Purpose:
Every day before lunch time the children are invited to the
carpet for a story. Once the story is read the children are
asked to go to their tables for lunch which will then be
followed by nap time. I decided on the story There Was an
Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly for todays story time. The
book includes rhyming and is also accompanied by some
figurines to represent the story. The figurines will help keep
the attention of the children and get them all involved in the
story.

Story Telling- There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly

Implementation
1. I will gather all the children at the carpet once
they have finished cleaning up from free play
time.
2. I will say open them, shut them, open them, shut
them, give them a little clap, open them shut
them open them shut them put them in our lap
Limits: I will ask the children what they should be doing
during story time (ex. Sitting quietly with our listening
ears on)
3. I will then say I brought a special story to read to
you all today
4. I will tell the children that everyone will have a
turn to put something in the old ladys tummy but
it is important that you are quiet and listening to
the story for your turn
5. I will begin reading the story
6. As I go through each item I will invite one child at
a time to come and stick the item on the old lady
7. After reading the story I will ask the children to
give me a thumbs up if they liked the story or a
thumbs down if they did not like it
8. I will then tell the children it is time to have lunch
Transition: I will end story time by calling the children
one by one by their name and ask them to go find their
seat at the table and get ready for lunch
