1. Are there any students that you are concerned about?

After examining all of the data from the chart, there is one
student that stands out as a student to be concerned with. Goyle has
performed substantially below his peers and was not able to achieve
the full points on almost all of the assignments. Goyle only had a total
score of 45 out of 100 possible points by the end of the unit. This
strikes me to be concerned, because he scored below a 50, while the
other students were in the 70 or higher range.
One thing that I can do to help Goyle is to write a note home
addressing the homework issue. Through the data it is evident that
Goyle either did not know how to do the homework or just chose not to
do it. I believe this is the true problem, because he received zero points
on multiple worksheets. I also believe that maybe his parents or
guardian were unaware that he had homework due to his lack of doing
it. Writing a note home would allow someone to notice this behavior of
not completing homework and it might encourage someone to stay on
top of him so he completes his assignments. Another thing that I would
do for Goyle is to pull him aside for additional instruction. Pulling Goyle
aside for one-on-one time would allow me to find exactly where he is
struggling. If Goyle is struggling and simply not being lazy then I can
provided the support he needs in the area the he is struggling with by
giving him additional resources for him to work on. These additional

resources will help him to further these skills and to receive better
grades.

The highest achiever in the class is Cho. The total score that she
received was 96 out of 100. Cho almost received full points on every
assignment. Most people overlook the students who make higher
marks, but it is important to make sure each student is being
challenged. In this case some of the assignments almost looked too
easy for her since she was receiving full credit. One thing that I would
do for Cho is find additional resources that will challenge her in new
ways. This stuff will not be graded, but it would further expand and
challenge her mind so that she is not feeling bored with the work that
she is given.

2. Are there any assignments that you are concerned about?

After reviewing each of the assignments given in the chart there
are some assignments that should be changed or deleted completely.
These assignments need to be looked at, because they are either too
difficult or too easy.
The assignment Homework Data Collection appears to be too
simple for a majority of the students. All of the students except for one
received full credit on this assignment. The student that did not receive
full marks got a 0 out of 5 for lack of completion. After looking at all of

the assignments overall this one appeared to be the easiest and did
not challenge the students.
The assignment Review Game seemed to be too difficult for
the students as none of them received full credit for this assignment.
The highest score was a 9 out of 10 followed by an 8 out of 10, 7 out of
10, 6 out of 10, and 5 out of 10. This indicates that the assignment was
difficult for all of them and that they are not ready for the test that
would be at the end of this unit. Since this assignment was a review I
would reconsider making an additional review that will help them on
the end of unit assessment. The students seemed under prepared for
the end of unit assessment.

3. How will you change your instruction based on this data?

After reviewing the data it seems that the review game was too
difficult for the students. In order to assist the students in achieving
higher marks I would change my instruction by concentrating on
reviewing what we learned the day before for five minutes, before we
continue onto the next part of the unit. By reviewing each topic each
day for five minutes throughout the unit students will be able to fully
comprehend each topic. This will also let the students have the
opportunity to review the information in smaller sections so that they
are not overwhelmed with the whole unit review.

Another thing that I would do is to refrain from completing

assignments in groups. I noticed that on the assignment Group
Survey Project that the students who do not normally score high on
assignments got a very high grade. After analyzing the data I was able
to figure this out. I believe that some of the students may be relying on
their peers to complete the assignment. This will only hurt the
struggling student in the long run. Group work also provides the
teachers with false information related to the students comprehension
of the task if it looks like they did well, but relied on their partner to do
everything.
