Bullying is a serious problems in homes, school, and communities.

Bullying is not
only a problem for youth but is one that spans all ages. According to (Olweus, 1993),
bullying occurs when a person is exposed, repeatedly and overtime, to the negative
actions on the part of one or more other person. Besides, bullying can take in many
forms for instance, hitting and destroying someones properties and making rude hand
gestures. Therefore, the negative impact of bullying are bullies cannot regulate their
emotions with other people and the peer pressure from the surrounding.
First and foremost, the causes of bully is that the bullies cannot control their
emotions within themselves. When teenagers do not have ability to control their
emotions, small annoyances can provoke them and cause them to severely overreact.
For example, a child may be innocently walking down the hall and accidently bumped
into a bully. Even though the children had apologized, the bully may lose his temper.
Statistics from National Alliance on Mental Health (2010), shows that about 80% of
youth that commits suicide are from bullying. Hence, bullying cases should not be
underestimated. We, as society must be alert and concern by spreading widely our love
and care so that bullies and victims would think twice before taking any unrelevant and
solemn actions (Einarsen & Raknes, 1997).
Peer pressure was also one of the causes of bully. Peer pressure was pressure
from others to conform to the behaviors, attitudes and personal habits of a group or
clique. Sometimes, kids within a clique will pressure other kids to participate in bullying.
Typically, when kids cave in under peer pressure, it is because they want to be liked or fit
in. They fear that if they do not go along with the group or clique, then other kids might
make fun of them. Additionally, some kids accept the idea that everyones doing it and
often mistakenly feel less responsibility for bullying when it is done as a group. With this
type of pack mentality, kids often leave their better judgement and common sense
behind. Thus, they do not feel as much remorse as they would otherwise (Menesini ,
2000).
In conclusion, bullying is a socially unacceptable behavior. The main risk factors
include cannot control their emotion and peer pressure. Despite both these risk factors,
the effects of bullying outweigh the benefits of bullying. It is also important to understand

that the statistics provided above may not be reliable because there are cases in which
bullying incidences are not reported or under reported. So the parents and teachers
need to be aware of bullying, and monitor the attitude of children in their care
accordingly (Banks, 2013).
