According to Emma, young people today dont

expected to be together for the rest of our lives. People
rarely got divorced then there was a real stigma
about it. Of course, weve had arguments over the
years, but weve always made up.
Whats the secret of a happy marriage?
A bit of give and take. You have to remember that life
isnt always a bed of roses. I think that young people
expect too much. Once theyve fallen in love with
someone, they think nothing else matters. You need a
healthy dose of realism, too. Do you think Fred and I
havent fancied other people? Its human nature. But
weve always believed in the vows we made to each
other on our wedding day and respected each other.
What else is different now?
When I started going out with Fred, we never
considered cohabiting before the wedding. It just wasnt
acceptable. Now, couples that get married have often
lived together for a few years. They know each other
really well, so the wedding ceremony isnt as special.

Writing
