ECOSMART VCB L

VACUUM TECHNOLOGY
Long service life and high reliability are demanded to be able to distribute and use electric energy in a
safe and secure way.
The vacuum interrupters take advantages of vacuum thanks to its exceptional dielectric characteristics
and capabilities as an interrupting medium.
The vacuum interrupters has two main contacts, one fixed and one mobile. Both contacts are housed
inside a sealed enclosure (vacuum bottle) that enable a high vacuum level to provide the insulating
distance between the contacts.
The high dielectric property of the vacuum allow the contact distance reduction.
The above conditions plus the low opening speed demanded permit the use of an operating mechanism
with low control energy.
To ensure the vacuum conditions and so the safe operations, the enclosure must be perfectly sealed.
The current interruption is initiated by the separation of the contacts. This separation causes an electrical
arc made up of a molten metal bridge (vaporization of the contact material).
The contact material vaporization quickly condense and the arc disappear.
The vacuum level is restored as well as the contacts insulating distance and the current interruption is
completed.

ECOSMART VCB L

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The vacuum circuit breaker type ECOSMART VCB L is
manufactured adopting the technique of the separate poles.
The poles are manufactured using polyester material that
offer lightness and robustness at the same time.
Inside each pole is placed the vacuum interrupter that, in
this way, it is protected against pollution, humidity, shocks,
condensation etc.
The operating mechanism is mechanical with springs type
with opening and closing operations independents from the
operator.

The operating mechanism can be operated manually or from
remote through a gear motor, opening and closing coil.
The operating mechanism closing spring can be charged through the spring charging lever or by the gear
motor (supplied upon request).
Opening and closing operations are carried out by the available push buttons or via the opening and
closing coils actuated from remote.
The key lock, available with key free with circuit breaker in open position, is used to realize the interlock
with the line switch disconnector.
The vacuum circuit breaker ECOSMART VCB L is suitable to house current sensors (assembled on the
poles) and self-powered protection relay (assembled onboard of the operating mechanism).
The vacuum circuit breaker lies on a support frame equipped with wheels to allow its removal from the
panel.
The vacuum circuit breaker ECOSMART VCB L is suitable for the following applications:

OPERATING MECHANISM
The vacuum circuit breaker is equipped with a springs operating mechanism (closing spring and opening
spring). It can be operated both manually and electrically.
The operating mechanism closing spring can be charged through the spring charging lever or by the gear
motor (supplied upon request).
Opening and closing operations are carried out by the available push buttons or via opening and closing
coils actuated from remote.
The key lock, available with key free with circuit breaker in open position, is used to realize the interlock
with the line switch disconnector.
The operating mechanism gives to the circuit breaker opening and closing cycles independent from the
operator. It consists of:

Closing spring to store the energy for closing operation.

Opening spring to store the energy for opening operation.
Manual lever for closing spring charging.
Mechanical push buttons.
Operations counter.
Spring status signal.
Accessories support plate where it is possible to have:
- Opening circuit
- Closing circuit
- Opening circuit: by opening coil, minimum voltage coil,
low energy coil
- Closing circuit: by closing coil, motor gear, electronic
control card with antipumping device.

The basic circuit breaker is equipped with opening coil auxiliary contacts (6no+6nc) and operations
counter.
All the other accessories can be supplied upon customer request.
The low energy coil (mitop) has to be used only with the self-powered protection relay.

breaker open):
Grasp the charging lever.
Charge the closing springs until the end of the stroke.
Push the closing push buttons.
The circuit breaker get closed and the opening spring is
charged automatically.
Push the opening push buttons.
The circuit breaker get open with the closing and opening
springs discharged.

The vacuum circuit breaker can be operated both locally and from remote as follow:

Remote operations (start position: circuit

breaker open):
The closing spring are charged via the gear motor.
Actuate the closing coil.
The circuit breaker get closed and the opening spring is
charged automatically.
The closing spring is charged by the motor immediately
after the circuit breaker closing.
Actuate the opening coil.
The circuit breaker get open with the closing spring charged
and ready for a new closing operation.

All these components enable a high customization level to satisfy the customers demand and the most
various installation exigencies.
Some of the available accessories are always supplied as standard application. Some others have to be
