What is a Service Zone?

A Service Zone is a logical network partition for wired and wireless networks
that functions like a virtual controller. Each WHG controller can support up to
9 different service zones.
Attributes of a Service Zone:


Consistent Access Control including authentication method and

control policy; applied to users within the Service Zone

Custom Login & Logout pages can be customized for each

individual Service Zone

Each Service Zone has its

own Groups and Policies
profile
Each Service Zone is associated
with a unique VLAN ID and
SSID

Port-Based and Tag-Based Mapping

2 methods of Service Zone differentiation:



Tag-based

In tag-based mode, Service Zone differentiation is based on Room VLANs.

Many-to-one mapping of Room VLANs to Service Zone VLANs

Each LAN port can serve traffic from any Service Zone

E.g.:

Port-based

In port-based mode, Service Zone differentiation is based on physical ports
on the Controller. Each LAN port can only serve traffic from one Service
Zone.

Tag-Based Mapping

Hotel rooms are mapped to unique VLAN IDs (one-to-one mapping) and
then associated with Service Zones (many-to-one mapping)
Each Service Zone has its own Groups and Policies profile

A Service Zone is uniquely defined by a VLAN tag and an associated

SSID attribute.
