Scraps of the same yarn in a contrasting
color for stripes (if desired)
US15 (10.0 mm) 16 circular needle
(round version)
Set of 4 US15 (10.0 mm) DPNs (round
version)
US15 (10.0 mm) straight needles (flat
version)
Stitch marker
Tapestry needle
Sizes: Preschooler (3 - 4 years)
CO 44 sts with MC
Round 1: K2, P2 to end of round.
Repeat 5 times.
Continuing to work in MC, work in st st for 6
rows
Switch to CC and work 2 rows st st
Work MC for 2 rows in st st
Work CC for 2 rows in st st
Work MC for 6 more rows in st st
To shape crown, switch to DPNs when needed
and work entire decrease portion with MC.
Rnd 1: K2, K2tog to end of round.
Rnd 2: Purl
Rnd 3: K1, K2tog to end of round
Rnd 4: Purl
Rnd 5: K2tog to end of round
Finishing: Using tapestry needle, break yarn,
leaving a long tail. Thread through remaining
stitches and pull tightly. Seam up back and
weave in ends. Add large pom pom if desired.

Work in stocking stitch (i.e. knit every round)
for four rounds, then decrease as follows:
Decrease
Rnd 1: *k9 k2tog* to end of round.
Rnd 2: knit.
Rnd 3: *k8 k2tog* to end of round.
Rnd 4: knit.
Rnd 5: *k7 k2tog* to end of round.
Rnd 6: knit.
Rnd 7: *k6 k2tog* to end of round.
Rnd 8: knit.
Rnd 9: *k5 k2tog* to end of round.
Rnd 10: *k4 k2tog* to end of round.
Rnd 11: *k3 k2tog* to end of round.
Rnd 12: *k2 k2tog* to end of round.
Rnd 13: *k1 k2tog* to end of round.
Rnd 14: *k2tog* to end of round.
You should have 8 stitches left. Cut the yarn,
leaving a 6 tail.
Thread the long tail onto a needle, and slip the
8 remaining stitches onto the thread.
Pull tight and sew over the hole at the top a few
times. Weave in ends.
