Notes:
The CPMmodulescontainthreeslotsforremovablecompactflashcards.ThedrivesarenamedCompactFlashSlot#1(cf1),
CompactFlashSlot#2(cf2),andCompactFlashSlot#3(cf3).Configurationsandexecutableimagescanbestoredonflash
cardsoranFTPfilelocation.TherearesixCompactFlashslotsonthe7750SRc12,threeforCFMAandthreeforCFMB.
TheflashcardcontainingthebootstrapandbootoptionfilesmustbeinstalledinCompactFlashSlot

Startinga7750SRSeriesrouterbeginswithhardwareinitialization(aresetorpowercycle).Bydefault,thesystemsearches
CompactFlashSlot#3(cf3)fortheboot.ldrfile(alsoknownasthebootstrapfile).Theboot.ldrfileistheimagethatreads
andexecutesthesysteminitializationcommandsconfiguredinthebootoptionfile(BOF).Thedefaultvaluetoinitiallysearch
fortheboot.ldrfileoncf3cannotbemodified.

ConfigurationandImageLoading
Whenthesystemexecutestheboot.ldrfile,theinitializationparametersfromtheBOFareprocessed.Threelocationscanbe
configuredforthesystemtosearchforthefilesthatcontainstheruntimeimage.Thelocationscanbelocalorremote.The
firstlocationsearchedistheprimaryimagelocation.Ifnotfound,thesecondaryimagelocationissearched,andlastly,the
tertiaryimagelocationissearched.
IftheBOFcannotbefoundorloaded,thenthesystementersaconsolemessagedialogsessionpromptingtheusertoenter
alternatefilelocationsandfilenames.
Theboot.ldrcanbeinterruptedduringthebootsequencebypressinganykeyontheCPMconsoleport.Theoperatormust
thentypesrosandpressENTERwithin30secondsortheboot.ldrwillcontinuetryingtobootthesystem.Thiskeysequence
ensuresthatnoiseormisconfigurationdoesnotinadvertentlyinterruptthebootsequence.Iftheoperatortypessrosand
pressesENTERwithin30seconds,theyarebroughttoaconsolemessagedialogsessionpromptingtheusertoenterfile
locationsandotherbootinformation.
Whentheruntimeimageissuccessfullyloaded,controlispassedfromthebootstraploadertotheimage.Theruntimeimage
attemptstolocatetheconfigurationfileasconfiguredintheBOF.Liketheruntimeimage,threelocationscanbeconfiguredfor
thesystemtosearchfortheconfigurationfile.Thelocationscanbelocalorremote.Thefirstlocationsearchedistheprimary
configurationlocation.Ifnotfound,thesecondaryconfigurationlocationissearched,andlastly,thetertiaryconfiguration
locationissearched.Theconfigurationfileincludechassis,IOM,MDA,andportconfigurations,aswellassystem,routing,and
serviceconfigurations.

Persistence
Optionally,theBOFpersistparametercanspecifywhetherthesystemshouldpreservesystemindexeswhenasave
commandisexecuted.Duringasubsequentboot,theindexfileisreadalongwiththeconfigurationfile.Asaresult,anumber
ofsystemindexesarepreservedbetweenreboots,includingtheinterfaceindex,LSPIDs,pathIDs,etcIfpersistenceisnot
requiredandtheconfigurationfileissuccessfullyprocessed,thenthesystembecomesoperational.Ifpersistisrequired,then
amatchingx.ndxfilemustbelocatedandsuccessfullyprocessedbeforethesystemcanbecomeoperational.Matchingfiles
(configurationandindexfiles)musthavethesamefilenameprefixsuchastest123.cfgandtest123.ndxandarecreatedat
thesametimewhenasavecommandisexecuted.NotethatthepersistenceoptionmustbeenabledtodeploytheNetwork
ManagementSystem(NMS).Thedefaultisoff.
Traps,logs,andconsolemessagesaregeneratedifproblemsoccurandSNMPshutsdownforallSNMPgetsandsets,
however,trapsareissued.

LawfulIntercept
LawfulIntercept(LI)describesaprocesstointercepttelecommunicationsbywhichlawenforcementauthoritiescanun
obtrusivelymonitorvoiceanddatacommunicationstocombatcrimeandterrorismwithhighersecuritystandardsoflawful
interceptcapabilitiesinaccordancewithlocallawandafterfollowingdueprocessandreceivingproperauthorizationfrom
competentauthorities.Theinterceptioncapabilitiesaresoughtbyvarioustelecommunicationsproviders.
Aslawfulinterceptionissubjecttonationalregulation,requirementsvaryfromonecountrytoanother.AlcatelLucents
implementationsatisfiesmostnationalstandardsrequirements.LIisconfigurableforallservicetypes.
