This vacancy is open to applicants of either sex. Preference will be given to


equally qualified women candidates.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall supervision of the Country Director/Deputy Country Director,
and under the direct supervision of the Head, Health and Nutrition Unit, the
Programme Officer (Food Technology) will be responsible for performing the
following functions:
To provide technical advice and guidance on food processing and
fortification.

To explore and identify suitable food products for development, testing


and commercial production.
To ensure implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
To link with the relevant private sector companies and work with WFP HQ
Units dealing with food technology to strengthen fortification capacity and
quality assurance in the production of fortified blended foods or fortified
cereals.
Specific:
Technical Support
Assist with the design and evaluation of the new products for infants,
children and adults with special needs such as HIV.
Propose different innovative ways to use the food assistance provided to
ICDS to ensure better utilisation and palatability.
Recommend appropriate size and cost effective packaging for the supply of
food.
Identify production capacity and augmentation requirements.
Analyse the macronutrient composition and micronutrient content in the
different formulas to confirm that it meets the recommended guidelines
Food commodity quality control and loss mitigation
Propose adequate measures to ensure food quality and safety (i.e. situation
analysis, sampling, food analysis, and lab results interpretation)
Formulate suggestions for mitigating issues around food safety and
documenting quality during transit and in warehouse.
Participate in the technical review of services provided by manufacturers
to WFP in connection with analysis and quality control of food.

Capacity Building/Training in food processing & quality controls

Train WFP and field level staff in food technology issues (for example,
fortification quality control).
Train processors in food quality control (including GMP, HACCP, etc.)
Train processors in fabrication, operating, maintenance and repair of
machinery and equipment.
Perform other related duties, as required and assigned.
Functional Competencies and Critical Success Factors:
The candidate should have good analytical skills, negotiating skills,
resourcefulness, takes initiative, has maturity of judgment, and tact. He/she has
the ability to work in a team, and to work effectively with people of different
national and cultural backgrounds. Ability to work with minimum of supervision.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education: Advanced university degree in Food Technology/ Nutritional sciences
or related disciplines, with knowledge in areas, such as, food technology,
microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, international guidelines, biology, supply chain,
etc. A specific knowledge of food fortification is highly desirable. Knowledge on
the special characteristics of complementary foods for children and other
vulnerable groups (HIV impacted, etc.)

Experience: At least three years of postgraduate professional experience in


product development, quality control and machinery management. Prior
experience of work in the Development sector is desirable.
Proven professional experience in the related field with ability to work
independently on technical matters with minimal supervision. Experience in
facilitation and moderating discussions and training.
Experience in the usage of MS office and other ERP packages and systems. Work
experience in Lotus Notes is desirable.

Language Requirements:
Proficiency in written and spoken English and working knowledge of Hindi is
desirable.
