Identify and Categorise Internal Hardware

Components
VGA Connector

Name: Video Graphics Array

Connector
Category: Peripheral Connector
Description: This connector is
found on videos cards. It
commonly uses a 15-pin setup to
connect the VGA cable to the
connector, and two screws on
either side to hold the cable in
place.
Function: The VGA Connector is
used to connect a computer to an output device. These include, but
are not limited to, monitors, projectors and printers.

HDMI Connector
Name: High-Definition Multimedia Interface
Category: Peripheral Connector
Description: This connector is found on
video and audio cards. It uses 19 pins to
make the connection as clean and
secure as possible, but unlike its
predecessor, the VGA Connector, it does
not have screws for the cable to fasten it
to the port.
Function: The HDMI Connector is used
to transfer high-quality, uncompressed
video and audio data to a compatible
output device, such as a digital TV,
sound system or projector. The
combination of the audio and visual
components renders the need for additional cables to connect
speakers obsolete.

Case Fan

Name: Case Fan

Category: Cooling
Description: The case fan is a set
of small pieces of shaped plastic set
onto a rotor at an angle and spun at
high speeds. It is housed in a square
housing and cover with metal
grating to avoid injury
Function: The Case Fan has the
simple job of drawing heat away
from the other internal hardware components of the computer, as
heat can easily damage many of the components if the temperature
becomes too high.

Hard Disk Drive

Name: Hard Disk Drive
Category: Data Storage
Description: The HDD with all its casing on looks like a box.
Without its casing, it has a magnetic disk called a platter, and an
actuator. It also has the appropriate interface connectors to connect
to the motherboard
Function: The HDD stores
memory by writing to the
platter. The platter spins at
high speeds, while an
actuator writes the
information onto the surface
of the platter by changing the
direction of magnetisation on
the ferromagnetic material
on the platters surface to
represent the binary data bits.

TV Tuner Card
Name: TV Tuner Card

Category: Video Capturing

Description: The TV Tuner Card
looks like a circuit board, covered
with small chips and terminates in a
connector that allows it to be
connected directly into a computers
expansion slots.
Function: The TV Tuner Cards job
is to convert analog TV signals into digital signals, which can be
then played through the computer. It can also be used to record
these signals, and convert them later for better quality audio and
video.
