LETS GET REAL PROJECT

U/S PERFORMING ARTS 16-17

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
How are acting techniques or methods created?
According to the methods creator, what skills are necessary to be
a good actor?
What cultural or historical forces lead to the creation of this
method?

OBJECTIVES
*To gain an overview of influential acting teachers, techniques
and methods.
*To identify the similarities and differences between the
techniques.
*To learn and apply proper acting technique vocabulary.
*To enhance research skills.
*To find for oneself an acting technique that works.
*To be able to teach a sample lesson.
*To apply technique to a scene from the genre of Realism.

PROJECT
1) YOU WILL BE IN PAIRS OR TRIOS STUDYING ONE

OF THE FOLLOWING ACTING

(Block 3 in trios, Block 4 in two pairs and one trio)

Uta Hagen
Sanford Meisner & The Meisner Technique
2) CONDUCT GUIDED RESEARCH

3) YOU MUST COVER THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION


WHEN RESEARCHING AND PRESENTING:
a)

A short biography of the acting teacher or method.


When and where did this person develop their

method? What or who were the influencing factors


on this person and their method?
b) What are the main ideas and techniques of this
method?
c) Give some examples of actors or directors that use
this method.
d) Why this method is important.
4) PRESENTATIONS WILL INCLUDE:
a) AN OVERVIEW OF THE ACTING METHOD
(answering the above questions)
b) TEACH A SAMPLE ACTING EXERCISE DEMONSTRATING THE
METHOD AND USING YOUR CLASSMATES
c) ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THE CLASS MAY HAVE
d) CREATE A HAND-OUT CONTAINING THE MAJOR
POINTS OF THE METHOD
5) SCENES:
a) After the presentation, we will begin work on 2-3
person scenes within the genre of Realism (Chekhov,
Ibsen, ONeill, Shaw, etc.).
b) Scene performances will be the week of December
5th.

PROJECT TIMELINE
Week of 10/24: Intro to project and research.
Week of 10/31: Planning presentations, exercises, and handouts.
Week of 11/7: Technique Presentations.
Week of 11/14: Scene rehearsals.
Week of 11/28: Scene rehearsals.
Week of 12/5: Scene performances.

FINAL PRESENTATIONS AND PERFORMANCES


1. PRESENTATIONS WILL BE THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 11th

AND SHOULD BE AROUND 30 MINUTES TOTAL


(15 minutes of presenting/questions and 15 minutes of
exercise)
2. SCENE PERFORMANCES WILL BE THE WEEK OF DECEMBER
5th
