Chapter 3 System Structure

Software Architecture
The MIS software subsystem can be divided into three parts: application software (APP), support software (SUP), and the system
bootload software (BL).

APP provides interfaces for interacting with users.

The application software consists of the network management
part and the network protocol stack part.
The network management part includes the remote network
management system supporting SNMP, WEB network management system (WEB CIT) based on HTTP, and character-interface network management system (CIT-Telnet) based on remote login.
The network protocol stack part includes the network interface
protocol stack and the space radio interface protocol stack.

SUP interacts with the hardware on bottom layer and manages

and controls all hardware and services.
The support software includes Operating System (OS), Operating System Support (OSS), System Control (SC), and Board
Support Package (BSP). It provides a software support platform for the software system to accomplish the management
and control of the system, including multi-task operating system platform, database platform and hardware driver platform.

BL interacts with SUP through hardware interfaces. It powers

on and starts the system, and controls the load and startup of
SUP.

Signal Processing Flow

Figure 19 shows the signal processing flow of the system.

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION

17

ZXMW PR10 S400&S500 System Description

FIGURE 19 SIGNAL FLOW

The system receives the service signal through CU (TU is optional).

After baseband processing, modulation/demodulation and IF processing in IDU, the processed signal is sent to ODU for frequency
conversion and amplification. Then the signal is converted into RF
signal and sent outwards through the antenna.

In the transmitting direction: The service signal is sent to two

MUs: one active MU and one standby MU. In normal cases,
the active ODU transmits RF signal to the antenna while the
standby ODU does not transmit signal. When the active MU or
ODU becomes faulty, the active ODU stops sending signal and
the standby ODU starts sending signal.

In the receiving direction: The antenna sends RF signal to

the active ODU and the standby ODU respectively. In normal
cases, the system chooses to receive the service signal from
the active MU. When the active MU or ODU becomes faulty, the
system chooses to receive the service signal from the standby
MU.

1+1 SD
1+1 SD is a channel backup method. It uses two spatially-separated antennas to receive the same signal, and then select the
optimal one from the received two signals to minimize the impact
of attenuation on signal transmission.

the standby ODU starts sending signal.

In the receiving direction: The two antennas send the received

RF signal to the active ODU and the standby ODU respectively.
When the active channel becomes faulty or the bit error ratio
exceeds a certain threshold, the system chooses the service
signal output by the standby MU.

MMP Protection
MMP is short for Multi Modulation Protection. In this protection
mode, the active channel and the standby channel use different
modulation modes. For example, if the active channel adopts

22

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION

Chapter 4 Configuration

16QAM, then the standby channel adopts QPSK; contrarily, if the

active channel adopts QPSK, then the standby channel adopts
16QAM. When the channel quality is good, the system uses
16QAM channel to increase the bandwidth. When the channel
quality is bad, the system uses QPSK channel to guarantee basic
service transmission.
Such functions are part of ACM's functions. They implement
switchover between different modulation modes through channel
handover to guarantee normal service data transmission.
Figure 26 shows the solution in practical applications.
FIGURE 26 MMP SOLUTION

Figure 27 shows the process of switchover of MMP protection

modes.

23

ZXMW PR10 S400&S500 System Description

FIGURE 27 MMP PROTECTION MODE SWITCHOVER

The following describes the switchover process.

If the external environment condition is good, such as in a sunny
day, the equipment works on the active channel and the modulation mode is 16QAM. With the change in the weather, suppose it becomes rainy, link break might occur at the equipments.
When the link break is detected, equipments at the two ends of
the link negotiate and switch the working channel of each other
from 16QAM to QPSK. After the channel switchover succeeds, the
link becomes normal. When the external environment condition
becomes good, such as that the weather becomes sunny, if the
equipment detects the current receiving power is larger than the
configured backward handover threshold, then the working chan-

24

Chapter 4 Configuration

nel is switched from QPSK to 16QAM to increase the service bandwidth.

During the above switchover process, the service interruption usually lasts within 3 seconds. In MMP protection mode, the MU board
is plug-and-play, which can be replaced when the system is powered on, without affecting relevant configurations.
