Weekly Newsletter
Reading and Writing
We will take the reading test on
Wednesday/Thursday this week. Students
should review the vocabulary words to
prepare. Reading Records are due on Friday.
In writing, students will discuss the key ideas
of two mentor texts to come to a better
understanding of how writers work and to see
the importance of a Writers Notebook. They
will also learn how they can use their
notebooks to record what they see, hear, and
feel in the world around them. They will then
use their sketches or notes as ideas for their
writing.

Science
There will be a pop quiz on the lesson 2
vocabulary this week. Please make sure your
child practices his/her vocabulary words every
night. We hope to finish the lesson by the end
of the week. The quiz will be given on Friday
if we are ready. If not, it is tentatively
planned for next Tuesday.

Social Studies
Please make sure your child uses his/her world map
study guide to prepare for our practice map quiz on
Thursday. Students will have to label the seven
continents and five oceans. (The Pacific Ocean must be
written in two places.) Students will be given the names
of the continents and the oceans. They just need to
take their time to spell and capitalize the names
correctly. Any student who earns 100% on the practice
quiz will not have to take the final quiz next week.

Math
We will find 1,000; 10,000; and 100,000 more
and less than a given number. We will take a
quiz on lessons 5 and 6 by the end of this week
or the beginning of next week. A review will be
provided. Math Logs are due on Friday.

Spelling and English

Spelling: This weeks words are words with the long i
vowel sound. Students can practice this weeks words on
spellingcity.com. You can find our list at
www.spellingcity.com/kregan1/ or you can go to our class
website, regan109.weebly.com. On the class website,
you will find a link to Spelling City under Resources.
Students do not have to log in. They can just scroll to
the bottom of the page and click on the story: The
Astronaut and the Onion.
English: We will continue to practice identifying the
simple subject in sentences. The simple subject is the
main word in the complete subject. It tells exactly who
or what the sentence is about. We will then work on
identifying the simple predicate in sentences. The
simple predicate is the main word in the complete
predicate. It is the verb.
