PILE-1 APPLICATION

1. INTRODUCTION
foundationPro was developed to promote education of foundation engineering in civil engineering and
construction. Currently, foundationPro version 1 consists of six projects/applications in the

shallow foundation, pile foundation, drilled shaft foundation, and retaining wall foundation
areas. The projects/applications are listed as follows:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Shallow-1: Shallow Foundation on Homogeneous Soil

Pile-1: Axial Capacity of Single Pile in Soil project
Pile-2: Axial Capacity of Single Pile in Rock
Shaft-1: Axial Capacity of Drilled Shaft in Soil
Shaft-2: Axial Capacity of Drilled Shaft in Rock
MSE Wall-1: Mechanically Stabilized Earth Wall with Reinforcing Strips

2. TERMS OF USE
foundationPro can be used on any Microsoft Windows operated system (Microsoft Windows 95 or later).
The program can be freely installed and used with no restrictions or limitations.

3. QUICK START
3.1. FOUNDATIONPRO OVERVIEW
After installing the foundationPro and clicking on the program icon which can be found on the desktop or
main menu>programs; the following Main Screen of foundationPro software will pop up:

Below is the main Toolbox (F3 to show the Toolbox if not loaded) of foundationPro which can be used to
launch any of the foundationPro projects/applications:

Details of Toolbox:

Shallow-1 Application: Shallow Foundation on homogeneous soil

Pile-1 Application: Axial Capacity of Single Pile in Soil

Pile-2 Application: Axial Capacity of Single Pile in Rock

Shaft-1 Application: Axial Capacity of Drilled Shaft in Soil

Shaft-2 Application: Axial Capacity of Drilled Shaft in Rock

MSE Wall-1 Application: Mechanically Stabilized Earth Wall with Reinforcing Strips

3.2. PROJECTS/APPLICATIONS OVERVIEW

In any of the foundationPro projects/applications, the user should go through three main stages:
Stage 1 Create Input File (data input) which can be completed through the user-friendly interface
wizard.
Stage 2 Checking the input, Saving Input File, and Running the Analysis
Stage 3 Viewing the output results and charts

Also, the following toolbox is available for the user in any of the foundationPro projects/applications:

Details and shortcut keys of the toolbox:

Create New File (Ctrl + N)

Open Saved File (Ctrl + O)

Save (Ctrl + S)

Previous Tab (F7)

Next Tab (F6)

Run Analysis (F5)

Send to Excel (Ctrl + X)

Chart Settings (F2)

Copy chart (Ctrl + C)

Print (Ctrl + P)

Help (F1)

Exit

4. Pile-1 Application: Axial Capacity of Single Pile in Soil

Click this icon

from the main Toolbox to open the Pile foundation application

The following screen will pop up which consists of a toolbox and several tabs:

Stage 2 Checking the input, Saving Input File, and Running the Analysis
Click
icon from the toolbox to save the file. The program will give the file .FPR extension.
Before saving the file, the program will check the input and will not save until all the input data
are correct. The program will give warning message if any of the fields are incorrect so that the
use can easily correct it.

Click
on the toolbox to Run Analysis or F5. The program will perform the analysis and will
enable the OUTPUT tab to view the output results.

Stage 3 Viewing the output results and charts

Now you can view the output results in the OUTPUT tab

The user can view the results from the two tabs on the bottom of the Screen (OUTPUT tab)

Click on RESULTS tab

The user can view the results and send all results to Microsoft Excel by Clicking on view on main menu
or toolbox or Right click on table or use the shortcut key (Ctrl + X)

Click on CHARTS tab

Select type of Design Chart

Click
icon or Right click on chart gives same Option to copy chart and paste it in any
