INTRODUCTION
For the design of pavement, there are several software which is used by engineering all
over the world. Among this software a list of few is given below.

PAVEMENT DESIGN SOFTWARE

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

MnPAVE Flexible
MnPAVE Rigid
AASHTOWARE PAVEMENT
PerRoad 3.5
CIRCLY 6.0
It is a powerful, user-friendly, windows based package for mechanistic pavement
design and analysis. Since 1987, it has been part of the Austroads Pavement
Design Guide, the standard for road design in Australia and new Zealand. Is uses a
rigorous flexible pavement design approach and uses state of art pavement
material properties and performance models. It calculates the cumulative
damage induced by the traffic spectrum. It has several advantages. Those are
Pavement and loading database save re-keying information. We can
define our material properties and loading.
It generates graphs that show the damage factor across the
pavement. It can also generate graphs of any component of
displacement strain or stress in two dimensional or three
dimensional forms.
It has automatic thickness design capability so optimum thickness
of a given layer in a fraction of a second can be determined on a PC.

It is a widely used software for more than two decades proving it worth in thousands
of design application.

6. PaveXpress
PaveXpress, a scoping tool to help you create simplified pavement designs while
taking into account key engineering inputs. It is a free, web-based pavement
design tool based on AASHTO 93/98 that creates technically sound pavement
structural designs for both flexible and rigid pavements. The web-based software
is available for use by local agencies, engineers, architects, consultants, and
engineering students who need a reliable way to quickly determine the necessary
pavement thickness for a given section of roadway or project, even when faced
with little information about the roadway section.
7. StreetPave 12
It is the latest in jointed plain concrete pavement thickness design. It has several
features such as jointed plain concrete overlay designs for all six types (bonded
on asphalt, un-bonded on asphalt, bonded on concrete, un-bonded on concrete,
bonded on composite, un-bonded on composite). This software utilizes
engineering analysis to produce optimized designs for city, municipal, country
and state roadways. For existing concrete pavements and overlays, StreetPave 12
may be used to estimate service life and or failure criteria. It also offers an
asphalt cross section design process (based on the Asphalt Institute method) to
create an equivalent to asphalt design for the load carrying capacity requirement.
It also has a life cycle cost analysis module which allows us to perform a detailed
cost/benefit analysis and makes informed decision on pavement design project.
With one pavement design tool, we can design equivalent concrete and asphalt
sections and evaluate the best possible solution(s) for our pavement needs.

How to use this software:

After the installation of the software we have to open the software from the
destined folder. Here we can provide the project name, route, location,
owner/Agency name, design engineer name. At the bottom of the page there is a
box where written software use that means for which purpose we want to use
the software. There are 4 options for trial software.
The options are
/Design a new jointed plain concrete pavement
Design a jointed plain concrete overlay
Analyze an existing jointed plain concrete pavement or overlay
Conduct a life cycle cost analysis (LCCA).
From these four options we have to choose one. For my example I choose Design a new
jointed plain concrete pavement. After selecting these there are several tabs on the top
of the home page. The home screen after choosing /Design a new jointed plain
concrete pavement There we can see that four new tabs have come. They are Traffic,
Design Details, New Pavement Design. Another two options also come at the software
use toolbox. They are Determine a comparative new asphalt pavement thickness and
Conduct a life cycle cost analysis.
Now pressing next we go to the traffic tab. We have to select Traffic category by clicking
radio button, Trucks per day, Traffic growth rate, Design life, Directional Distribution and
Design lane Distribution. Than we have to select next.
Here we will give design details. Here we will give materials details like concrete and
asphalt material details and sub grade details and also terminal serviceability and
reliability. Then we will go to the next tab and there if we run design than we will get the
result.
The design is complete. From here we can compare concrete and asphalt pavement
design. From sensitivity analysis toolbox we can generate several graphs. The graphs are
given in the following pages:

We can use this software for other purpose also. So from these we can see that this is
very useful software for pavement design engineer.
