of

your practicetime to

playing with

the

melronome.

The help of a good ieacheris alwaysadvisable.

This book does not containany short roll studies. For these we recommend "STICK CONTROL"by George L. Sione.
