SAMPLE ESSAY 1

The long winding narrow road made me felt so sick. Terribly sick! I really
hated the journey up the mountain. Fortunately, my dad enjoyed driving. Yet the
moment my dad announced We have arrived! I changed my opinion. I fell in love
with Cameron Highland's breathtaking view and temperate climate.
A visit to the strawberry park was an unforgettable one. My mum bought a
packet of strawberries sprinkled with sugar. Being skeptical, my dad refused to eat
them. He said he preferred to have them without sugar. So, he bought two packets
of strawberries and gobbled them all. Mum warned dad Your tongue will surely get
sore!
Half an hour later, while mum was immersed in the sweet scents of roses
grown proudly on the hilly areas of Brinchang, dad secretly asked for some sweets
from my little brother. Another spot I enjoyed visiting was the tea plantation. It was
fascinating to witness the workers plucking the tea leaves at such a fast speed. I felt
so small when I stood among the tea trees.
The stay at Merlin Hotel was great. The room was large and comfortable.
What I like most was the view from the balcony. I could see the large golf field
framed by the natural landscape of tall trees and small thick tropical ferns. On top
of that, the rental was reasonable and affordable. Mum took the opportunity to do
facial and went for a spa massage at the beauty salon. Meanwhile dad tried to get
some naps. My brother made some cute poses while I took charge as the camera
girl.
On the way home down the highland, mum made dad stopped at a few
places. The boot of the car was filled with vegetables, strawberries, oranges and
lots of roses. When questioned on her lavish spending, she answered They are all
for your mum, aunties and sisters. If mum loves Cameron Highland so much, I love
it even more. One day, I will definitely go there again. Cameron Highland is indeed
my favourite holiday resort.

SAMPLE ESSAY 2
I remember so well when I had my most embarrassing moment. It is that
moment in time when you wish the earth would open up and swallow you. The
anxiety and discomfort felt during that time, which may only last a few seconds
feels like time has stood still. I was in Form 4 and it was during the school recess.
The minute the bell rang for recess, I rushed to the toilet because I had been
controlling my urges since class started. Without realising, I had rushed to the girls
toilet.
The prolonged control and an upset stomach made worse by two glasses of
cold milk in the morning made me grunt and groan in what I thought in what I
thought was the privacy of the cubicle. I thought I heard giggling outside and
wondered why the giggles sounded unusually near. A few minutes later I came out
the cubicle and discovered my horror that I had entered the girls toilet. To make
matters worse, the few girls standing outside didnt even turn away when I came
out. Instead, they looked down at me, then only they turned quickly away. Horror of
horrors, I had forgotten to zip up! No beetroot could have matched the colour of my
face at this point in time!
They news of my predicament spread like wildfire throughout the school. I
was truly the talk of the town. I felt like I could either walk around feeling
perpetually self-conscious and embarrassed or I could turn the situation round,
perhaps even to my advantage. I remembered my mothers words that if you cant
beat them, join them. So I decided to make fun of myself, to laugh at myself too. It
works. Everyone got bored after a while and nobody teased me after that.
It was indeed an eye-opening experience for me. I have learned that when
people laugh at you, you should laugh along. You must not take yourself seriously.
Learn to look at yourself through other peoples eyes and you will realise that most
of the time when they laugh at you, they just want to have some fun. They mean no
harm. If you can make people laugh, its like bringing sunshine into their lives and
as someone said, those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it
from themselves.

