NEW MEMBERS CLASSES

CONTINUES
Classes have already started, but its not
too late for those who are looking to join St.
Johns or simply have questions about
membership. There will be one more class
on October 16 in the Nazareth Room from
9:45-10:45 am. Bring a roll & coffee and
your questions to the Nazareth Room
(north hallway upstairs, last room on the
left). See you @ 9:45 AM!

Do you have a
favorite hymn
or 3?
As part of an effort
to help our Pastors
choose music we all
love for worship
services, please
note your 3 favorite
hymns on the back
side of todays Registration Slip.
We will try to get to every request, so look
up and list your favorites today!

Last chance to be a part

of the group to study the
layout (liturgy and
music) of the
Contemporary Worship
Service. What would
you like to see the
Contemporary Worship
look like? There are
only 2 spots left to fill in
this small group, so if you are interested in this
short-term study, please sign up on todays
Registration Slip. A first meeting time and date
will be set soon.

On Sunday, Dec.11,
we will celebrate 50
Years on the Hill with
a special worship
service at 10 AM and
showcase a
Celebration of
Wreaths made by
YOU, the individuals
and households of St.
Johns. Start thinking and assembling now
how would you be represented? Wreaths will
be displayed all of advent throughout St. Johns
and should not necessarily be a reflection of the
season. Contact Pr. Justin or Carol Waggoner
for more information.

Gods Work was going on at the Norfolk Food

Pantry in September. Volunteers of St. Johns
family with caring hearts, time, talents, food,
money and prayers gave our hands to pack
groceries for about 200 households. THANK YOU
to everyone for your dedicated services. You are
appreciated by many people!
Shirley Frowick
Food Pantry Coordinator
(And St. Johns special thanks to Shirley for her
many hours organizing, calling volunteers, and
gathering groceries for the pantry. St. Johns
volunteers rock!)

BE SURE TO PICK UP A DEVOTIONAL PAGE

TO SUBMIT FOR THE STEWARDSHIP
BOOKLET. DEADLINE: MUST BE IN THE
OFFICE BY OCTOBER 20! Pages are

COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS
September, 2016

We will be updating our military wall

which is located off the Narthex to the
east. If you have loved ones currently
serving in the military, please send a
photo to the church office so that we
may include them in our thoughts and
prayers. Email your photos to
midgehe@cableone.net.

Harriett Weber has moved. Her new address is

c/o Community Pride Care Center, 901 S. 4th St.,
Room 307, Battle Creek, NE 68715.
Lee Stingley can now be found at Heritage of Bel
Air, 1203 N. 13th St., Room 113, Norfolk, NE
68701.

At the St. Johns September Council meeting,

two changes were discussed to the church
constitution that will be presented to the
congregation at the annual meeting
Several church leaders and Pastor David are
drafting bylaws for a proposed Legacy Fund. The
fund is being presented to provide additional
funding for congregation operation and ministries
into the future. A task force was also appointed to
make changes in the constitution that are required by
decisions made at the 2016 ELCA Churchwide
Assembly.
Both committees will forward their
recommendations to the council for approval and
will then be voted on at the annual meeting in
January. Watch for more information on these two
initiatives.
The council heard reports on the new youth
group and its accompanying parent group; the
October Get Together; results of Folks & Forks
campus ministry event; and a wrap up of Gods
Work Our Hands Sunday.
A complete copy of the minutes is available
outside the church office or by mailing or emailing
the church office.
