I learnt through trainers and the module that childrens literature must be

suitable to the children. The genres are poetry, short stories and graphic novel.
Children are able to access, understand and enjoy it through guidance. It usually
relates the world with the good and the bad, the moral in the world. I also know
that the word contemporary in the childrens literature means present time. The
content provided in the literature relevant to the current situation. Readers
Response Approach give me an idea on how to teach Contemporary Childrens
Literature. It is the way that makes pupils feel connected to the story. The
children can relate the text to their daily life.
The lesson plan our group design focused on Poetry entitle Watching a Bumble
Bee. The module guidelines on activity 4 help me to understand better on how to
make the lesson plan for literature. We focus on poetry. The 3ps stages are
presentation, practise and production. The presentation stage is to introduce
pupils to the context. The content is familiar to pupils in their daily life. They
have prior knowledge relate to Bumble bee. It is scaffolding. In our lesson plan
we showed video of Bumble bee. The second stage is practise. This stage we let
the pupils have the opportunity to practise. Pupils recite the poem first and then
guide pupils to recite it with correct stress, pronunciation and intonation. The
third stage is production. In this stage pupils are more independent in carry out
the task given with minimal help from the teacher, for example pupils recite the
poem according to the tune of their favourite song.
The microteaching from the other CPs was good. I could adopt and adapt their
idea during the production stage that used mask which pupils make and
decorate themselves. The pupils in their group wear the mask and do the
performance according to their poem with gestures. Other group watch and
assess the performance. They will assess one another. The assessment tool was
checklist. The sentences were simple and the instruction was clear. This activity I
can carry out with my pupils.