SAMPLE ESSAY 3
Living in a serene village near the paddy field was a real treasure for me as
its tranquility and refreshing atmosphere was a really perfect getaway whenever my
head was on the verge with all of the schools works and pressures. For me,
spending a weekend at my grandparents village is equally unbearable, what with
mothers nagging and fathers complaints. That is why every weekend I long to go
to my grandparents village.
After my father's departure, my grandmother invited me to have lunch with
her. She told me that she has cooked all my favourite dishes. As I stepped into the
house, the aroma of sambal belacan was making my mouth water. I quickly
washed my hand and sat at the dining table ready to eat, but sadly I had to wait for
my grandparents to join me as well. The dishes served on the dining table were a
variety of kampung food such as sambal belacan, ulam-ulaman, salted fish,
salted eggs and my favourite dishes which were masak lemak cili api. As soon as
my grandparents sat at the table, we said our prayers and we started to eat. I was
eating greedily and almost choked on my food
In the evening, I was sitting on the entrance stairs watching the sun set. It
was very peaceful and I felt like I have escaped from the hustle and bustle of the
city. At night, we performed our maghrib and isyak prayers together. While my
grandparents were watching television, I found myself sitting on the porch and
admiring the pitch black sky that lit up the moon and stars. I heard the crickets
cricketing in my grandfather paddy field. It gave me a peace of mind.
The next morning, I was awakened by my grandmother at six in the morning.
I wanted to follow my grandfather to the paddy field. I was supposed to help my
grandfather harvest the paddy. At first, I felt ticklish and uncomfortable and realized
that there were leeches all over my feet. I started hopping all over the paddy field. It
was burning hot by 9 am and I was sweating. My clothes were sticking to my skin
and it felt weird, but it was a fun experience. My holiday at my grandparents village
was the best experience I've ever had and it becomes better each time I visit my
grandparents village.

SAMPLE ESSAY 4
No guts, no glory. No pain, no gain. Those are my life mottos. I feel that nothing can be
achieved by simply sitting and doing absolutely nothing to make dreams come true. Life can be
so hard, especially when you are not born with a silver spoon in your mouth. It is also the time
when true friends are hard to come by just because you do not much money to treat them at
Kentucky Fried Chicken or Burger King. That is something that I have experienced ever since
my family moves to this metropolitan city and my study in the new school.
In my new school I study hard to complete with all my fellow classmates who come from
all walks of life but most are from rich backgrounds. They have all that I have ever wanted in
my life but fail to get. They can buy branded shoes and clothes, unlike my worn out Bata. There
is nothing I could do to be on par with them. So, I just let them show off their fancy gadgets
without feeling remorse with the fact that I am only an ordinary student coming from a family
clerk. I just feel sad that they act as if I do not have feelings. I do not feel the least discourage
since I know that I can also be like them one day if I work hard enough to score in my SPM
exam.
Day after day, night after night, I do not to do anything else but concentrate on my
studies. Spm examination is just around the corner and I have no other wish apart from
wanting to pass Spm with Flying colours. My parents are my inspirations. They always remind
me to work hard and change our fate, make them proud as well as proven to everybody that a
son of a plain clerk can also succeed in life and deserve some respect. At times, I feel so
stressed out that I almost give up and cry. Nevertheless, thinking of my parent's hope and
wishes, I would never surrender and that is my final decision. I engage myself in group
discussion, have consultations with my teachers, as well as burn as much midnight oil as
possible to attain my ultimate goal 10A+ in the exam.
The most awaited moment has arrived. With prayers and good luck wishes from my
father and mother, I step into my examination hall with full awareness that I have to do really
well in the exam to realize all my parent's dreams even though I felt butterflies in stomach.

The torturous moments last for three weeks and as far as I am concerned time really flies, but I
trust myself that I have given my very best for each paper.
March 2015 comes I heard on the television that the SPM 2014 result will be out today.
With anticipation and nervousness I walked to school with my good friend Dolah. I cannot
imagine getting less than 8A+ because according to my counsellor, only getting 8A+ I will be
able to secure any scholarship, something which is very important to me due to my parent's
incapability to pay for my tertiary education. The moment Ms. Asiah, my form teacher hands me
the result slip, my heart skips a beat. i am cold from feet to toe from the suspense. Then the
moment arrives! It is the most unforgettable time of my life. I manage to get 10A+ and my prayer
has been answered. Thank God for giving me the opportunity to succeed and make my parents
proud. That is the reward for my patience and hard work.

