In this month, many traditional festivals are held in each area of Ibaraki. In CaReport No.3, we
introduced Mito Komon Festival. Hoko Jinja Onrei Taisai (Hoko Shrine Festival) taken place in
Hokota City, however, is one of the most historic(oldest) one among them, which lasts more
than 400 years. During the 3 days of Last Friday, Saturday and Sunday of August, 1 portable
shrine-called Mikoshi- and 8 festival cars -Dashi in Japanese- are paraded around the city.
*Hoko Shrine
This Shinto shrine was built on November, 1576, which
was damaged because of the power struggle but it
revived in 1672 and then was repaired in 1846. People
visit there to pray for abundant harvests, their and their
familys good health, traffic safety.
