Association of Women in Agriculture (AWA) student members, alumni UW Career Far
donors and industry partners gathered in celebration October 18th to pee
recognize a number of significant milestones the organization ety
accomplished since its founding in 1973. The evening culminated with the [Biases secuniotseal
most recent milestone - making the final payment to Home Savings Bank nee

Almost 100 guests gathered for the Milestone Reception, which took place
on the UW-Madison campus at the UW Institutes of Discovery. Barb Member Spotlight
Natzke and Kristin Olson, one of 10 mother-daughter AWA. alumni pairs
served as emcees for the event. The pragram opened with words from the
AWA Corporation President Sue Schultz and student chapter vice
president Bethany Dado.
“This reception was an opportunity to bring together students, alumni.
donors and other industry partners to recognize a number of significant
milestones accomplished with the hard work and countless contributions of
many individuals and organizations. AWWA is grateful for the large number of
donors. who have financially contributed towards our mortgage and the
suscess of the organization AWA has a storied past, a fantastic present
and an evolving, exciting future,” said Sue Schultz AWA Corporation
President
Heidi Zoerb, Assistant Dean, Extemal Relations, College of Agricultural a
and Life Sciences shared insights from the college and Sharon Brantmeier,
Co-chair of the house building committee reflected on the building of
process. Mary Ellen Karls joined the program taking everyone back in time
as she reminisced about the first nights in the new AWA House. Ray and [i / ieee
Fran Johnson, along with addtional Johnson family members, represented eS
all the vital donors that have graciously supported the house and AWA's
activities over its 40 year history.

On Friday, October 18th, 25 active and 19 potential members participated ina
sister-bonding scavenger hunt. Members were split into teams of 4-5 people and
traveled around campus to find items as well as take photos. and video of tasks
completed. Tasks included singing Varsity on Bascom Hill, fnding a yellow
crayon, and taking a picture with the badger statue at Camp Randall. The first
team to complete ail of the tasks was named the winner. Following the
completion of the Scavenger Hunt, participants celebrated with a late dinner at Ce aes)

AWA Members Assist with UW Career Fair
Not only did AWA members attend the
UW Career Fair seeking jobs. and
internships, AWA members also
assisted with the event as an AWA
Fundraiser.
AWA members assisted with set-up
prior to, wherever needed during, and
with clean up after the career fair. To
assist, AWA members escorted
company representatives to and from
their cars and booths, as well as
helping employers set-up and take
down their booths. Assisting with the
@ career fair, gave AWA members not
only the chance to eam money for
AWA, but also to network with
potential employers

Career Fair to raise money for AWA.
AWA Diggin’ It Fundraiser
‘The Association of Women in Agriculture (AWA) announces its Diggin’ It
Fundraiser for community outreach and educational development of its
members.
AWA members are using community service to raise awareness of the increasing
number of young professionals enthusiastic abaut Wisconsin agriculture.
Projects include wrapping presents, washing windows, sweeping floors, and
more.
Those interested may contact Fundraising Coordinator Savannah Waller at
srwaller@wisc.edu ta request help from AWA members for such projects. The
event will continue through December 8.
The price is $10 per studentmour, and all proceeds help fund AWA's professional
development for young women pursuing careers in agriculture and agricultural
related fields
Service Spotlight: Ronald McDonald House
AWA members spenta sunny afternoon raking leaves on Saturday, October 18th
at the Ronald McDonald House. While at the Ronald McDonald House,
members raked seventeen bags of leaves! The AWA members involved greatly
enjoyed spending a beautiful afternoon serving the greater community.
AWA Members Alexa Roscizewski, Sheila Tesarik, Sara Devitt
Michele Gutenberger, and Emily Calbaum raked leaves for the
Ronald McDonald House on October 18th.
Service Spotlight: Salvation Army

Natalie Endres spentthe evening serving
meals at the Salvation Army. The
members enjoyed a great evening of
sister bonding while giving back to the
community. Another group of AWA
members will serve meals atthe
Salvation Army again on Tuesday,
November 11 from 4:30-6:15 PM

Ag Chat Radio Show
Sydney Endres, AWA Public Relations Coordinator is heading up the second
year of Ag Chat Radio for the Association of Women in Agriculture. The show
covers various agricultural topics to raise awareness about agriculture in the
greater Madison area. The show airs from 8:00-9:00 AM. Mondays on the UW-
Madison student radio station, WSUM 91.7 or online at nttpvwsum oral . Be sure
