Purpose
The purpose of an electrical asessment (preventive maintenance (EPM) and testing program)
should be to recognize deterioration and provide means for correcting them. With an EPM
and testing program, potential hazards that can cause failure of equipment or interruption of
electrical service can be discovered and corrected. Also, the EPM and testing program
program will minimize the hazards to life and equipment that can result from failure of
equipments.

5. Work Sequence
5.01. Insulation Resistance Test
Carefully check for cracked insulators or bushings and Current Transformer (if any) first.
Check all internal connections for tightness, and then Vacuum any dirt or debris from the
inside of the enclosure.
Short the CT secondary wiring at CT terminal. This test is conducted with voltages from 500
to 2500 V and provides information on the condition of NGR insulation. A clean, dry insulation
system has very low leakage as compared to a wet and contaminated insulation system.
This test does not check the high-voltage strength of the insulation system, but does provide
information whether the insulation system has high leakage resistance or not. This test is
commonly made before the high-voltage test to identify insulation contamination or faults.
After measurement is possible also.

resistance of the element is more than 15% off from the nameplate value, the resistors
should be replaced. Any open resistors should be replaced.
COMPLETE NAMEPLATE DATA WILL BE NECESSARY TO OBTAIN REPLACEMENT
PARTS.
