Laboratory Objectives
The objective of this laboratory is to extend the knowledge of chemical process dynamics, instrumentation
and control into practical work. The laboratory content will offer you the application of the fundamental
concepts and theory of the subjects as applied to the chemical engineering unit operations and everyday life.
COURSE SYNOPSIS:
This practical course requires several groups of 5 students perform experiments related to process
instrumentation, dynamics and control.
COURSE OUTCOME:
1.
2.
Apply appropriate sensors, instrumentation and/or computing tools to measure physical quantities.
Device suitable procedures and implement them in order to characterize dynamic and control
systems.
3. Analyze and interpret experimental data for writing and presenting technical reports.

You will carry out experiment sessions and group projects in the semester as per the attached schedule.
c)
In case of lab falls on the public holiday, lab will be replaced at other suitable time subjected to
availability (Friday slots are reserved for such events).
d)
In case of equipment breakdown, you will run another experiment in the following week. However,
cases below will apply:
If equipment breakdown is more than half of the experiment requirement, the student must
proceed with the available results.
If equipment breakdown less than half of the experiment requirement, the experiment must be
replaced with other available experiment/equipment.

Attendance
a)
b)
In case of absentees due to sickness, a Medical Certificate must be submitted to the Lab Coordinator.
c)
In the case of other commitment (student activities, family matters, etc) an authorization letter from the
relevant personnel is required.
d)
In case of emergency or any unavoidable circumstances when you cannot attend the lab session, you
are required to inform the Lab Coordinator prior to the event. This needs to be supported by a letter.
e)
Your lab session would not be replaced due to absenteeism. Therefore, you will not be graded for the
short report. (Except that a supporting document is given to the Lab Coordinator, the mark will be
exempted)
7.
Attire
a)
Properly attired. Wearing your lab coat is COMPULSORY. Other personal protective equipment
(PPE, such as goggles, safety helmet, ear plugs, ear muff, etc) will be provided.
b)
These clothing are not allowed in the laboratory: national costumes (baju kurung, cheongsam saree,
etc), jubah, skirts (short or long), sarongs, shorts, sandal, slippers and uncovered shoes) while
conducting experimental work. You are NOT ALLOWED to proceed with your laboratory work if
you fail to do that.
c)
For those who are wearing tudung or hijab, and with long hair, you are required to keep them neat.
d)
Besides the lab instructor, the lab technologists have the authority to ask you to leave the lab if you do
NOT ADHERE to the above regulations.