SAMPLE ESSAY 5
Holidays, a time everyone gets hyped up over, parents planning activities for
the family to spend quality time with and school children ( as well as teachers)
jumping for joy. Hello, waking up late, celebrating, going for tuition and best of all,
vacations! In my case, a holiday I would never forget is a fruitful one I experienced
five years ago, where my family I spent six days in the land of K-Pop and ' kimchi 'Korea.
Finally, after ages of waiting, our family arrived in beautiful Korea. Stepping out
of the plane, we could feel the chilly weather to our bones. Never experiencing that
kind of weather, my siblings and I were totally excited. Passing through immigration
and baggage claim, we were talking animatedly about our new surroundings. Since
we went with tour group, we knew we were in good hands. It was a bit past lunch
time when we were done checking in our hotel. No doubt, everybody's stomachs
were grumbling. Thank God after checking in, we were going to have our lunch and
do a bit of sightseeing.
At the restaurant, a delicious meal was already spread out for us. That was the
first time we all tried kimchi, a spicy and sour vegetable side dish. I did not think it
was horrible, but I preferred the fish kimchi much better. We all are using
chopsticks, so that was kind or awkward for me and my siblings, as we were not
skilled at using them yet. Being Malaysians, we were used to rice, so it was a good
thing that the Korean meal included rice and a few other side dishes, eaten from a
Bento box. It was weird though, the rice was stickier compared to the rice we eat at
home, mainly to make it easier to eat using chopsticks. There was also hot and
scrumptious miso soup together with the meal. Since my sister and my brother did
not like it much, I finished up theirs. I gulped the warm soup down my throat- a nice
contrast from the shivering weather outside.

Shopping in Korea was also different compared to Malaysia. Its malls were
packed with small shops or stall on every floor. Big boutiques were not seen as
much as the quaint kiosks. Nevertheless, I found shopping at their markets more
enjoyable, especially because you could haggle the price. Their specialties were
crystals, fabrics and outerwear. Apart from that, I also liked their wet markets,
mainly because they were very clean and they did not have that fishy smell. I
remembered a shocking incident when walking through the stalls of the wet market.
A large fish jumped out its aquarium and onto the floor. I stared at it and suddenly, I
saw a huge cutting knife slicing through the fish's neck! It was the owner of the
stall's doing. Then, the owner left the fish flapping around lifelessly without a head.
If it was up to me, there were so many things to write on my memorable trip to
Korean. Not only we got to spend quality time together as a family, but we also
learnt countless new things and even discovered hidden talents. My father always
said we should travel with an open mind and an open heart. This is when you get to
see your capability to adapt to changes. Just enjoy the simple things in life and be
thankful of what you have. So, do just that. Who knows you might discover a part of
yourself you never know existed?

SAMPLE ESSAY 6
In everyone's life, there are different experiences. One of them is the first
love. My first love was dazzling yet aching. My story began five years ago, when I
was only Form 1 in SMK Kelibat. I was inexperienced and naive, I thought that there
was no heart break in this world. Nurul was my classmate that I had known since
January 2011. At first, i did not really know her until one day I got her phone number
and texted her. I realise we had 'chemistry' because whenever we discussed some
topics, we always agreed with each other's ideas. We found a great combination
between us. Day by day we became closer, like twins. We became best friends, but
nothing more, nothing that I wanted. Her life was mine, her thoughts were mine,
she was my world and she did not even know.
She was the prettiest and the quietest girl in class. A special thing about her
was she had such perfect smile. When she smiled, her beautiful two-round eyes also
smiled and were able to make other people happy. Whenever she stared at me, it
made my heart skip a beat since I had never seen anything so breathtaking. She
was also kind and always made me feel glad every time she was with me.
Life was not a bed of roses. A month later, before we could enjoy this
friendship, our classmates started to suspect that we were too close. Very, very
close. They started to misunderstand and talk about us. She was received the worst

effect. She was feeling blue with this awkward situation. This misunderstanding
became critically serious. She made up her decision. Our relationship had to end,
especially when we were in school. She did not want people to gossip further about
us. I knew it was hard for her to do that, but all I could do was accepted her
decision. I accepted it because I wanted to keep her from this encumbering
problem.
Day by day, Nurul started to change. She did not smile like before. She
turned to be sad and went to pieces. Then I knew, i really had lost my old Nurul who
always made me smile and laugh. I pretended I was happy, but the fact, i was not.
However, whenever I caught her staring at me in class, it still gave me the goose
bumps. I tried to forget everything about her, but I just could not. As much as I
wanted her to vanish from my life, she would not go. She makes me upset, but she
also makes me laugh. She was my first love and as much as I want that part of my
story to end, deep inside I know that it isn't over. This also made me realised that I
have to forget everything about love for a while, focused on my studies and try to
make some new friends without falling for them. I had accepted this situation and
have done all of it. Let bygones be bygones, my effort pays off now. I was not long
in the sad mood all the time, i got a lot of friends and so I became a better person.

