RASPBERRY PI

Introduction:
The idea behind a tiny and affordable computer for kids came in 2006, when Eben Upton,
Rob Mullins, Jack Lang and Alan Mycroft, based at the University of Cambridges Computer
Laboratory, became concerned about the year-on-year decline in the numbers and skills levels
of the A Level students applying to read Computer Science. The Raspberry Pi is a series of
credit card-sized, single-board computers developed in the United Kingdom by the Raspberry
Pi Foundation to promote the teaching of basic computer science in schools and developing
countries. Raspberry Pi board costs only $35 and does the work of a computer costing
hundreds of dollars. Though its purpose is not to replace computers, laptops etc. but to work
in supplement with them.

Literature Review:
Raspberry pi was Developed in 2006 by Raspberry Pi Foundation .On 3 June 2013 New Out
Of Box Software or NOOBS was introduced .On 4 April 2014 choice of six operating
systems is presented for installation on the card was developed .Raspberry Pi 3 was launched
in 29 February 2016.

Methodology:
There are many books available on raspberry pi .The books of well known authors are
referred to analyse on the topic related to raspberry pi .The topics like models of raspberry pi
and operating systems used in it were referred from Raspberry Pi user guide by Upton E. &
Halfacree G. Certain magzines were also referred for the application and future scope of
raspberry pi like The Magpi Raspberry Pi online magazine on thedigitallifestyle.com.

Future scope:
Raspberry pi being very cost effective can be deployed in large numbers in
underdeveloped and developing countries like Africa, India, China, Brazil etc. To
schools and colleges and to everyone who is interested in computers and
electronics .Raspberry pi can be used for teaching programming concepts ,teaching
hardware interfacing ,robotics for controlling motors, sensors, etc, media centre at
home .It can be used as a downloading machine replacing desktop computers. It
consumes very low power and also can be accessed remotely. Any television can be
converted to a smart Tv with internet capabilities with the pi. It can be used for
designing prototypes of DIY projects and certain embedded devices. It becomes very
cheap option for testing and evaluation purpose. Raspberry pi is usefull in creating
and handling small servers. Raspberry Pi is an innovative technology .The device can
certainly help anyone who really needs to learn electronics and computers. The sheer
number of users and fan base support the fact that the device can see an abundant
future ahead
