Introduction
Review of the past lesson

A local area network (LAN) is a computer network that interconnects

computers within
a limited area such as a residence, school,
laboratory, university campus or office
building and has its
network equipment and interconnects locally managed.
Typically, a LAN encompasses computers and peripherals connected to
a server within a
distinct geographic area such as an office or a
commercial establishment. Computers
and other mobile devices
use a LAN connection to share resources such as a printer or
network storage.

VI.

Lesson
Motivation

Show pictures that illustrate the uses of LAN connection, ask the
student if they want to
know how it works.
Raised Up Question
Ask 3 students on what they want to know or to learn about the topic
that will be answered after the discussion.
Lesson Proper
Define what is LAN Cabling and straight-through connection. Introduce
the different materials and tools used in LAN cabling. Perform in class the
steps in cabling
constructions. Identify the colour coding of wires used in
straight through LAN cable.
Create a simple LAN Cabling network using
the straight-through cable. Discuss some
safety precautions in straightthrough cable construction and creating LAN networks.
VII.

Application
Student will create a T568B or straight-through LAN cable by following
the steps in
crimping a LAN Cable for 15 minutes (guided activity).

VIII.

Generalization
LAN Cabling is the process of creating a LAN Cable which is used in
interconnecting computers. There are two types of LAN Cable the Cross
Over and Straight Through. Straight Through is used to connect many
computers with the use of HUB. There
are several tools and materials
used in LAN Cabling like UTP Cable, Wire Stripper,
Crimping tool and
the LAN tester.

IX.

Evaluation
Student will again create a T568B or straight- through cable by follow
the steps in
crimping a LAN Cable for 15 minutes will minimal
supervision with the instructor.
Instructor will observe the student if it
follows the steps properly and if he/she apply the
safety precautions
on LAN cabling.