SAMPLE ESSAY 7

I have just spent my school holiday in Malacca with my lovely family. So, let's talk
about my trip in Malacca. On the first day of my trip in Malacca, we went to the
historical sites of Malacca, A Famosa. We bought some souvenirs there. We have
also taken3 photographs there. After visiting A Famosa, we went to visit the
crocodile farm. The way to the crocodile farm was very bumpy and it took us two
hours to reach there. But we chatted happily with each other so we don't feel tired
on the way to the crocodile farm. I saw many species of crocodiles there. It was
really appealing! It helped me to enhance my knowledge. We also watched the
crocodile-feeding sessions. I wish that you could watch the session with me because
it was really horrible to see many crocodiles getting their food together!
The next day, we went to Mahkota Parade, which is a colossal shopping
complex and very renowned in Malacca. There are so many things in Mahkota
Parade that are worth buying. The price is so inexpensive and the things are eye-

catching. Some things are creatively made. We also watched a movie at the
Cineplex, which is situated in Mahkota Parade. It has a very huge movie screen and
it was really comfortable to watch a movie there. After that, we had a rest for a
while in our hotel. Next, we went to A Famosa Water World which is located nearby
our hotel. We enjoyed water games and had a picnic there. It was so fun! We had a
whale of a time in Malacca.
We went back to Miri the next day. I really had a lot of sweet memories during
the trip. I regret about not taking photographs when I visited the crocodile farm. I
forgot about it. So, that's all about my school holiday.

I believe that kindness is one of the most important human characteristics. It is not
that hard to say a simple 'thank you', and yet it can really change the outlook of
someone else's day. My sister once told me, It takes more muscles to frown than to
smile. I have noticed that just being polite to the people around you can really
make the atmosphere around you more positive

My Memorable Day

It was May 20, 2013, I was going to school by Omni School Van. The school is
only 4 km from my house. The road we were going on was very busy. Suddenly the
rear wheel of the school van got puncture. A sudden left side sudden jerk threw out
one of my friend from the van. He was rolling on the road. The leg of the friend was
badly injured. And blood was gushing from the wound. The driver immediately
stopped the van. One good practice about our driver was that he always used to

drive slowly. It was because of that reason my friend was safe and has only outer
injury.
We immediately get out our van and picked the friend. Many people came
quickly to help us. We immediately brought him to the nearest hospital and did the
necessary treatment. The doctor examined the injury and pushed a few injections
and gave a few pain-killer tablets. The biggest mistake of this event was that the
van lock was not set properly at locked condition. We went to the home of injured
friend and told everything to his mother.
The mother started crying like a child. Which is very much obvious? The
mother feels much beyond the feeling for her child. My friend told to his mother that
mom I am OK. Please don't cry. It was very pathetic scene. We all children
complained to our van owner to change all the old tyres of the van. Our parents also
warned him to pay extra safety measures. This event has got high impact on my
mind. From that day I remained alert and cautious while going to school and also in
the school.

SAMPLE ESSAY 9

I love Pulau Langkawi. Its one of the most beautiful Island in the world, and
also a duty free Island. Ive been there for a few times. My family prefer to go by
ferry so that I can get a closer look at d beautiful Andaman Sea on the way there.
The water is so green and the atmosphere is so calm. Langkawi is renowned for its
beautiful scenery as well as 99 other small sounding islands. Every year Langkawi

gets visitors from all over the world. Pantai Cenang is one of the most popular spots
-and its the most happening place in the island too.
People love shopping in Langkawi. Because of its duty free status -you can
get plenty of things. For instance are chocolocates, clothing, household items which
includes corelle. It is much cheaper than the main lain. You can shop until you drop
there. So its a shopping heaven for people like me.
Moreover foods are relatively cheap too especially seafood. They are fresh
and there are plenty of sea food restaurants surrounding the island. At night my
family likes to do the barbeque at the seaside. The aroma from the seafood and the
breezy air form the beach will make your mouth watering.
You can take the cable car up to Gunung Macincang
, go snorkeling, fishing and hire boats to get to those small islands -they are so
amazing and beautiful ~ you wont regret. Transportations are cheap if you hire a car
-but the secret is dont go during long public holiday i.e festives seasopn like Chinese
New Year, Hari raya and school holidays and also end of the year -prices will
definately go up-both accomodations and hiring cars -yo definately have to go
deeper in your pocket.
