2. Connect your wireless router to a power source. Wait about a minute, and then
continue to the next step.
3. Click the network icon in the notification area; the icon should look like a series of
vertical bars, or a tiny PC with a network adapter alongside it.
4. Select your WIRELESS network from the list of AVAILABLE networks to complete
the setup process. By default, your network name will be the name of your router
manufacturer.
Although newer routers connected to Windows 7 PCs are generally simple to set up,
some problematic wireless routers might require a little more attention. If you cant
set up your wireless router as explained above, follow the directions included with it.
Chances are, you'll need to use one of the following two strategies.
2. On your PC, insert the disc that came with your router, or download and run the
latest version of the router's software from the vendor website.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions. The setup routine will ask you to connect
components (including your modem and PC) in a certain ORDER, and it may request
that you temporarily connect your wireless router to a computer via an ethernet
cable. You will also create a wireless network name and password at this point. If
something goes wrong, you may want to consider manually configuring your
wireless router.
2. Connect the wireless router to a power source. Wait about a minute to ensure
that your router is fully operational.
4. Log in to your routers Web interface by opening a browser and entering the IP
address of your router into the address bar. The IP address should be listed within
your routers documentation; if you can't find it, most routers use a common IP
address such as http://192.168.1.1, http://192.168.0.1, or http://192.168.2.1.
5. Enter the default username and password, which you should find within your
routers documentation. Alternatively, visit Port Forwards Default Router Passwords
page.
7. Disconnect your COMPUTER from the wireless router and then reconnect
wirelessly. Finally, check out our router tips to speed up your wireless connection.

QUICK TIP: To reconfigure a previously used router, reset the router to factory defaults. To do this,
press and hold the Reset button of your router for 10 seconds. The reset button is usually located at
the back of the router.
Verifying that Internet connection is active
Connect theCOMPUTER to the Cable modem using an Ethernet cable. If your computer is getting
Internet connection, you may proceed to the next step. Otherwise, contact your ISP.
NOTE: Some Cable modems have their USB ports configured by the ISP to give yourCOMPUTER
the Internet connection. If the physical connection is through a USB port, you will not be able to
go online using an Ethernet connection. Contact your ISP to have the Ethernet port of the modem
configured.
Step 2:
Connect a COMPUTER to any of the numbered ports (1, 2, 3 or 4). If you are using a WIRELESS
computer, you will need to connect it first with an Ethernet cable.
NOTE: In this example, a computer is connected to port number 2.
Step 3:
Connect the power adapter of your router to the power outlet.
Step 2:
You will then be asked for your login details. Leave the User name field blank and enter admin on
the Password field then click OK.
NOTE: If you have received an error message after typing your routers password, this means that
the password entered is incorrect. Try accessing the routers web-based setup page again and
enter the correct password. If you lost or forgot your router's password, click here to know the steps
on how to reset the router to factory settings.
Step 3:
On the Setup tab, click MAC Address Clone.
NOTE: A Media Access Control (MAC) address is a unique identifier pre-assigned to the network
adapter of theCOMPUTER . This is used by most Cable ISPs for authentication so subscribers can
establish Internet connection.
Therefore, to set up your Linksys router to work with your ISP, you have to enable the MAC Address
Clone feature. This will allow your ISP to recognize the router as theCOMPUTER with the
registered MAC address.
Step 4:
Select Enabled then click on Clone My PCs MAC.
Step 5:
Click
Step 2:
Check the Internet IP Address. If it has numbers, this means the router has been properly
configured. If the Internet IP Address values are showing up 0.0.0.0, click on Release IP
Address then the Renew IP Address buttons.
NOTE: For Wireless-B and Wireless-G routers, click on the DHCP Release and DHCP
Renew buttons.
You should now be able to access the Internet. If not, powercycle the modem, the router then
theCOMPUTER .
IMPORTANT: Powercycling the cable modem should be done with caution. Most Cable modems
are bundled with Cable TV and phone connection. Some Cable modems also have backup batteries
that may prevent it from being powered OFF even if the power adapter is detached from it. Refer to
your ISP for detailed instructions on powercycling the modem.
To perform the powercycle process:
Step 1:
Power OFF the modem.
Step 2:
While the modem is OFF, unplug the power adapter from the router and shutdown your COMPUTER
.
Step 3:
Power ON the modem and wait for its lights to go steady.
Step 4:
Power ON the router, then wait for its lights to go steady, then turn ON the computer.
Your Internet connection should now be active. If youre still unable to go online, contact your ISP to
reconfigure the modem.

4. How To Setup A Wi Fi Repeater
Wi-fi repeaters receive the radio signals sent from your wireless router and broadcasts them to
computers in a local setup. Repeaters can even boost signals weakened by walls and other
obstructions. Power supplied to the repeater allows the devices to amplify the signal and
rebroadcast it--expanding the range of your network. Use the steps in this guide to set up your
repeater.
Ethernet cable
Installation CD
STEP 1
Begin by testing your router. Verify that it is broadcasting a healthy signal--if there are problems
here then there will be problems at the repeater.
STEP 2
Connect the power adpater into the repeater--insert the pin head into the repeater and the plug
into a wall outlet. Plug the ethernet cable into the ethernet port near the power port on the back of
the repeater. Plug the other end of the ethernet cable into an open ethernet port on the wireless
router.
STEP 3
Turn on the repeater and insert the product's installation disk into the computer. Follow the
prompts on the screen. Installation procedures vary between manufactures. Consult your manual
for specific instructions on the software installation. After completion, disconnect the repeater-both power and ethernet cable.
STEP 4
Position the access point at the halfway point between your router and the computer that is
furthest away from the signal. The repeater will only double the range of the original signal, so
keep all of your computers in its range. Connect the power cable and power the repeater on. You
should receive confirmation of a signal with a lit up "WLAN" light.
STEP 5
Use a wireless device to test your network's connection. You may need your network key--your
networks alphanumeric password--to connect to the network. Open a web browser and attempt to
surf.
