from a long ways to try their luck as have a lot of other

anglers or rather, snaggers.

Sight em in Saturday

Local organizations are teaming up to provide a

public sight-in day at the Valley County Rifle and
Pistol Club (VCRPC) shooting range starting at 1
p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15. All hunting-aged folks are
welcome, and youth under 18 years of age need to be
accompanied by an adult. The event is free of charge.
Members of the VCRPC, Hi-Line Sportsmen, and
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will be on-hand to
offer assistance, advice, and encouragement for both
youth and adults to properly and safely sight-in their
firearms. FWP will be providing hearing and eye
protection, along with targets, but the public is also
encouraged to bring their own equipment if they desire.
No shotguns are allowed at the event.
The Hi-Line Sportsmen will be providing hot
dogs, chips and water, with a free-will donation for the
meal. Hi-Line Sportsmen will also be selling t-shirts
and providing raffle tickets for a gun and gun cabinet.
While at the event, folks are encouraged to learn more
about both the Hi-Line Sportsmen and the VCRPC, as
new members are always welcome.
The location for the sight-in day is at the VCRPC
range north of Glasgow: Drive two miles north from
Glasgow on Highway 24 North, turn west (left) on
Johnson Road, and proceed west 1.5 miles to the
club gate. Go through the gate and follow signs for
approximately one mile to the range.
Please call Hi-line Sportsmen President Jennifer
Jackson at 406-263-7339 if there are any questions.
The public is asked to make sure that all firearms are in
good, safe working order, and matched with the correct
ammunition that will be used during the hunting
season.

OBITUARY

Betty Hansen
Elizabeth Anne Betty
Hansen, age 92, was a dear wife,
mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, aunt and friend
who passed away on Thursday,
October 6, 2016 at Frances
Mahon Deaconess Hospital in
Glasgow, MT.
Betty was born on October
11, 1923 in North Tonawanda,
NY, near Niagara Falls, youngest of six children. She met her
future husband, Magnus, when she was 15 years old and they
married soon after her 18th birthday on October 25, 1941.
Magnus brother was married to Bettys sister and they developed
a friendship first and a loving relationship which lasted for more
than 70 years before Magnus passing in 2012.

They moved to Oyster Bay, NY soon after their marriage and
eventually to Bayville, NY where they built the house they lived in
for over 50 years before moving to St. Marie, MT in 2002.
Betty loved her family and recounted stories of their
accomplishments and achievements as well as carrying
around her Grandmas Brag Booklet of photos. Her first and
most important job was as a wife and mother and she took
her responsibilities to heart. She was the class mother for her
daughters when they were little, a Girl Scout Leader, Garden
Club participant and Senior Citizen Club officer when she
resided in New York. She worked as a bookkeeper for 18 years
at Gristedes Supermarkets in New York. She loved to sew and
bake and made jelly from the fruit trees in her yard. While her
movements in her later years were not as active as when younger,
she was a devout Catholic and said her rosary daily.
She was preceded in death by her husband Magnus,
her sisters Helen Waild, Ethel Maines, Marion Peabody, and
brothers, Reginald Pineo, and Austin Pineo.
She is survived by her four daughters, Sandra Alexander,
Diana Hansen, Linda (John) Fiorillo and Nilla Hansen;
grandchildren John Watson, James (Lori) Watson, Kathryn
(John) McCarthy, Richard Townsend, Brian (Cheryl) Townsend,
David (Yo) Brown, and Steven (Daniela) Fiorillo; and greatgranddaughters Brittany Watson, Sydney Watson and Brianna
Townsend.
A visitation will be on Friday, October 14th, 2016 with
family receiving friends from 4:00-6:00 PM. Services will be held
on Saturday, October 15th, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Raphaels
Catholic Church in Glasgow, Montana, with burial at Highland
Cemetery in Glasgow, Montana following services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the
Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in her name. Donations
should be sent to FMD Hospital Foundation, 621 3rd Street
South, Glasgow, MT 59230.

Fish on!

Just a short
drive away from
the Fort Peck
Marina where
these Chinooks
were snagged is
the fish cleaning
station a
very busy place
these days
(and rather
smelly, not in
a good way).
The snaggers
at right are from
Billings and took
home hundreds
of pounds of
salmon fillets to
be smoked and
canned. Its
been a blast,
they were all in
agreement.

As the Captain on the Montana Outdoor Radio Show said a few weeks back, theyve
got Black Jaw Fever, and it has continued even through the snagging season as
salmon snaggers we talked to on a very brisk Saturday had them coming in from
as far as Glendive, Great Falls, Billings, Townsend, Watford City, North Dakota and
Sheridan, Wyoming. Its quite the sport and everyone is willing to help each other out.
Pictured above, it was about a fifteen-minute-pole-bending-tug-o-war before getting
this male Chinook salmon landed ( at left you can see the milt pouring out of it).
