Lesson 2

Wednesday 25/05/2016

Lesson Structure:
Start lesson with students seated out the front.
Warm up. Play video of shape warm up pp on the interactive whiteboard with students
participating in saying the names.
Introduction - Talk about 2D & 3D shapes, their characteristics and that shapes are
everywhere. Draw and write name of a shape on the board and ask individual students
to look for that particular shape in the classroom.
Activity - Sort shapes as a class using 2D shapes and hoops, ask students how they can
sort them, by what characteristic.
Play celebrity heads by drawing and writing name of a shape on the board, student sit
under board facing class, class give clues of what the shape is by answering yes or no
to questions of characteristics such as how many corners, sides, solid of flat.

classroom in their groups. Establish rules and consequences, students to have work
sheet glued in Math book and have a pencil ready and sharpened.
Activity - Students to walk around together looking for shapes in playground and court
yard. Recording what they find on worksheet.
Reward good behavior with a short play on playground.
If time could play a game outside.

Evaluation:
What worked well and why? PP on shapes & finding shapes in the pictures using
marker, the students loved this activity and found many shapes.
Didnt have time for all the signpost book work, reflections or videos.
Lowest level lost interest in some of the activities.
Did the lesson need any adjustments, changes made? Yes, L2 sorting didnt work &
L4 had to be changed to making shapes with sticks, masking tape & pipe cleaners as a
group with the higher 2 groups, Andrea did an activity with the lower groups.
