Employees constitute the major part of the workforce of an organization.
Being the implementers
of the policy they play an integral role in successful realization of the objectives of an organization. This necessitates that the employees should be working at their best for producing an optimum output which in turn depends upon the motivation level of workforce, besides other factors of mechanical or technical input. And it is the responsibility of the managers in the organizational hierarchy, irrespective of the length of hierarchical chain, to ensure that the morale of the workforce remains high. There are a large number of factors that affect the motivation level of employees. These include inclusive or exclusive decision making, understanding the true spirit of aims and objects of organization by employees, extent of delegation of authority, clear demarcation of roles and tasks, security of job, welfare of employees, salary and reward. For instance, if the employees are included in decision making processes it builds the trust between the managers and the workforce which contributes towards boosting the morale of the force. On the other hand, if the employees do not understand the purpose and objectives of an organization then there will be lack of coherence between the employees objectives and the managers objectives which will in turn result in depreciation of morale of work force. In short, the motivation level of employees is not affected by increased or decreased organization hierarchy but the factors enumerated above and the quality of managers employed by the organization. As long as those factors are properly catered for in an organization the workforce will keep contributing towards the attainment of organization goals.
